Some see the Dodge Journey as the perfect mix of convenience and affordability. Then there’s the other side of the equation, where owning one has been a living nightmare. Regardless, if you do have an issue that ends up being a recall, at least they’re handled free of charge.

Four of these recalls impact multiple model years. Owners of these affected vehicles should note the recommended steps to take so the issue can be repaired by a qualified professional. Recall information is also available for the remaining 18 vehicles.

Power Steering Return Hose May Rupture

NHTSA Recall ID: 16V273000

Chrysler has issued a recall for certain model year 2009-2016 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured July 31, 2007, to Nov. 12, 2016, over a concern that loss of power steering assist could necessitate extra steering effort, especially at lower speeds.

This could increase the risk of crashing. The problem occurs after exposure to cold temperatures, which can cause the power steering return hose to rupture when the engine is started.

Chrysler has contacted owners and asked them to take their vehicles to a dealership for repair. Qualified professionals will replace the power steering return hoses, steel tubes, and power steering oil cooler at no charge. This recall began on May 24, 2016.

Cruise Control Cannot Be Cancelled

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V332000

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014-2018 Dodge Journey vehicles.

The concern is that a defect could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging.

Car Cruise Control Button

If there is a short circuit in the vehicle’s wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise, either by pressing the brake pedal or shutting off the cruise switch manually. This could result in the vehicle maintaining or even accelerating, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall began June 4, 2018.

Chrysler has contacted owners and asked that they take their vehicles to a dealership for service.

The dealer will inspect the software, then perform a software update on the engine or powertrain control module at no charge. Owners are advised not to use cruise control until the problem is remedied.

Water May Enter the ABS Module

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V675000

Chrysler is recalling certain 2012-2015 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured from April 21, 2012, through April 14, 2015.

Water could potentially enter the wiring harness for the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module and leak into the module, disabling the ABS and possibly the electronic stability control (EBC) system. If either or both are disabled, vehicle stability could be compromised and increase crash risk.

Chrysler has contacted owners. Dealers will seal the ABS wiring harness, replace the ABS module and repair the headlamp and dash wiring harness as necessary. These repairs will be completed at no charge.

Engine Cover May Contact Exhaust Manifold

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V431000

A problem with the engine cover caused Chrysler to recall certain 2011-2015 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured July 19, 2010, to May 26, 2015, and equipped with 2.4L engines.

In vehicles affected, the engine cover could detach from the engine and come in contact with the exhaust manifold. This could increase the risk of vehicle fire.

Chrysler has notified affected vehicle owners. Dealers will install an improved mounting system for the engine cover at no charge. This recall began on Oct. 15, 2015.

Lift gate Wire harness breaks!
If you have a problem with your lift gate lights not working and/or your rear wiper doesn’t work it’s more than likely due to broken wires in the wire harness that goes from the vehicle to the lift gate. You won’t be able to see the broken wires unless you pull back the rubber tubing. I spent a lot of time banging my head against the wall trying to figure out the problem. I checked the fuse and then bought and replaced the rear wiper motor and it still didn’t work. The only fix is to solder the broken wires (50% of the wires were broken or had copper showing ) or butt splice them.

Mrs.
2009 Chrysler Journey is a piece of junk. No recalls by thousands of dollars in repairs that never actually fix the problems. This car should have many recalls but none issued. They just keep on charging you to fix everything. A pack of criminals run this company.

2012 Dodge Journey SXT manufactured in Feb!!!
So because the vehicle was made in February and not April, it is not covered under the NATIONAL RECALL. Now it is impossible to get my vehicle the ABS part it needs to pass state inspection. Never buying another dodge ever again!!
