The 2017 Dodge Journey takeS5.5 quarts (5.2 liters) of SAE 5W-20 engine oil. This is a bit thinner than other varieties, but a popular choice for many engines. Dodge recommends changing this fluid in the Journey every 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever You arrive to first. However, if You live on a dirt road or have long daily commutes at low speeds, You will likely need to do it more often. Your vehicle is equipped with an oil life light that will let You know when it's time to schedule an appointment. You will need to make sure the oil life gets reset back to 100% when it's done. Usually the mechanic will handle this, but if they don't, You can do it and it only takes a few minutes. The average cost to have this maintenance work done is $140 to $160. Labor makes up about $40 to $60 of that total.

The Journey comes with two types of engine, the 4 cylinder or the 6 cylinder. To change the oil in your vehicle, you need to know which engine you have. This will determine whether you need 10W-30 for the 6 cylinder or, 5W-20 for the 4 cylinder. They each require different amounts of oil as well. The 6 cylinder needs 5.5 quarts and the 4 cylinder only needs 4.5 quarts.
