The Base R8 Trim

Every 2020 Audi R8 is available in both coupe and convertible body styles, with the base coupe starting at $169,900 and the base convertible starting at $182,100. Regardless of body style, every base R8 comes with a 5.2L V10 engine at a whopping 562 horsepower that’s paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

On the exterior, the base R8 offers sleek styling and 19-inch wheels, as well as LED lighting, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive suspension dampers, and even an automatic power-rear spoiler.

Inside the cabin, the base R8 continues to impress with dual-zone automatic climate control and heated sport seats to keep you and your passenger comfortable. Meanwhile, leather upholstery provides an air of sophistication throughout.

Additional standard features include a built-in navigation system with Audi Connect telematics, a wireless charging pad for your devices, a robust 13-speaker sound system, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Two different package add-ons are available for the base trim, starting with a Carbon Exterior package ($5,600) that tacks on carbon sigma sideblades and a carbon-fiber engine cover.

A Carbon Interior package ($3,400) is also optional and offers carbon sigma high-gloss inlays around the virtual cockpit and air vents. Buyers also have the option to add a Ceramic Brake package for $9,900, which includes 15-inch front ceramic disc brakes and 14-inch rear ceramic disc brakes for even better performance.

The R8 Performance Trim

Stepping up to the R8 Performance trim will increase the starting MSRP to $195,000. For the extra cost, however, you’ll enjoy an even more powerful version of the 5.2L V10 that puts out an incredible 602 horsepower. The R8 Performance trim also sees some exterior upgrades, like larger 20-inch wheels with performance tires. Meanwhile, a sport exhaust and a sport suspension pair with standard ceramic brakes and a carbon-fiber rear wing.

The R8 Performance trim is similarly equipped as the base trim on the inside, though this range-topping trim is the only one offered with a limited “Decennium Edition” distinction ($18,500) that adds some heart-pumping details like:

  • 20-inch wheels with a matte-bronze finish
  • 18-way power-adjustable seats
  • Diamond-stitched sport seats
  • Matte-bronze intake manifold
  • Dynamic steering system

How much does a 2020 Audi R8 cost?

The 2020 Audi R8 has a starting price of $142,700 for the base rear-wheel-drive coupe and $154,900 for the rear-wheel-drive convertible. These both have V10 engines that produce 532 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque and come standard with a dual-clutch transmission. The coupe can do 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds, and the convertible does it in 3.7 seconds making them very similar.

The Audi V10 Performance coupe has a starting price of $196,700 and it has an all-wheel-drive system. The Performance version of the convertible has a starting price of $208,100 and is also offered with all-wheel-drive. Each of these has a V10 that makes 602 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. That allows these to do 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds for the coupe and 3.3 seconds for the convertible.

The Audi R8 is a great performance car and a great value since it is more affordable than a lot of the other mid-engine supercars on the market today.

How fast is the Audi R8 performance?

The Audi R8 Performance is the fastest version of the R8 that Audi has released yet. The coupe version can do zero to sixty miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, and the convertible is right behind it at 3.3 seconds. The coupe also has a top speed of 205 miles per hour and the convertible's top speed is 204 miles per hour.

These are both very capable sports cars with their 5.2L V10 engine, and they have the exotic look from their styling. These are considered to be great bargains in the sports car and supercar world because they give you the same performance for thousands of dollars less.

The Audi R8 Performance is worth looking at if you are in the market for a high-performance vehicle. These are extremely capable vehicles that are also known to be more reliable than some of the offerings from the more boutique high-end brands.

Is the Audi R8 V8 a supercar?

Whether or not the Audi R8 is a supercar is something that has been debated since it was first released in 2006. When it first came out the first generation had either a 4.2L V8 or a 5.2L V10. For the second generation, Audi discontinued the 4.2L V8 because they felt it was not powerful enough to justify the price.

The R8 has a lot of things in common with all lot of the other supercars on the market. It is offered with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive depending on the configuration, and they have a mid-mounted engine. The Audi R8 is also built on the same platform as the Lamborghini Huracan, but it is much more affordable.

In the end, I would consider the R8 to be a supercar. They have great unique aggressive looks and they can keep up with the offerings from Lamborghini, Ferrari, and McLaren. The R8 is a supercar that you can get on a tighter budget.
