The fact that it's a long lasting part and doesn't require any maintenance is likely why the change was made. It can last for well over 100,000 miles in good conditions. These conditions just demand that You are always following up with Your regular oil changes because the chain depends on proper oil pressures to stay lubricated and continue working. If You neglect Your oil then the chain is more vulnerable to damage and it's not a cheap part to have replaced. -
