The Kia Sportage comes stock with a front wheel drive system. This is better in snow than a rear wheel drive system because the weight of the engine is over the drive wheels which can give it more traction in the snow. If You opt for the all wheel drive option on the Sportage then it is a better vehicle for the snow. Having all wheel drive allows the vehicle to send power to the wheels that have the most traction and that can help prevent You losing control in icy or snowy conditions. The Sportage also has decent ground clearance for a small SUV so it should be able to make it over snowy obstacles. If You plan on driving in snow frequently I recommend getting snow tires since they can give You better grip than summer tires as well.

The front-wheel drive Kia Sportage operates as most other traditional front-wheel drive vehicles in the snow except with a bit more ground clearance. If you're concerned with driving in the snow, the all-wheel drive Sportage is the best option.
