The Chevy Cruze is loaded with great safety and security features. But every new feature is one more thing you need to learn how to deal with.

Thankfully, the process for resetting a Chevy Cruze theft deterrent system isn’t too complicated.

How do you reset a Chevy Cruze theft deterrent system?

Press the unlock button, get out of the car, but leave the door open, then press the lock button on the door, and shut it. Simple as that.

This fix will work most of the time. In the odd event that something goes wrong, you can also perform a hard reset. We’ll get into that below, and we’ll also take a look at exactly how a theft-deterrent system works. Read on.

How a Theft Deterrent System Works

A theft-deterrent system is basically a set of sensors in and around the car, and a response system. The sensors can detect if the car is bumped, if someone tries to open the door without the key, or if the car is moved.

The response system could be a simple alarm system, blasting the horn and flashing the lights, or, as is more common these days, an engine immobilizer, ensuring that the car will not move until the owner comes back, identifying themselves by key or key fob.

The specifics of a theft-deterrent system will vary from vehicle to vehicle, and there are aftermarket systems, meaning your anti-theft system might not match one found in the same make and model. But they all consist of the same two main components: sensors, and a response system.

Resetting the Chevy Cruze Theft Deterrent System

Here’s the good news: You don’t need to worry about being late for work because your anti-theft system went off. You won’t be holding gas pedals down for five minutes or anything like that.

The fix takes just a few seconds.

  1. Press the unlock button
  2. Step out of the car, leaving the car door open
  3. Press lock button on the door
  4. Shut the door

That is usually going to work. But with older models, you may have problems with old wiring and solder joints and you may need a hard reset. All you have to do to perform one of these is disconnect the battery.

  1. Remove negative cable
  2. Remove positive cable
  3. If you want to make sure you’ve drained any lingering energy, turn the key and press the horn
  4. Attach positive cable
  5. Attach negative cable

In almost any car you ever own, a hard reset will help to correct a lot of electrical issues. But it will reset your Bluetooth, radio settings, and everything else. So, try the door trick first.

Easy to Drive, Easy to Fix

Most of the problems you’re going to have with a Chevy Cruze are pretty easy to fix. Along with mpg and price, that should be a major point when car-shopping. If you want to know what you’re getting yourself into, read the Vehicle History before you buy.

Holden Cruze - Chevrolet Cruze - GM Cruze
If your Cruze is immobilised. The only way to start the car is bring your car back to the dealer. The dealership have the correct software to program the key and to reset the immo unit. Its required 4 digit immo pin. What Mr Gilbert saying in his article was, that trick only to try your luck by doing odd things. However it will not work for you. If someone try to steal the car, and do that trick. Then, the police department will sratch their heads, why this thing is happening.
