If you’re experiencing brake-related issues, don’t mess around. It’s not worth the risk to yourself, your passengers, and other motorists. Even a car model like the Ford Fusion (one of the safest sedans on the road) can’t function without working brakes.

How many brake recalls has the Ford Fusion had?

There’s only one involving a faulty ABS valve that may remain open after an event.

Ford Fusion Cars Lineup

Here, we will cover this ABS issue, as it’s the only brake recall issued for the Ford Fusion. Then you can consider the next steps and follow them to have your vehicle repaired by a professional.

ABS Valve May Stick Open After an ABS Event Occurs

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V904000

Having an ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) is an important part of owning a safe vehicle. While older cars didn’t have this feature, it now comes standard on vehicles and reduces the chances of a collision by helping the driver brake suddenly and firmly while greatly reducing the chances of a skid or slide.

Some Ford Fusion vehicles have a faulty ABS valve that remains open when the ABS has been activated. That can result in a failure of the ABS when and if the driver needs to use it again.

The failure of this valve and the lack of warning for the driver can increase the chances of a collision.

Dealers will replace faulty ABS valves to solve the problem.

How to Work Through a Ford Fusion Brake Recall

If you’re not sure if there’s a brake recall on your particular Ford Fusion vehicle, the best way to find out is to go to the NHTSA website and input the VIN of your vehicle.

There’s a search box specifically for that purpose. You can also use your vehicle’s year, make and model for information on recalls that might be on your vehicle.

When you have a recall on your vehicle, you’ll want to reach out to Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. That way, you can discover the next steps to get your vehicle repaired and what you can expect throughout the process.

THE BRAKE PEDAL IS CONTINUTING TO GET SOFTER AND CLOSER TO THE FLOOR.

2009 Ford Fusion - No brakes. Ford has a recall for the excessive brake pedal travel, however they don't know how to fix their own problem. My 2009 had that issue, the brakes went almost all the way to the floor when stopping. I bled the brakes multiple times, computer bled the abs module, replaced rotors and pads, because they were below spec, and still the same issue. While researching for answers I came across the recall. I called my local Ford dealer which offered to fix it for free under the recall. Over a month goes by with no response after dropping it off. Then I call to see what the issue is, they tell me they ordered the abs module and it came in wrong so they ordered another one. After some time they called and said that the module on the recall did not fix the issue, they needed to put a new master cylinder on it for $380 and it would fix the issue, I told them to go ahead since they had installed the abs module for free. Several days go by and they call me to tell me that the master cylinder did not correct the problem that I needed new calipers all the way around for a cost of over $1900, to which I declined. Technicians are supposed to be experts, not expensive parts changers. I picked up the car and the brakes were worse than ever. Having a mechanical background myself I decided to diagnose the car further which I should have done in the first place. Using a brake pressure gauge I determined it was the left rear brake caliper. I replaced one caliper for around $80, bled my brakes and the problem is solved. I should have repaired it myself to begin with. When I saw the recall and how many vehicles had the same problem, I wrongly assumed the recall would fix the issue. I hope this helps someone with the same issue.

My 2009 Fusion has no brakes! I decided not to drive it in October 2020.I dropped it off at local Ford dealership. They still have not repaired brakes. They have told me a 100 times the parts are not available. They stated maybe mid July. Don't hold your breath!
