The 2019 Honda Accord is a solid performing vehicle that offers today’s drivers a lot of features to enjoy.

If you want to keep up with the vehicle and all of its potential, though, you need to ensure you maintain it with the right oil type and amount.

What oil type and capacity is right for the 2019 Honda Accord?

Owners of the 2019 Honda Accord will find it offers several engine types. This can impact the type and amount of oil the vehicle needs. Most of the vehicles require full synthetic ASE 0W-20 oil. In terms of how much you need, that ranges from 3.4 to 4.6 quarts depending on the size of the vehicle’s engine.

Knowing how to maintain your Honda Accord is a must. Doing so helps to protect the engine itself and can help to minimize any damage to the transmission. To help you know what steps you need to take, we’ll break down some key information for you here.

What You Should Know About the 2019 Honda Accord’s Engine

Whether you own or are thinking about buying the Honda Accord, chances are good you will find this to be the type of vehicle that gives you what you need – good reliability and performance.

The 2019 model offers some nice features, including an available manual transmission, a solid chassis, and a strong engine. This model year also upped the engine options. It now features a 2.0L (122 ci) Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine along with a hybrid powertrain.

The 2019 vehicle lineup for the Honda Accord offered six trim options ranging in price from $24,675 to $36,905. Here’s a look at the engine options.

  • Turbocharged 1.5L (91 ci) inline 4-cylinder engine that gets 192 horsepower
  • 2.0L inline 4-cylinder vehicle with 252 horsepower

The vehicles were available with either the six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. There’s a lot of power and control in these vehicles. The hybrid model available features a 4-cylinder and two electric motors.

These features help this vehicle offer a solid fuel economy. According to the EPA estimates, the 1.5-liter gets the best with 30 city and 38 highway for a combined 33 miles per gallon in fuel cost.

All of this insight can help you to understand what your vehicle needs in terms of oil. Here are some key insights to help you make the right decisions.

What Type of Oil Does the 2019 Honda Accord Need?

Pouring Oil In The Engine

Both engine options available from the Accord for this model year need the same type of fuel. That is SAE 0w-20 fully synthetic oil. You can find out more specific information by checking out the 2019 Honda Accord’s owner’s manual. That’s the place to check for all info you need about your vehicle.

If you are still looking for some reassurance, pop the hood of your car. Most of the time, the oil type is printed right on the motor oil cap near your engine. That can provide you with some additional insights.

How Much Oil Does the 2019 Honda Accord Need?

This is where there are some specific differences. The amount of oil necessary depends on the size of the vehicle’s engine. The larger it is, the more components it needs to lubricate.  Here’s what your owner’s manual says about oil compacity:

  • 1.5L engine needs 3.4 quarts of oil
  • 2.0L engine requires 4.6 quarts of oil

How to Check the Oil in Your 2019 Honda Accord

When you have an oil change, all of the oil in your engine is drained. It is then replaced with clean, new oil.

You also need to check the amount of oil in between oil changes. This should be done about once a month or more often if you think you may have an oil leak. Keep in mind that you don’t have to have a leak to lack enough oil in your vehicle. You should invest the time in pulling the dipstick to find out where you stand as a type of preventative step.

To do this, open the hood of the vehicle. You’ll see the bright yellow handle for the dipstick near the engine. This is also where you’ll find the engine oil cap to add in more. To check the oil, do this:

  • Pull out the dipstick by pulling it toward you in an upward movement.
  • Wipe it clean – the information on the dipstick right now is not accurate.
  • Place it back into the dipstick tube. Make sure it goes in all of the way.
  • Pull it out again. Now notice the two lines on the bottom few inches of the dipstick. The oil should be between those levels.
  • Don’t put more oil in unless it is near or under the bottom mark. Over-filling the oil does not minimize risk.

Changing the Oil? Be Sure to Reset Your Fuel Life

Once you change out the oil in your engine, if it is time to do so, you also need to reset the Honda Maintenance Minder system. This helps you to know the oil’s quality on a consistent basis. It helps to keep track of this in the system. When your oil life gets to 15 percent or so, it will light up a wrench on your display.

After changing your oil, you’ll need to let the car know you did so. Here’s a video that provides steps for how to do this:

It only takes a few minutes to navigate through the system to reset the oil. Only do this if you really did change the oil. Old oil is one of the biggest problems for today’s engines.

Stay on Top of All Maintenance Your Vehicle Needs

As a Honda owner, you may be relying on the vehicle’s Maintenance Minder software to tell you when you need to service the car. That’s okay but you should still know what to expect. To find out, check out the 2019 Honda Accord’s Vehicle History for more insight.
