2010 Ford F-150 Review: An Affordable Long-Lasting Truck

Alex Showalter
Feb 9, 2022

A good year for the Ford F-150 with the ability to last over 300,000 miles despite having more complaints than earlier years. Prices are more affordable than other half-ton trucks ranging from $11,606 to $26,643.

Base engine is weak, a lot of plastic components in the cabin, and ownership costs are high.

2010 Ford F-150: Quick Overview

  • The 2010 Ford F-150 reliability is good, but there are some transmission problems as it ages. There are more problems with the 2010 through 2015 models, the best years are 2009 and earlier, with fewer complaints.
  • Four engine choices are available and all are V8s. The entry-level motor has average power, and the larger engines can tow an impressive 11,300 pounds.
  • A combined rating of 17 MPG ties the 2010 F-150 for 3rd place, average for its class.
  • Safety ratings are great for a truck, getting a perfect 5-star rating in government crash tests.
  • Consumer Reports found the F-150 was improved for 2010 with a quieter cabin, improved braking, and a class-average owner satisfaction rating.
  • Earning our recommendation, the 2010 F-150 is ranked 9th in its class of 15 full size trucks by owners. Capable engines and a comfortable cabin make it an easy choice for us.

Plenty of room and very reliable.
I love the extra room in the cab. It feels like an SUV with the bed of a pickup truck. There is enough room in the back of the cab, when the seats are folded up, to sleep comfortably without being squished. It has always been reliable. It is a little slow getting on the freeway but is a smooth and comfortable ride.

I love my Ford F-150. I'm a ford kinda guy!!!
I love my truck, I have not had any issues with it. I wish the fuel mileage was better, but it has plenty of power & comfort for what I do.

I never had a better truck.
I have never had any problems and do not anticipate any problems in the near future. I use it everyday for my landscaping and lawn design business and it serves every possible. Many of my friends have borrowed it over the last 8 years for different jobs,

This is why everyone who wants a work truck should buy an f150.
Most reliable truck I have owned. I load it up. With 1 metric ton of soil, or rocks per day for work- and it hauls it without an issue. My truck has 270,000 miles and besides the routine maintenance I have only had to replace a handful of parts (rack and pinion, and some pulleys).

There's a reason the Ford F-150 trucks have been the best-selling trucks for more than 30 straight years. They are reliable, dependable, and rugged, as well as stylish and functional.
I love everything about my Ford F-150. From the style, to the dependability, to the versatility, this vehicle has provided me with years of reliability. It rides like a luxury vehicle, but is tough as a tank.

Smooth comfortable ride that's attractive fun to drive in all types of weather.
Really enjoy my f150 Ford pick-up, super smooth ride, dependable performance, fairly good gas mileage, love the looks and height. Had very few problems beyond normal wear and tear, would highly suggest this truck. Love the interior and roomy size of vehicle.

Great vehicle with power and sustainability.
Reliable truck that gets above average fuel economy. It has enough power for towing and storage for a family of 4. The entertainment system gives you everything you would need to do business away from home. I would not chose another vehicle on the road.

The best of times with Ford
The 2010 F150 is a very good truck especially with the 3 valve 4.6. I have 140,000 miles and it still runs and drives great and I drove it across the country numerous times. The Super Crew is very roomy everyone always says how much room is in the back seat.

Rolling junk looking for a place to land.
Engine blew up. Transmission makes noise. There is no filter in the cab. Needs tires every year. 4 wheel clutches have airlines that leak air and ruin the clutches. The posi-traction in the rear end keeps locking up and ruining those clutches.

Rust bucket f150, the real story.
My f150 has turned out to be a rust bucket. The rocker panels on both sides have rusted out. The left rear quarter panel above the wheel well is rusting out, and even have rust coming in the actual bed of the truck. The motor and transmission have both been tight, no real problems ever mechanically but the truck itself is literally falling apart.

No good after 100,000 miles
I have a ticking noise in my engine and my truck stalls at a complete stop. I had certified GM mechanics inspect this vehicle and they all came to the same conclusion. "That Ford Motors refused to deal with this oil motor problem in tge engine, even thou they know that the problem exist only after a 100,000 miles. As I was told "its not thier problem because the vehicle reached its warranty time limit". Ford Motors, just dont care. Now I have to buy a motor which cost over $3700.00 not including installation. Dont buy a Ford F150 without the extended warranty, you will be sorry if you dont!

I love this truck...it worked hard, and took us everywhere. It kills me to give it 2 stars. My f150 has been maintained at the dealership since I bought it 4 years ago. We put 100,000 miles on it, it now has 130,000. It was running rough...it blew two cylinders. Now we're looking at a new engine.

Nice looking truck, but built really poorly
My ford f150 is comfortable and very safe. I almost gave it the lowest rating but because of the aforementioned reasons I gave it a 2. I bought this vehicle brand new off the lot and within 2 years it started raining inside as the back window gaskets are obviously bad and a year after that the rocker panels started rusting out and need to be fully replaced. The 4 wheel drive boots had to be replaced twice as of today and all parts are extremely expensive to buy and time consuming for a mechanic to replace making it even more expensive to fix. I would not recommend this vehicle

What Problems Does the 2010 Ford F-150 Have?

There are an average number of complaints found in the Ford F-150 compared to the Ram and Sierra 1500. The 2010 model has nearly three times the number of complaints than the older, more reliable 2009 F-150.

Shattering rear windows are the most common complaint from owners, with problems happening around 58,000 miles. The window breaks in cold conditions when owners turn on the rear defroster. Unfortunately, the only solution is replacing the window, costing about $800.

Transmission problems are frequently found with inconsistent shifting from second to first at around 15,000 miles. There are several sources for the problem including the driveshaft, transmission wiring harness, and complete transmission failures. Repair costs range from $150 to $4,000, depending on the source of the problem.

Engines stalling while driving is another complaint from owners, happening around 67,000 miles. Usually the problem is caused by a bad evaporative canister purge valve, and a replacement costs about $350.

There is only 1 recall on the 2010 Ford F-150, which is far less than other trucks from the same year. The recall covers the interior door handle spring, which can cause the door to open unexpectedly.

How Much is the 2010 Ford F-150 Worth?

Blue book prices range from $11,606 to $26,643, and are lower than other full size trucks including the Silverado and Ram 1500 series. When new, the price range was $22,060 to $46,740. Depreciation on large trucks is slower than other vehicles, only losing about 5% of their current value per year.

How Long Will the 2010 Ford F-150 Last?

Regular service and maintenance help the 2010 Ford F-150 last up to 300,000 miles, which is longer than most of the competitors including the Silverado 1500 series and Titan. Although the truck is long lasting, Repair Pal estimates the maintenance costs to be about $100 more expensive than rivals, at $749 per year.

As the 2010 F-150 ages and passes 125,000 miles, there are some components which may need to be replaced. These include throttle bodies costing about $400, rack and pinions for $1,500, and air conditioning control modules that cost $500.

It is reliable and there has not been any major issues beyond regular maintenance and care. It drives well in adverse weather conditions.

accountCircle Timmy B

Yes, it is very reliable. My truck does not have any problems whatsoever. I love my truck, you should get one.

accountCircle Thomas O

I have not experienced any problems. It has been very reliable. Routine maintenance keeps it running efficiently.

accountCircle Atish G

It is very reliable. I have not had any major issues other than normal wear and tear. Gas mileage could be better. But it gets ok mileage for the size of the truck. On highway mileage is great.

accountCircle Danae T

Very reliable. No reportable issues other than normal maintenance on a vehicle. Good on gas generally.

accountCircle Raymond D

Yes it is and I have had very few problems with it. I feel very safe driving it. I maintain the regular maintenance on it and it runs very smooth.

accountCircle Shea H

It is very reliable. I drove it three hours every weekend for a year and had no issues. Just the usual stuff like a flat tire here and there. Nothing that would make me want to get another vehicle.

accountCircle Earl H

The motor transmission and rest of the driveline at that rock solid since day one I cannot complain about the reliability of this truck I would drive it across country today.

What Technology & Safety Features Are Included?

What Engine Options are Available?

Performance in the 2010 F-150 is better than its rivals, especially with the larger V8 engines. The most powerful 6.2L V8 engine takes the truck from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 7.2 seconds, and the 5.4L V8 can tow a class-leading 11,300 pounds.

  • The base engine is weak for the class with a 4.6L V8 producing 248 horsepower and 293 lb.-ft. of torque.
  • A step up is a high-output 4.6L V8, which makes 292 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque.
  • The most powerful motor on all models aside from the Raptor is the 5.4L V8, which has 320 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque.
  • Exclusive to the Raptor is the F-150’s most powerful engine, the 6.2L V8, which produces 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque.

How Big is the F-150?

The 2010 Ford F-150 is a large truck similar in size to the Ram 1500 series and Sierra 1500, which may have trouble fitting into some residential garages.

Three cabin configurations are available including a 2-door regular cab, 4-door SuperCab, and larger 4-door SuperCrew. Passenger space is excellent in the back of the SuperCrew, but is a bit more cramped in the SuperCab.

Three bed lengths are also available including a 5-foot-6-inch short bed, 6-foot-6-inch regular bed, and 8-foot long bed.

How Does the 2010 Ford F-150 Compare to Other Trucks?

Ranking 9th out of 15 full size trucks, based on owner reviews, the 2010 F-150 is in the lower half of the class.

The highest-rated half-ton truck from 2010 is the more expensive Toyota Tundra. The Tundra has more power, but the F-150 has a higher towing capacity. Overall, both are good trucks and the decision comes down to personal preference.

Another competitor is the Ram 1500, which is also more costly. The Ram has a more luxurious interior and the F-150 offers better long-term reliability. Test driving both is worth the time to see which truck you prefer.

I tow a 7800lbs. Fifth wheel with my truck (4.6l triton) and the only problem I had was an upper control arm, lower ball joint both on the passenger side and a small leak in the transmission pan which was fixed. Runs great with 128k. I love my truck!

The vehicle that is hanging on by a string.
My car has aged a bit and has definitely shown it whether it be it is constant need for an oil change or how quickly it uses gas rather than before. I have switched the battery on the car twice now and am approaching its third battery change. The car also has difficulty starting up at times. Some of lights go out but I just replace them in the end.

The ford f-150 is a champ!
I have had no problems with this vehicle. Other than changing oil and tires, this vehicle is a champ. I would highly recommend the ford f-150 my truck is now 10 years old and still looks new and modern. The gas mileage is not too bad for an 8 cylinder vehicle, as long as you do not “put your foot into it.” as for hauling and towing, we have loaded the bed with dirt, fencing supplies, garbage, you name it... Very heavy loads and the truck still drives smooth.

2010 f150 harley Davidson edition.
The 2010 series harley Davidson pickup has been a super reliable vehicle and have owned it for over 7 years. Never left me stranded. The ride quality is great and the towing capacity is great for what I use it for. I enjoy the harley themed interior and the special badging appearance on the outside. Only gripe I have is the dual zone climate control is malfunctioning. Heat on one side and cold on the other. Wintertime is not a fun experience. Other than that, I would buy another f 150 for my next truck purchase.

Review of vehicle: 2010 ford f150.
Vehicle is very reliable and maintenance and upkeep are affordable. Fuel economy is not the best but it is about average for the vehicle type. Handles well in wet and snowy conditions. Bed capacity is great and can haul any items needed. Only issues I have encountered are rusting and reverse lights not being bright.

Common problems of my 2010 ford f-150.
Vct solenoid is defective and seems to be a common problem. Ford should correct this on all its models. Also, the 4x4 is not working. The truck should be designed so the 4x4 will always work no matter the amount of use. The body control module is starting to go bad. This also needs to be fixed by the makers. This affects the whole electrical system of the vehicle. I have a friend with a 2012 f150 with the same problem.

The way it is super simple to operate the trucks 4 wheel drive systems.
The only thing that I had problem with was the throttle sensor had to be replaced and it was a good thing that I took the extended warranty because it cost almost $2,000.00 to replace it. The right truck for the job.
I really enjoy this truck. Having the stx 2 wheel drive option may be a bad look, but being down south, 4 wheel drive is not exactly a necessity because you hardly get snow. This truck is a great work truck and have a huge 8 foot bed making hauling material and equipment very easy. If your interested in something you can take “mudding” then you might consider another vehicle. But for me and what I need, this truck works amazingly.

Ford for the long haul, great ride.
I feel my truck is very reliable and study. I have had it for 10 years and plan to drive it for 10 more. With any truck, the gas mileage is not the best, but it is not terrible. The back seat is very roomy and comfortable for 3. The seats go up so it can store a lot of things as well. The four wheel drive is a nice feature for off roading. The stereo is nothing special but I can use Bluetooth and I have a USB cord. It has good pickup and drives fine on the highway.

I hate how the tailgate latch keeps breaking. It is made from cheap plastic. Shocks have worn out and only have 150,000 miles on it. The bed liner is coming apart and it has now drain holes to let the water out of the bed of truck. It has no power windows or locks. No phone connection.

Not luxurious, but comfortable and reliable.
The ride is very smooth for a truck and feels very comfortable. The gas mileage is not terrible for a truck either, although of course it is not the best in the world either. It does not have a very good turn radius so parking can be challenging, especially factoring in the larger size of the vehicle. I have had very few maintenance issues so far, all of which were not expensive to have fixed. I have owned my truck for almost 8 years and still like it very much. It does not have a big touch screen display or extensive smartphone integration like newer vehicles have nowadays, but you can still connect audio with Bluetooth or an aux cable so it is not completely outdated yet. I plan on keeping my truck for a long time still.

I absolutely love my truck. I have not had a single performance issue with it, and have only had to do regular maintenance on it such as brakes, battery, tires, etc. It starts right up in the frigid cold and warms up quickly, the heated seats are a nice feature I truly enjoy as well. Backup camera is the clearest quality camera I have ever seen in a vehicle. 10/10 would definitely recommend this truck!!

The trustworthiness of a ford.
My truck has served me very well over the years. The only problem I have had is a slight problem with the fuel system. There was a tear in a tube not allowing it to send fuel to parts of the truck that needed it. Other than that this truck drives amazing. I have driven it to 190,000 miles and it still drives great. The back seat is very spacious and this truck can tow just about anything you would need. I recently put new speakers in, but the stock speakers are a great quality.

I absolutely love my truck, and I have made a lot of modifications to it. My only significant problem with it was engine issues caused by a part that commonly fails around 100,000 miles in my model's motor. It required an engine replacement, but only because the problem wasn't caught soon enough.

A comfortable family truck that runs well.
Overall the comfortability and drive are wonderful! It is roomy and can haul/hold a lot. Pretty reliable overall—I wish it got better gas mileage. I like the aesthetic pretty well too. It has clean lines and proportionate. I had the heater go out & the step rail piece break off, but those can be fixed.

Great 1/2 ton towing vehicle.
My truck has been very reliable this far. Have owned for two years and driven approximately 31,000 miles in all types of weather and mountainous terrain. Tows my 33 foot camper trailer well. Have only had issues towing when I either (1) do not engage the tow function which then brings on the check engine light or (2) drives steadily at 45-55 mph up steep terrain.

It is a maroon four door, 4wd, with a five and a half foot bed.
The gas cap is loose so when braking sometimes it will open and there is a leak in the rear window that makes my seats wet but the truck is great for road trips and super reliable. I have only had it for a few months but it is the best truck I have ever own and hopefully will last me a very long time.

My truck maintenance experience.
Had some minor problems with the steering section, and the vehicle needed new tires when I purchased it. I have brand new Goodyear tires put on it, and had the steering looked at by a professional and paid to have it fixed a couple months ago. Everything is fine now.

They look very nice when you put all terrain tires and lift them a little bit.
It is a very good vehicle but does have it is problems like for example the a/c blend doors last about 8 to 12 months then you got to replace them. And it's also really comfortable and really spacious, on the 4 door model you can fit up to 6 or 7 people.

For a dependable truck purchase a ford.
Very dependable. Starts right up in the mornings. Have only given it tune ups and changed the oil basic service no major repairs. Have purchased new tires for it. Good for hauling and transporting. Use it almost every day commuting 80 miles per day.

Ford Truck that can get you where you need to go
The performance is really good for a truck. Runs about 16 mpg. It is very reliable. Haven't had any problems over the 2 years I have had the truck. It has 140000 miles on it. Just your basic maintenance is needed. If you are looking for a truck go with ford

Safety features. Heavy duty body style. Good to have when there is snow as the 4 wheel drive helps while navigating in the snow.
Dependable. Very comfortable to drive and ride in. Interior is luxurious. The body style is good looking and the color dark navy looks sharp. We love out Ford F-150

2010 ford f150 XLT crew cab.
Very reliable. Four wheel drive is great. Safe and roomy. Have had issues with serpentine belt, that was repaired. Mpg is 13. 30 gallon gas tank costs me $80.00 to fill up. 480 miles until empty. I can get up to 100 mph before it governs on me. Tires for this vehicle are around 800 to 1,600 dollars.

It looks good and can haul a lot.
I like it rides smooth like a car. I like it can haul things. I don't like the gas mileage.

It's a Ford and always performs as needed. It's got some age on it, but still does a good job.
It is dependable and has plenty of room and still looks nice. No complaints.

Perfection at its finest.
Love it, works great, I make my husband drive the small car cause I love the truck so much rides smooth and I can see everything on the road in front and back and all around, has 4 wheel drive for the days I want to go off roading and overall makes me feel like I am the queen of the road, I don't worry about accidents as much either cause I feel like my truck wouldn't be the one smashed unless I was hit by a bus or semi.

The f-150 is a great family sized truck, whether it is just two or more.
Seating for six, spacious enough for three car seats. Like the interior lots of legroom, and storage space under back seat. Has a slight leak from antenna line but overall an excellent vehicle. Comes with standard tow package. Great for long trips and off-roading adventures.

Best truck for it is age with no issues.
It is 10 years old and has a few issues with rust. But runs really well and is very quiet. Has all the bells and whistles from back then. Doesn't get great gas mileage but doesn't guzzle it either. It is my first truck and I will drive until it is no longer able to be on the road.

Reliable 2010 ford f-150 is worth every penny I spent on it.
Have had very few mechanical problems since I have owned this vehicle. The one issue that has been consistent over the past 2-3 years is the air conditioning does not seem to blow the cold air as cold as I would like. The comfort of the vehicle is nice.
