A cabin air filter was not a standard feature in the 2001 Ford Expedition. Some dealers did offer it in as an upgrade for an additional cost. There is a spot located below the dash on the passenger side that can accept a filter if it is cut into. There is a black trim cover below the glovebox held in by three screws that needs to be removed to gain access to the HVAC housing. You will need either A7mm socket or a T-20 TorxBit to remove the three screw. If a filter was installed there will be a cover plate with tabs that hold it on, if not You could buy a kit and install one Yourself, You would need to cut a hole in the housing.
