Depending on Your chosen configuration, the 2001 Toyota Tacoma can tow between 3,500 and 5,000 pounds, which puts it near the lower end of the pickup arms race. This fluctuates with configuration, and is held back by the fact that no V8 engine option is offered -- two of the three available are 4Cylinders. Yikes. Torque comes in at 160 to 220 lb-ft, which is again fairly low for a pickup. Maximum tongue weight ranges froM350 to 500 pounds (rule of thumb: tongue weight iS-10% of towing capacity). The payload capacity ranges from 1,373 to 2,009 pounds, which is on the low end of average. With all that said, it doesn't seem like You can haul much in Your Tacoma, but at least it tries to keep up with the big boys.
