To reset the brake pad service reminder in Your BMW it is a pretty simple process. Put Your vehicle in the on position without turning on the car. Next press and hold the reset button located on the dash. Scroll to 19 to unlock, take the last 5 numbers of Your VIN and add them up and enter that number into the 00 slot on the screen. From there You will be able to access the menu and reset the values to factory settings. That should clear Your brake pad reminder, however if it does not then that is a sign that there is a continuity issue in Your pads. Your brake pads have a wear sensor on them and if that touches Your brake rotor the the brake pad lights will not go off.

I run into dumb things like this all the time in my shop. 2019 530i, customer states brake service interval light and brake lights are on. Had the vehicle at my shop a week before so I know for a fact the front and rear brakes, rotors and wear sensors are good. Tried to reset the light by holding the trip button blah, blah, blah. Unsuccessful every time. Tried all of the tricks mentioned here i.e. Shorting the connector, using a scan tool etc. Nothing worked. Started reading around with the same answers everywhere. Finally found a post where some one had to set the time and date in order to reset his light. That got me thinking about a previous repair I had done on the car about 2 months prior. I replaced the steering wheel vibration generator. I disconnected the battery to keep the air bag from exploding in my face so naturally the date and time would need to be reset. See where this is going? Make sure the date and time are set. Trust me, I wasted 4 hours trying to figure this out before I figured it out with the help of some other smart mechanics out there. Just goes to show even the best mechanics can always use another perspective to help him diagnose a problem.

To reset the BMW f30 brake unsuccessful you will turn the ignition on. Click and hold the reset button before the empty menu opens. You're expected to see FGSTNR on the list. Skip to element 19 to activate it. Lock: ON would be shown. Locate the VIN number on the door jamb or the lower left corner of the windshield. Add the last 5 digits to your VIN. You can see Code:00 below element 19. Change the code to the last 5 digits of your VIN using the Trip Reset button. When the secret menu is opened, you should be able to return the impossible values to the factory settings. Switch the ignition off and wait 10 seconds.

On my f31 2016 my sub menu 19 is DTC. Is there anyway to clear the brake message via the hidden menu?
