To check the transmission fluid on the 2003 Ford Explorer You will want to pull out the dipstick and see what the level indicates. If it is low You will need to add more fluid. To change the transmission fluid You will want to first make sure the car is level on the ground and then pop the hood open. Now locate the transmission fluid container, it should be on or near the transmission itself, and find the dipstick. Pull it out and wipe it clean, then put it back in and pull it back out. Note the amount of fluid it says is in there, and how much You need to put in to fill the container. Use a funnel and top of the container until it is full, or right at full. Being a smidge under is fine, but do not overfill. Now close up the container and You are good to go.

2003 ford explorers have no dipstick you have to remove the center part of the drain plug - NOT the whole plug, to see how much is in there

To check transmission fluid in a 2003 ford explorer, use the check valve that is located on the bottom of the transmission of this vehicle. This will enable you to check the transmission fluid.

This took me for a loop.Ford decided to put the fill plug for the transmission at the bottom. To check, remove the plug. The fluid level is determined by whether fluid runs out once you remove the plug. To fill the unit you must pump fluid up into the transmission. Once fluid starts run out of the hole, it's full.

Maybe you should mention what engine you have, if it's auto or standardand ifit'sa 2wd or 4wdbeforesaying if yours has a dipstick or if it is sealed. Iassumethis is thereason why there are conflicting answers. Most likely different if it's 2wd or 4wdbut it might be because of engine size. I want to buy one that might be slipping because of not enough transmissionfluid but no one is explainedit correctly

I have a 2003 Ford Explorer. It has a dipstick for the transmission. My auto manual says it does not? Just got done pulling the motor because of timing chain issues. Just thought I'd mention it. I saw some rude comments in this forum and thought it should be addressed.
