If Your throttle body is not working properly on Your Dodge Caliber then You may need to reset it. Resetting the system is very easy to do and should only take a couple minutes and can be done while You are at home. To reset the system all You need to do is turn on the vehicle without starting the engine. After that You can just press down on the throttle pedal for ten seconds and wait until the engine light starts to blink. When that happens it is resetting the throttle body and the ECU's memory. After that You can start Your engine normally and it should be functional again.

What do you do if the engine light does not start to blink after 10 seconds?

To fix the Dodge Caliber throttle motor, you turn the vehicle on but do not start the engine. The accelerator pedal is fully depressed for 10 seconds. At this stage, the test engine light will shift to blink slowly, signaling "Erasing ECU Memory." 8. Release the accelerator pedal and shut off the ignition switch.

Replaced throttle body, cannot reset throttle body no matter how many different ways I try. Contacting a Dodge mechanic on Monday to find a definitive answer that works. :)

I have a 2012 dodge caliber the lightning bolt flashes and won't let me go over 35 mph. I have to turn it off and back on for the bolt to go away. I put in a new throttle body and replaces the gas pedal with sensor and it still does it every other day or so.

I've got a dodge 2007 caliber that has had struts replaced and steering issue fixed. Now I have the Throttle Body issue. I'm ordering a new one part number 04891735AC. I have a local garage who will fit it for about £75 an hour. They say just one hour needed if I get the part. They did say i may need to get a reset done by dodge. We do have dodge dealers in the UK but not many. Has anyone found a reset for this that you can do yourself? I'll try the 10 second one but if that fails I'll have a long drive to a dodge dealer!

It may be the case that (after turning ignition on w/engine off) you may need to hold throttle depressed all the way for 20 seconds, and then SLOWLY release the throttle and you want that release to take at least 15 to 20 seconds as well. Then just sit and wait... The lights should turn off, and then back on again perhaps even with a chyme... Once that happens, turn the key off (and wait a few seconds) then try starting the car. Hope this helps.

Johnny, the lightning bolt is your charging system not the throttle body. Lightning bolt usually means the decoupler pulley on your alternator went out. Its just easier to replace the whole alternator with one with a lifetime guarantee for the next time it happens.

For most people that change the throttle body and still have the red bolt light, in my case was the intake gasket leaking, change it and everything is fine.

Just seen you can't reset without cold air intake sensor plugged in as well before relearn.

I have a 07 dodge caliber and I have this issue as well it won’t go over 10mph to 25MPH depending on what it does and it sputters so I figured out how to make it go away for the time being just to a quick reset it. Turn key on without starting engine just until you see all the lights on your speedometer including the red lightning bolt for only 2 seconds then turn it all the way off and then turn the key on again with starting engine and press the gas pedal down all the way to floor for 10 seconds or until the lightning bolt disappears then start up engine and it should be okay for a awhile it works for me

Same problem. All this puts car into limp mode. Suppose to save the car from further damage.i have to travel at idle . 5mph.ive got a short. Key lock switch was installed by tweekers. For any reason it will go into limp mode. It's all antitheft. Stupid car.

Ihad to unplug the battery to reset everything first. Then the engine light blinks after the 10 seconds. I imagine the light should then turn off, mine stays on so I might haveother issues

Check this seeming unrelated tip: Never drive your older vehicle without having your lights on. At the intersections A program reads lights off, records an older vehicle message, targets the vehicle and the ABS and Throttle lights turn on.

It is not the throttle body ... Or any other sensor. The problem is the program...

My dodge caliber 1.8 L has the same problem. Poor acceleration and constantly falling into safety mode. After much searching it was found that there is finally a problem in the programming of the ECU. If you put the program back you will have the same again. The person who will make a completely new program must be perfectly aware of this case. The company certainly does not admit anything because the engine light does not turn on. Unlucky are those who have this problem.
