How Often Should You Change the Oil in the Grand Cherokee?

This will depend on the type of oil you are using. If you are using full synthetic oil, you shouldn’t go more than 10,000 miles or one year between oil changes. Conventional oil will require more frequent oil changes.

The Grand Cherokee has an oil life system. This monitors the driving conditions, environment, and fuel type. Extreme temperatures, stop-and-go driving, and gas with high ethanol content can cause the oil to need to be changed sooner.

If you choose to change the oil yourself, you will need to reset the oil life system after the oil change.

For Cherokees without push-button start, you’ll need to turn the ignition key to the On position. Do not start the engine. Slowly depress the accelerator to the floor and release it three times within 10 seconds. Turn the key to the OFF position.

For vehicles with push-button start, you’ll press the ENGINE START button and cycle the ignition to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
