2016 Jeep Cherokee Overview

Data provided by Edmunds

The 2016 Jeep Cherokee is one of many small crossovers competing for buyers in this fiercely contested segment. The 2016 Cherokee stands out with its powerful V6 engine, comfortable ride and impressive off-road capability in specialized Trailhawk trim. Compared to its rivals, however, the 2016 Jeep Cherokee comes up short on luggage space and four-cylinder acceleration.

The small crossover segment is one of the most competitive in the industry, filled with affordable, well-equipped and comfortable vehicles. The 2016 Jeep Cherokee looks to distinguish itself by offering those traits plus the allure of Jeep's legendary off-road capability. Additionally, the Cherokee features a roomy interior with straightforward controls and ample sound insulation. Aside from its unusually modest cargo capacity and an underwhelming four-cylinder engine, this Jeep's got a lot going for it. Although Jeep lists that 2.4-liter four-cylinder at a competitive 184 horsepower, we're not particularly fond of the way it puts down that power. The Cherokee feels sluggish on the road with it, and the associated nine-speed automatic transmission can be slow to downshift when the driver demands power. The optional 3.2-liter V6 is superior, as it's much peppier when called upon, yet not much thirstier at the gas pump. We prefer the V6, but opting for the pricier V6 naturally hurts the Cherokee's value proposition. While all versions of the 4WD Cherokee are off-road-capable, you really want the Trailhawk to tackle serious terrain. As for the Cherokee's off-road credentials, they're mainly associated with the Trailhawk model, which is easily recognizable by its tough-guy looks and higher ride height. The Trailhawk gets a robust four-wheel-drive system with low-range gearing and adds an exclusive locking rear differential. With 8.7 inches of ground clearance and skid plates, the Cherokee Trailhawk can venture into terrain normally reserved for off-road-ready SUVs like the Toyota 4Runner and Jeep's own Wrangler. If the Trailhawk seems too expensive, the other trims offer a regular all-wheel-drive setup that puts the Cherokee on about the same level as rival AWD-equipped small crossovers. If you're shopping for a small crossover, there are some other options to consider. The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 offer more cargo space and superior four-cylinder engines than the Cherokee, while the Ford Escape and Mazda CX-5 are more engaging to drive. You might also consider the Subaru Forester and Subaru Crosstrek, which come standard with all-wheel drive and match the Trailhawk's impressive ground clearance. Overall, though, the 2016 Jeep Cherokee is a solid contender with plenty to offer, particularly if you're the adventurous type.

The 2016 Cherokee can deliver plenty of off-roading capability, but the bigger story is that it's civilized and comfortable enough to drive to work every day. It's worth a look if you're shopping for a small SUV.

For 2016, Cherokees equipped with the 8.4-inch Uconnect system get Siri Eyes Free compatibility, a new drag-and-drop menu bar and a Do Not Disturb function that sends phone calls straight to voicemail and can generate an automatic reply to text messages.

Making jeeps great again

The Cherokee is not for everyone but if you want real off road capability and towing (4500#)capacity this is the only choice, albeit an expensive one.

Ride like a wagon

We rented this vehicle while our truck was in the shop for body work. I can't believe a vehicle with under 15,000 miles feels like the front end is going to fall out. It feels like the front bearings, are worn and the shocks and ball joints are shot. For a vehicle that looks totally new it rides miserably. As a person in the market for a new vehicle, I would go elsewhere. Jeep has definitely gone cheap.

Noises

I bought a 2016 Jeep Cherokee it is making a noise. I keep the maintenance up on my car. The noise is very annoying and I can't stand it. I'm a single parent and I really want to trade it in. I have read the other reviews and it appears there is nothing that can be done with this noise. I don't know what to do. I'm in the process of contacting Fletcher Dodge in Jonesboro Arkansas, the car price is to high to have this kind of noise coming from the engine. Also the speakers sound as if they are busted. I hate this car. Can someone tell me what I can do. I will never recommend anyone to buy this vehicle. Disgruntle Customer.

Latitude V6

Very high quality. Solid and very quiet. 9 speed automatic is surprisingly good. Great performance in mountains. V6 is powerful. Always 25 to 30 mpg fuel economy. Heated seats and wheel are very useful. UConnect, Bluetooth, and cell phone integration are good. Navigation is very bad, with odd direction calculations and chronically out of date. Use your smartphone app. instead. Auto stop/start is annoying, and has no value. Still, very pleased overall. Good job, Jeep.

Bad radio

I recently leased a 2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude after having a 2010 Lincoln . wanted something different . I was looking for a lot of extras and was surprised to find most of my wish list with this car. I am happy with how it drives and the extras, but I am writing this because I am so disappointed in the radio. I get a handful of stations and I have asked the service guy to check it , thinking there was something wrong., but was told it was a new radio and there was nothing wrong. I am not sure if anyone is having the same issue. I like listening to the radio not just a few stations. I am thinking on bringing it back because of this . so if you are about to purchase this jeep and you want a good radio , don't buy this jeep .

By far the worst Jeep ever.

So we had to rent this car while our X5 was getting fixed. First I want to say that this car is not good looking at ALL. First i will start with the quality of the interior . The front seat comfort was OK, but the rear seat comfort was awful. Now the engine. I am blown away by how horrible this engine is. I tried to accelerate and I seriously had to wait a solid 2 seconds to go any farther . AND yes I know cars have lag , but this was a lack of a good engine. I hate this so called SUV.

I don't know what I've gotten myself into

I have been having issues with this care starting.. it sounds like it doesn't want to start. When I put the key in to start it up, it sounds like it isn't turning over. I had to push the gas pedal so that it would start up and I shouldn't have to, so I am worried about this, and I don't want to continue with this lease. I don't know if anyone else is having this issue but I am thinking about

Lemon

My wife and I recently had a baby and decided to turn in my old Jeep Liberty for a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Latitude. The thought was to get the baby into a nice, safe and smooth ride. This car has been terrible. The dealership and service area have been absolutely horrendous, but that's not what you guys care about. I have had this car for six months and have had to bring it in for service 4 times, not including the windshield wiper recall. They have had to replace the radio system 3 times. The touch screen and radio continue to black out which does not let me control the heating vent system, radio and rear view back up camera. When I hit 30 MPH the back up camera goes on while driving forward. The radio is in and out when this happens, not that I can control it. This happened during the recent snow storms in Southern Maine and I was not able to select my rear and front defrosters as the buttons did not work on top of the touch screen. Luckily when the radio and touch screen went it was already on these settings. Currently still in the shop now while they are adding a new radio. I also had to have my right signal repaired because it went out after 2 months. They think it was actually the wiring connecting to the light. took them 2 hours to figure it out. The interior is nice, but poor vision around corners due to the frame. Smooth ride, but the 4 cyclinder is a little sluggish. Actually impressed with handling in the snow. But, I asked for options to replace the jeep from the dealer and they said to call Chrysler and complain as that's my best course of action or they could have me trade it back into them for a new Jeep but I they said I would have to pay more for it. Unbelievable. Done with Jeep.

Special Dealer Edition

The only complaint I have is that the headlights do not appear as bright as my other SUV vehicle (Mitsubishi Outlander XLS 2007) I plan to have some high intensity LED driving lights installed. Overall I love this vehicle. The V6 is fun and has plenty of tow power, in sport mode it gets up and goes! This was a special edition ordered by the dealership and it had not even been offloaded off the transport and I said I wanted it after test driving a similar model. This one had 12 miles on it. It has the blacked out package, V6, and 18 inch wheels which were not offered through the manufacture website in the combination I bought. Side note: its not the Overland V6 but the Sport with dealer options, V6 etc.

Crash Tested!!

I leased a 2016 Jeep Cherokee and recently got into a terrible accident with the car. I was shocked how the car reacted to the accident. It did what it was built to do, which was save me and the car itself fell apart. I got hit on the drivers side and then the force from that forced me to hit a telephone pole. I was told that if I had been driving my old car, which was a 2010 Volkswagen, the accident would've been much worse and my injuries would've been worse. I highly suggest this car to anyone that is looking at a Jeep. It is extremely reliable and has the best ride I've ever driven in a car. It's great in the snow/rain as well. If you're looking into Jeep's, definitely look at this one! I also suggest the Jeep Grand Cherokee, as I have that one as well. Both of these vehicles are wonderful and their performance is top of the line.

Love it. Radio, electronics needs attention!

The button on the back of my steering wheel to navigate through pre-programmed stations has never worked. The dealer, Steve White in Hickory NC told me 3x they could find no problem. It skips stations, goes to stations never programmed, repeats several stations 2-3x. Havill in Jefferson WI saw the problem immediately. Despite their best efforts (replacing the button, updating the computer, new wiring harness) -it's worse than ever. And now the tailgate opens on it's own. They're contacting Chrysler but I'm looking at trades. I've had this since new, paid $40k, have the Trailhawk with 3.2 (which wasn't an option on this site), has only 15,000 miles.... Comfort, driving, etc is excellent. Very happy otherwise, but this is annoying enough to consider trade.

First-time SUV

The first thing I want to take the time to review is the buying experience. I went to the Auto Nation in Pembroke Pines, FL. My sales guy was Michael Lewis. I saw him the day before I actually purchased the vehicle and knew that he would be the one to take me through the process. I came in the next day, told him what I was looking for and he made the process as stress-free as possible (also to mention I am 8 months pregnant). This is my first SUV, so the rating I am giving is purely off of first impression. I have the limited, which has a lot of bells and whistles that are impressive. The leather interior was a must have for me, which only comes with all limited vehicles. The larger screen and technology is not only a great feature, but also good for safety. The car comes equipped with 10 airbags. I am having a baby really soon and the safety features was a big deal for me, as well as having the larger space. So far, I have had a smooth ride, but I am still in the brand new stage of the vehicle. I am comfortable and very happy with this purchase. I was also concerned with the heavy engine, which is not an issue. My overall experience with this purchase was really great. My salesman had my hard tag the next day and made sure anything that I was missing was ordered. I recommend purchasing this vehicle and recommend purchasing from that dealership.

Amazing

this is my first jeep and I am sold It took my interest because of three things 1. the towing capacity 2. the leg room in the rear seats 3. the optional V6 engine,
I go camping a lot with my pop up camper and my previous car could hardly tow the pop up but this Cherokee tows like a dream you almost forget the trailer is there
I also have a 9 year old son who loves the extra leg room in the back seat and the comfort of the seats
the V6 engine Is amazing plenty of power and the Fuel efficiency is amazing
I am impressed with the Cherokee it is well worth the money and its worth looking at

Do not buy this lemon!

My first ever jeep purchase and my last!! Nothing but problems! Started leaking oil at 500 miles. Yes! 500 miles. Nightmare steering aliergnment issues. Dealer could care less. They have my money and that's all they care about. I would never recommend jeep or Chrysler! American made cars are crap! I'll stick with Toyota/Nissan from now on.

2016 Jeep Cherokee Leak

I was so excited to purchase the anniversary edition 2016 Jeep Cherokee. I even had customer leather seats installed with the matching tangerine and white trim and had all the windows tinted. On August 11, 2016, Baton Rouge experienced an enormous amount of rain. I've owned at least 20 cars in my lifetime and they've been through hurricanes and rain before, so this particular day shouldn't have been any different. It wouldn't have been if Jeep had made sure all the wheel wells were sealed. I brought my Jeep to a dealer and that's what they found. The LF wheel well wasn't sealed properly and I had several inches of water in my drivers floorboard and behind the driver. The carpet held 2-3" of water for days before I noticed it. (10 total while trying to dry myself and waiting on the dealer) I'm hoping that's the only area to leak and that it was repaired properly. I'm still waiting for the dealer and Jeep to contact me if they will replace the carpet. Waiting and waiting!! The dealer did not dry my carpet or the pad at all. I had to do that myself with fans and blow dryers for days. I guess they thought if they put it back down I wouldn't notice. They didn't even remove the seat to check for any further damage to electrical or to dry. I'm hoping I don't have any future electrical problems with my new purchase. Currently, I'm having the Jeep inspected by my insurance and a second opinion from another Jeep dealer. As long as I know there is no future damage and that Jeep will stand behind replacing the carpet if needed, I still feel I made a good purchase. Out of all the suv's I looked at, the 2016 Cherokee was the most comfortable and easiest to handle.

Outstanding for what it is

Make not mistake, this is a compact crossover that is semi-rugged, not fully rugged. In that sense, this vehicle is great. They've packed a lot into this body.

Likes:
Love the V6, mileage isn't great if you like to open her up but if you treat her nicely it will return decent mileage.
Very quiet cabin, only really hear the engine loudly when flooring it.
Alpine sound system is very nice.
Lane Departure system works as advertised.
Rear view Camera is awesome on the 8.4" screen, the computer is fast, recognizes your phone quickly and responds to commands quickly.
Highly recommend getting the Safety/Convenience package that nets you the 3 items mentioned above.
Interior space is decent.

Dislikes:
None yet really. The start/stop system when you are at the red light or at a stop seems to stop too late and start to early. Haven't looked at the settings yet to see what is up with that.

Overall, really like it. What it offers that the others really don't is a nice V6 that provides sweet acceleration for zipping about......a major plus for me. Also, from a cost standpoint it is a good value after rebates etc. Mine MSRP'd at just over $30k and I got it for just above $24k. Lot of vehicle for $24k.

DONT BUY!!

I bought the 2016 Cherokee Sport, it sounds like a diesel powered sewing machine, according to the dealer its normal.. yeah you heard it right.. A 2016 Jeep sounds like a 92 Chevy Cavalier only the Cavalier has more power and sounds better!! not to mention the headlights get a lot of moisture in them "dealer said that's normal too" < because you want a brand new car with rusted headlight connectors right?!?.. this vehicle is a joke!! You hit the gas and it takes a good 3 seconds to start moving. The MPG is around 13 to 14, not what the manufacturer says and that's driving like an old lady. Very Unhappy with it and will NOT buy another Jeep unless its a 90's model that's the only time they got it right!!

This is a Jeep?????

Considering I learned to drive in a '47 Willy's jeep pickup......Jeep has come a long ways.Bought a 2016 Trailhawk with the 4cyl. I dont do much towing so didnt need the extra 2 cylinders for 1000 + dollars. On the way home took it down a 2 mile sand trail that eats rails and buggys on a regular basis. No problems at all in 4wd/auto setting. The technology is pretty impressive, lane assist, adaptive braking, etc. It almost drives itself. The 8 speed auto trans seems to get a little confused with up and downshifts. The cure for this is to drive it with authority, not like an 80 year old lady. My only complaint is the exhaust sound. Kinda like a constipated bumble bee. Borla makes a catback exhaust system that should take care of that. I'll trade it in 4 years. Cant wait to see what to 2020 looks like.

Just went through our first Colorado Snow storm

I love this car. I am able to do 90 on the interstate and go off roading in comfort and style. It consistently turns heads and is very fun to drive. I am seriously disappointed with the software package. I use my iPhone for navigation not the car's built in. Also it has a difficult time with blue tooth and USB connectivity. The WIFI hot spot is useless because its low network 3g. (seriously slow) So for everything non software related it rocks, but you have to learn to work around the digital features short comings. Also customer service at the dealership is non existent so don't expect much follow up after the initial flurry of support from Mopar.

Too soon to tell - update

I just took delivery of my car today but I had a similar loaner for 3 weeks as mine came from an out-of-state dealer and had to be prepped to my specifications. I bought this machine so I can flat tow behind my RV. I always keep a car for 10 years or more, and given my age this could be my last car. Hence I bought all the bells and whistles and sure glad I did. The more I drive it the more I love it. Regarding fuel economy, maintenance, etc. it's too soon to tell. UPDATE: I've had the car for several months now, got it primarily because I can flat tow it behind my RV. To do so there is a mandatory accessory electrical harness that must be installed. Most dealers didn't know anything about it. That said, I pretty much love the car. Good power, good trail capability, GPM up to 30 on highway & tows great. I have almost as many towed miles as I do driven. (odometer shows only driven miles).

The Best Car I've Ever Purchased!

I had been seriously shopping around for this type of car for quite some time. I had about five dealerships calling me.
When I first test drove my 2016 Jeep Cherokee, I was a bit worried. I live on insanely curvy roads and this car could have handled the curves poorly. It didn't! It handles the twists and turns of my rural road beautifully!
I got a great price from my local dealership, had a trailer hitch installed on it for hauling bicycles around and it looks so great!
I love all of my car's features, but I do have one complaint; no CD player. It's not the actual car's fault though because I guess basically no new cars have a CD player installed. One day, I'll probably look into getting a CD player installed, but my iPod works just fine for now.
All in all, this is the best car I've ever owned and I would highly recommend it for anyone that is looking for a quality vehicle.

Cherokee guy

Storage only fair, need more space get a larger SUV. Shifts are smooth, I do feel pain for those that have experienced transmission problems. If a issue arises later I will edit my review. The V6 is powerful and merging into traffic is no problem. I did test drive the Jeep Cherokee twice and I urge everyone thinking about buying any SUV to do there homework. Bottom line I love my Cherokee. No problems after 10,200 and very happy with the mileage ( good 24 mpg) Seat comfort on long trips is very good. Stop start is sometimes a nuisance but I feel it does aid in better gas mileage. A smaller SUV but very solid on the road.
Just returned from a 2,500 trip and got 30 miles to a gallon. 95% of this is on interstate 75 cursing at the speed limit. Had to knock down the rear seats to get all the luggage in. Oh yeah 1 recall for the windshield wiper arm. Total mileage now 19,700.
P.S. no transmission problems.

Perfect size

I test drove many cars and then I test drove the Jeep Cherokee. It handles the road nicely, and I did not hear the road noise that I heard while driving the Nissan Rouge.

2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 2.4L 4 Cycle

Bought this because I wanted the off road version, but was light in the wallet at the time of purchase. I suppose most people went with the V6 for the Trailhawk. I will say that if I met someone thinking about buying this car, I would say get the V6. You will be happier. That being said, the 2.4 4cyl tiger shark with the 9 speed transmission has kind of "learned" my driving habits, The transmission software issues from the '14 models are worked out and fixed. Sport mode is fun. I am happy I went with the "green" version. It is capable as hell, decent on gas,

Awesome SUV

This was my first jeep purchase and i am very pleased with my 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk. I got a great deal and was quite suprised on the comfort and the overall performance. The first weekend I had it i went out of town and i got about 28 mpg on the highway. The scond trip was to the beach and went about 300 miles on a half of tank. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for an SUV.

We really like it

This model was not listed in the review choices, so for the record, it is a 2016 Cherokee Latitude, 4x4, 3.2 V6 engine, tow package, cold weather pkg, safty pkg, comfort pkg, uconnect 8.4 with navigation. Manufactured 4/23/2016, purchased June 8th. Plenty of power, quiet, shifts perfect, and very comfortable. Just hit 1,100 miles, getting 30-31mpg on the highway.

UPDATE -now at 3000 miles. Still perfect.

UPDATE - 1/29/2017. 11,000 miles - Zero issues, it's been a great vehicle.

Jeep Cherokee

Just bought this Jeep Cherokee five days ago. I wasn't really looking to buy a SUV. My husband talked me into taking it for a test drive. When I came back with it I really liked it. I haven't gotten a new car in some time. Drove real smooth, and it didn't even feel like a 4 cycle. The in side is real nice. I can't believe I went to a two door car to a SUV, that is how much I liked it..There are a few things I would of liked it to have on it. A sun roof, tinted windows, and the sound of the radio I wish it was a little louder, the volume isn't that high. I planning on keeping this for some time..I never thought I would be driving a SUV, when all the kids are gone and it's just me....
It's been 6 months now and I feel like I bought a lemon. It seemed like every month there was something going wrong with it took it in the dealership they were great about fixing it but who knows what's going to go wrong again. And I have only 2,7000 miles on it. If I had to redo it again I would go to the next step up !!

GREAT VALUE - Opt for the 3.2liter V6!

I've had my 2016 Latitude since December 2015 after having a 2005 Grand Cherokee for 11 virtual trouble-free years. I am amazed at all the bells and whistles this mid-price Cherokee has on it. My wife drives a Mercedes SL550 ($104,000 car) and the Cherokee has many of the features that's on the Mercedes, and in some cases, some the Benz doesn't have. We opted for the bigger engine upgrade (3.2-V6-25+mpg that I highly recommend), Comfort/Convenience package and the UConnet 8.4" screen upgrade. The incentives were great ($2K cash back + 0% for 60 months. I don't think I could have gotten more for the money anywhere else.

Performance

A year has passed since my wife and I purchased this Jeep Cherokee. Overall the function appears to operate as designed. Has decent acceleration, and stopping capabilities. Great fuel economy and plenty of space. The noise from the engine compartment is irritating, but not as much as the day we purchased. Just sounds like a knocking noise, the dealer says it is air cooling system.

LOVE My Baby Jeep!!

I just traded in my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee for the 2016 Cherokee Latitude (v6) and OMG! I'm in love. I didn't think I would like a smaller version of what I had but I was wrong. The comfort, the bells and whistles and the road handling. I feel like I'm in a sporty type vehicle. It handles curves AWESOME! I'm happy. The ONLY thing that can be a little annoying is the ceiling noise. I guess, with the panoramic moon roof, the glass doesn't shield road noises like a metal ceiling would. But it looks FABULOUS when the roof is exposed! I love it! I'll always have a Jeep in my life! Since I only had 11 miles when I got it (2 days ago), I can't speak to the gas mileage yet, but the car is wonderful! I LOVED My Grand Cherokee, but it had soooooooo many issues. It was hard to part with it because it was truly my Dream car, but this baby Jeep has me wondering what took me so long. Great look, great "toys", great handling and GREAT car! But wait! Forgot to mention the fact that with UConnect, I am able to start my car from ANYWHERE. From my computer at my desk(!!!), from the mobile app on my phone or from my keyfob.

I love Jeep!

First of all this is my first brand new vehicle, and my first SUV. I shopped around ALOT, and I found that I kept coming back to the Jeep Cherokee Limited. I bought mine with just about every upgrade you could get. The inside is very nice. I love how comfortable the seats are, they will be great for long term driving, even the back seats are just as good. The exterior is equally as nice. I think chrome wheels would have looked better but these look good, and are probably more durable too. The Panoramic Sunroof is perfect I get plenty of light, and when its open I feel like I'm in a convertible. The only bad thing I have to say is I wished I would have got the V6. There just isn't a lot of power to it. With that said I test drove the V6 too and there was not a big difference in power or take off. But my previous vehicle was a Pontiac with V6 which are know to have lots of power, so I guess I just have to get use to it. The only Vehicle I found that compared as well was the FORD Edge but it cost more too, other than that I LOVE my new JEEP.

Sour Lemony Snickets

2016 Defective brakes off the lot. Replaced all major components. Dealer was unable to get it right. Took them 12 days.

Brakes on these cars are unresponsive and too firm, making it difficult to react quickly in an emergency situation. I don't get why they are designed like this.

saftey tech blind spot, rear assist are great. Acceleration is very good, appearance and interior build style/quality very good. Navigation is quite basic for $600!

Post-purchase all I hear about are reliability issues. So maybe I should've researched this car a lot more before buying. I doubt I'll let this car ever get out of warranty.

DON'T BUY A CHEROKEE!!

When the vehicle was new, we were very happy with it. It wasn't until we were stranded for 3 hours do to a transmission failure with 10,500 miles on the vehicle that we found out just how unreliable it would be. The Jeep was towed to a local Jeep dealer for repair. They provided excellent service by the way; five computer modules were upgraded and the problem appeared to be corrected. A day later, the problem reappeared, died while on a highway, and the vehicle went back to the shop. This time they determined that it would need a valve on the transmission that had failed.
The unreliability of a vehicle with only 10,500 miles made me very nervous for the future. My wife and I were visiting Florida at the time and the thought of driving 1,400 miles to get home to upstate New York with a vehicle that could shut down any time during the trip prompted us to trade the vehicle immediately. To make matters worse, we lost half the value of the purchase price by trading a 9 month old vehicle, but felt that we had no choice! I have been a loyal Chrysler/Jeep owner for many years but am severing my ties with Blevins dealership and any Chrysler products. It's obvious that Chrysler uses inferior components as evidenced by the multitude of people complaining on the internet of the same problem as we experienced.

Quite possibly the best vehicle we have ever owned

My wife and I purchased our 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2 V6 in April, 2016. We have taken it on three road trips and just absolutely love it. Comfort, ride, visibility, power I could go on and on. I am a car guy so upkeep and cleanliness are top priority for me, this thing is put together like a Mercedes Benz. In fact, my parents liked ours so much they purchased one too. So far very pleased with product and dealer network and hope it stays that way. Note: I found no option for the Trailhawk with a 3.2 V6 so I used the 4 cylinder.

Ride and handling other suv's wish they had

My wife and I were looking to replace our 3 year old Escape with 1.6 motor. We looked at and drove several other suv's but keep coming back to the 2016 Jeep 75th Anniversary Edition with the 2.4 motor. It just felt more solid, comfortable, quite and interior was laid out better to us. We wanted to like other models more, but the Jeep just won us over. Having owned and driven many cars from around the world, the Jeep just keep being the best option for us. The ride is solid, the seats firm, but not hard and the interior is very quite, which should make it a treat for long highway trips. Looking forward to our first. The 2.4 motor has plenty of power for anything we need, equal or better acceleration than our old 1.6 turbo, and surly better fuel mileage. We were lucky to see 25 mpg with eco motor even using a light foot. The best ride and handling I've ever exeperienced was an older RR. The Jeep is the closes I've come to matching it. So far we are both extreamly pleased with the Jeep. Now the cons: the dealers lack of knowledge of the product. Navaid a $600 addition cost on a $30,000 car, supplied by the same clueless dealer. Chrysler Finanical is the least customer oriented company I've dealt with in the last 20 years, and unable to reconcile the difference between a 911 address and mailing address. My only hope is the Jeep will outshine our last plagued Chrysler vehicle, a 2006 Grand Caravan.

The perfect vehicle with one exception

2016 trailhawk 3.2v6. The one exception, infotainment. uconnect 8.5 un is a nice big screen with good layout and easy to use. However, the voice is horrible. robotics, old, very poorly executed. It cant even do the most basic thing right. Texting will test your ability to not punch the screen. After say a very BRIEF and usually wrongly translated text your present by a female giving you options, like, add to message, redo message, bla bla bla, finally it gets to where it beeps and you can say send. Why won't they give us an option to shut the system up and just automatically send the message when done talking. It's mostly translated wrong text anyway no use trying to correct it. Instead, you have to wait FOREVER to send the dang text. After replying to two or three texts your ready to rip out the system and through it out the window!! MOST ANNOYING is the AUTO ac system. it simply doesn't work!!! If it's 100 deg F in the car and you set temp to 60 you still cant even hear the fan running. the system is SO reserved in how it utilizes the ac that it's worthless. To sum it up, a perfect vehicle ruined by what could be two simple software fixes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary:

On oct. 21, 2016, while backing out of a parking space, another vehicle that had been parked behind me also backed up. our two vehicles collided - bumper-to-bumper, at a slow speed (probably 2-3 mph). very minor damage resulted - the reflector on my rear bumper was broken. i am surprised that my safety warning system did not activate to alert me to the impending collision. this system very reliably activates if i'm backing up and cross traffic is near, or if i'm approaching another vehicle while parallel parking. i'm wondering if this system has a "blind spot" that prevented it from working in the case of yesterday's collision.

The uconnect unit quit working therefore no way to adjust radio, heat, use, bluetooth, backup camera stays on when driving frontwards down road, etc. cannot use regular knobs to adjust. have now been waiting almost 2 weeks for a new radio to see if that fixes the problem. also thumping noise in the right front in when making a turn & going over a bump at same time. buying a brand new vehicle you should not have to worry about problems like this after owning it for less than 6 months.

Summary:

First of all, this is a brand new vehicle with just over 1,300 miles on it after nearly 3 months of use. the vehicle was in motion on the road with a 45mph speed limit. the transmission just shut down and i was unable to accelerate and the rpm shot up to a high level. luckily there was no one else near me on the road. i was able to limp to the side of the road. the dashboard told me to "service transmission. restart vehicle in park with vehicle at zero speed" i did this and tried to put the car in gear. the transmission made a hard clunking sound. i could still not accelerate. i had to repeat the process a few more times before the vehicle started to run normally. the car seemingly worked fine after that. even the check engine light that had turned on, was now off. the problem occurred without warning. there is no way of telling when, if at all, it will happen again so now i have to worry about it happening every time i get in my car. if i had been on a busier road, an accident could have easily happened.

Brand new car, shake and shimmy between 1st and 2nd gear, and hits hard in 4th. i have roughly 1400 miles on it. took it to local jeep dealership for service, the team claimed to fix it with a tcm flash. however, much like many others who have had the same issue, the flash did not fix the issue. extremely disappointed in jeep's ability to fix this across 3 years. this issue hold the greatest amount of complaints across 2014, 15, and now 16 model years. looking forward to exercising my states lemon law.

Summary:

We bought a 2016 jeep cherokee sport two days ago.at a 108 miles while driving up a city street. the car became very jerky, lunging forward, then went in to neutral and died. after that the car wouldn't start again. luckily there wasn't any drivers near us and we weren't on a hwy. the dealership did tow it back to their shop for repairs.after researching and finding the numerous complaints on this car and transmission of similar complaints for the past three years. most of these complaints have stated that they continued to have this problem even after several trips in for repairs of this issue. i'm terrified to get this car back. lemon law states i have to give them 3 times to fix this, but why should i have to gamble with mine and my children's safety two more times? when this manufacture has been putting these transmissions out for three years promising it's fixed with each new year release. i'm sick with concern.

Only had 262 miles on our new 2016 jeep cherokee when we started having transmission problems. at first it wouldn't reverse one day and then we couldn't get it to go past first gear while driving on the freeway. it had a strong chemical burning smell. the service transmission light came on as well as the parking light., drove it to the jeep dealer we bought it from after arguing with them over the phone. they checked it out and had to contact the factory. they ended up having it for a month and had to replace the transmission.

Summary:

While driving on highway the engine lurched forward and died in the middle of traffic, i was lucky i was not killed. called dealer and they towed it. after keeping it for weeks with no loaner, they told me the transmission had to be replaced, this is the fourth time they replaced the transmission and it is very dangerous. every other jeep owner i know has had failed transmissions. it is not safe for my kids and family. the company lies to sell cars and never fixed the problem. i owned other 2014 and 2015 of same model and they also failed and i reported it several times but they keep on selling it. dealers always lie and want to sell you a timebomb, count your blessings because the transmission is going to blow up sooner or later. i work at a jeep dealer and know first hand and most of these models are towed back with broken engines and transmissions. do not buy or recommend this car! it is dangerous and the design is bad! most the longterm magazine reviewers are liars, because real owners are unhappy with this junk. it is not a real jeep and looks terrible like a nissan juke. stay away from this garbage!

Summary:

I was approaching a dip in the roadway and a sharp left curve on a highway so i slowed down to approximately 20 mph. when i was in the turn i accelerated and the engine didn't respond. i let up on the accelerator pedal and then attempted to accelerate again. by this time i had slowed down so much that i was concerned about being struck by another vehicle from behind. for the third time i attempted to accelerate and this time the engine responded. there was no check engine, check transmission or any other warning that something was wrong. i continued to drive the vehicle at highway speeds. about 40 miles after the previous issue, i attempted to accelerate to pass a vehicle and the engine again did not respond several times. at this point a check engine light illuminated and so did a service transmission dash board indicator illuminated. i then exited the highway and stopped at a red traffic signal. when i accelerated to proceed through the now green traffic signal, the engine revved up and the car moved at a very slow speed. it seemed to me as if the transmission was "slipping" or was in a much higher gear than it should be in. i had the jeep cherokee trailhawk edition with a v6 engine flat bedded to a near by jeep dealer. this jeep had only 800(eight hundred) miles on it. i was told by the dealer that a transmission hose had not been connected properly causing transmission fluid to leak out. i feel there should have been some sort of indication that the transmission fluid had leaked out. i believe that i shouldn't find out that the transmission fluid leaked out the way i did. i feel this is a very dangerous design. when i press down on the accelerator pedal i expect to be propelled forward. i was told by the dealer that the vehicle responded as designed. they said it was a "fail safe". this vehicle is designed with no transmission dipstick to check the level of fluid

Summary:

Jeep actively markets and promotes the cherokee as towable four-wheels-on-the-ground behind motorhomes. before i purchased my 2016 jeep cherokee trailhawk in november, 2015, i confirmed by reference to the owner's manual that this was true. in february, 2016, i began to see discussions in the family motor coach association (fmca) magazine, and in the fmca website forums as to a towing issue when the jeep cherokee is towed four-on-the-ground behind a motorhome; the issue being a severe wobble in the jeep cherokee's front end--severe enough to destabilize the motorhome. jeep issued service bulletin number 08-022-16 on february 24, 2016, which not only retroactively requires an "accessory kit to enhance flat tow performance" (part no. 68321424aa), but revised the jeep cherokee's owner's manual prohibiting flat towing without this accessory. the problem is that my jeep dealer says this accessory is not available (as of march 21, 2016), and doesn't know when it will be. jeep apparently is letting their customers bear this burden alone, as i have not had any communication from jeep, and cannot find any evidence that any other jeep cherokee owner has, either. the dilemma we face is that the season for extended motorhome trips is upon us, and we are faced with two unacceptable choices: 1) cancel long-planned, expensive trips, or 2) tow our jeep cherokees without the accessory "fix" that jeep has not made available.
