Gray 2019 Chevrolet Cruze From Front-Driver Side

The Chevy Cruze is a compact four-door sedan that offers style and reliability. It is equipped with a theft deterrent system as well which can help keep your car safe from thieves.

But it can be a problem if you inadvertently trigger the alarm, which will likely wake even the neighbors neighbors.

How do I turn off the theft deterrent system in the Chevy Cruze?

You may be able to turn off the theft deterrent system by using the physical key in the driver’s side door. You can also turn the ignition switch to the ‘accessories on’ position. You will need to give the car time to register that you have the correct key.

It is frustrating when your car isn’t functioning properly, particularly when it’s due to something that is meant to be beneficial. We will look at a few ways to turn off the theft deterrent system and other interesting facts about the Chevy Cruze.

Chevy Cruze History

The Chevy Cruze debuted in 2009. It was popular due to its technology and affordable price during the economic downturn. It remained largely unchanged until its 2016 redesign.

The 2016 model upped the game. It featured the latest technology and styling that set it apart from the competition. Interior materials were upgraded as well. It was lighter, had 15 more horsepower units than the previous model, and the weight reduction and added torque made it more fun to drive.

It felt like a sports sedan and looked like one as well. The 1.5L (91 ci) 4-cylinder is turbocharged and provided 153 horsepower.

The 2018 redesign updated the look of the Cruze. The 1.5L engine remained standard. There is also an optional 1.6L (97 ci) turbo diesel 4-cylinder. The diesel engine gets 137 horsepower but can achieve fuel economy of 47 mpg.

How to Reset the Theft Deterrent System on the Chevy Cruze

The first step to resetting the deterrent system is determining the cause. A dead car battery can cause the system to need to be reset. If you attempt to enter the vehicle or open the trunk while the system is armed, these actions can trigger it as well.

If there’s no obvious event that triggered the alarm, the next step is to check your key and the battery in your key fob. If the key fob battery is dead or the key is damaged, this can set off the alarm.

If there was an attempted forced entry that damaged your door lock, this will set it off as well.

Once you’ve determined there is no ongoing problem, it’s time to reset the alarm.

The first method is to put the key into your driver’s side door lock. Turn the key both ways and leave the key in the unlock position for 30 seconds before taking it out.

The second method is to put the key into the ignition. You won’t be able to start the vehicle if the alarm is triggered. You will see a flashing alarm light on the dash. Simply turn the key to the ‘accessory on’ position.

You’ll need to wait 10-15 minutes, leaving the key in the ignition. Turn the key back to the off position. Wait two minutes to allow the system to reset. The dash light should be off, and you should be able to start your car.

If this step isn’t successful, follow the process again. It may work on the second attempt.

Lastly, you can unhook the battery. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes, then reattach the battery cables. This should reset your theft deterrent system. If the system is still on, use the ignition method.

2014 Chevy Cruze ,Problem Puzzel
I purchased my used 2014 Cruze in April 2021. I drove it 3 days and the engine blew. Five thousand dollars for an engine overhaul. Wasn't able to drive it till Dec.'21. I do not drive much, maybe 50 mile a week, O2 sendor, map sensor and 2 more need replacing. The key fobs buttons fell out immediately making the fob worthless. Now my anti theft system has my car inoperable and can't get around it to turn it off. The car does look good and the turbo is fun to drive, even the stereo system I give the thumbs up but over all I say👎 don't bother looking at these cars..#money pit

Good car
I bought a new chevy Cruze in 2012. It’s had its problems but were fixed on a recall notice. I’m having trouble now with the horn alarm system going off for no reason. I don’t know how much our neighbors can take! My grandson takes auto shop at school so he has been trying to at least disable it!
