When You Need To Get Nebraska License Plates

If you buy from a dealership, it will arrange your Nebraska license plates. If you buy in a private sale, you must get your plates in 30 days. When you move to Nebraska, you have 30 days to buy your new Nebraska plates and register your vehicle in the state.

If you are not a resident of the state but buy your car there, you can get temporary Nebraska license plates good for 30 days. Your title must display your out-of-state address.

To get credit for time on your plates that you have not used, you must surrender your plates within 60 days of no longer using the vehicle, and also surrender your registration.
