With a Chevy Malibu, You have two options with which You can reset the computer. You can disconnect and reconnect the battery or You can reset the fuse housed within the engine control module. Replacing the battery is as straightforward as it sounds. Simply disconnect it, set it aside for about twenty minutes and then reconnect it. If this doesnt reset the computer, Youll need to access the fuse box to reset the fuse. Follow the instructions on Your ownership manual to locate the fuseboxAnd reset the fuse. It should have a walkthrough of exactly what You have to do to reset the computer, as well as replace the PCM entirely.

Remove the positive terminal cable from the battery using needle nose pliers . Go to the fuse box, and look at the diagram. Select the fuse that is labeled "ecm" and remove this fuse.

When you replace the engine don’t u need to reset the module so it could register the new motor that you put in..

Janice R, an 8 mm box wrench works much better as needle nose plyers can damage the cable connector.

Also NEVER remove the positive! Always remove the negative whenever you're replacing parts. Cheers!
