The Honda Passport is a popular SUV choice for those looking for a spacious yet versatile option. With a sleek design and generous standard equipment, there’s bound to be a pre-owned Honda Passport model out there that’s right for you.

How many recalls have been issued on the Honda Passport over the years?

Just a handful, with a couple of its most notable recalls involving things like:

  • Corroded suspension brackets
  • Incorrect instrument panel software

Whether you drive an earlier Passport model or a newer model, you’ll want to be aware of these open safety recalls. From there, you can follow our steps to find out whether your vehicle is part of any of the recalls we’ve described here.

1998‒2002 Honda Passport: Corroded Suspension Brackets

NHTSA Recall ID: 10V436000

More than 149,000 vehicles were recalled in September of 2010, including some 1998 through 2002 Honda Passport models. With this recall, it was found that the forward mounting bracket on the rear suspension may be prone to rust and corrosion over time—especially in areas where road salt is used during the winter months.

Excessive corrosion may lead to the suspension’s lower link brackets completely detaching from the vehicle’s frame, which could affect handling and increase the risk of a crash.

On all recalled vehicles, dealers will inspect the lower link bracket of the suspension for signs of rust or corrosion. If none is found, an anti-corrosive compound will be applied to protect the link from damage. In situations where corrosion has already occurred, a reinforcement bracket will be installed to resolve the issue.

2019 Honda Passport: Incorrect Instrument Panel Software

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V439000

On up to 607,786 Honda vehicles (including the 2019 Passport), a recall was issued in 2020 after it was discovered that the instrument panel control module software may have a critical error.

This error may prevent the instrument panel from displaying important information, including the vehicle’s speedometer, oil pressure, and gear selector position. In some cases, the error may also interfere with the operation of the vehicle’s rearview camera.

Vehicles affected by this recall not only fail to comply with federal safety standards, but it also may create unsafe driving conditions if the instrument panel does not display important information while the vehicle is in motion.

If your 2019 Passport is part of this recall, the instrument panel software will be reprogrammed at no charge to resolve the issue. This can be done at any licensed Honda dealer.

What Should You Do if Your Honda Passport is Recalled?

Is your Honda Passport part of any of these safety recalls? You can find out instantly by going to the NHTSA recall page and entering your 17-digit VIN where prompted. Your VIN is located on your vehicle’s dashboard, as well as in your inner door pocket and on your insurance cards.

If you have any open recalls, don’t fret. Contact Honda’s customer service hotline at 1-800-999-1009 for instructions on how to schedule your repair at a licensed service center. And remember; you should never have to pay out-of-pocket for recall repairs.
