Owners of the Chevy Volt have complained about the difficulty associated with closing the Volt's hood. The hood often only latches if it's dropped from several feet in the air, making closing it a safety and convenience issue. Normal closure involves releasing the cover from only 12-14" from the latch. It should engage automatically and then lock when pressed down firmly once. If the engine cover is malfunctioning, this can be due to faulty rubber bump stops or a loose latch assembly. Alternatively a common reason why the Volt's hood doesn't engage easily is due to a misaligned hood release primary cable. In these circumstances, the cable must be re-routed to allow the latch to catch properly.

Lower the support bar if you have it raised up, then you can push it down with a little force till it clicks.
