The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu oil type and capacity iS5w-30 and 4.2 quarts. Your oil needs to be changed eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't change it, there will be problems with the engine. Having high quality oil is essential for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into issues with this fluid at some point. A normal problem is a nasty burning smell. This needs to be looked into as soon as possible or the car might explode. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. You could experience bad gas mileage. Knocking noise may show up from the engine.

The preferred oil type for a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu is SAE 5W-30 full synthetic oil. (Extreme cold temperatures can change to 0W-30.) The oil capacity for the 1.5L 4 -cylinder engine is 4.2 quarts with a dry filter. The 2.0L 4 -cylinder engine can hold 5 quarts.

The owners manual, and the manufacturer say to use 0w20 in the 1.5 turbo. The 2.0 can use 5w30. But they are suppose to be full synthetic. I use what the manual says to use.
