The 2012 Chevy Malibu does have a cabin air filter. It will be located behind the glove box, though some models will have it under the hood of the car connected to the climate control system. The filter is designed to keep particulate debris out of the inside of the cabin, meaning no pollen or road dust. These will need to be replaced every so often. They simply snap out and snap-in, and they are pretty cheap being around 50 dollars. The one under the hood is easy to get to, but the glove box one will need You to remove the box. It is held in place by two bolts in the back and a couple of slide clips. Simply remove the bolts and pull them out to get to the filter.

Yes. The blower is behind the glovebox. To install a filter you'll have to cut the opening where it's marked and install an appropriately sized filter. There are a few youtube videos showing the procedure for cutting the blower open and what sized cabin air filter to buy.

My 2012Chevy Malibu LT does not have a cabin air filter, but it does have a cabin air filter compartment. I know this car did not come with an air filter because my cabin air filter compartment was covered up to start with. The “Cut on Dashed line to add filter” cover was on, and I cut it off using a box cutter as instructed. Once opened, there was no filter inside. I will be adding one very soon.

No the 2012 Malibu does not have a cabin air filter , called auto zone and they told me it doesn’t . Watched a couple of videos that showed how to remove it and the glove box lid in video looks different
