To open the Mitsubishi Outlander gas tank door You will first have to locate the fuel door release lever. It will be found next to the driver's seat on the floorboard where the seat adjustments are at. You will pull the lever upward to release the fuel door. Now You can go to the gas tank and open the gas cap by turning it in a counterclockwise motion. If the fuel door level does not work it could be a problem with the latch or the cable which will need replacement. The cost for the level will range from $25 - $45 depending on the brand and quality.

Its in the least obvious place, tiny black lever with a very subtle pump logo, on the driver's floor in the small gap between the floor mat and the door

Not helpful. Don't see release button. A picture of it and the exact location would be helpful.
To open your Mitsubishi Outlander vehicle's gas tank, locate the release button for fuel door on the driver's side of the vehicle and release. Unscrew the gas cap in a counter clockwise motion.

We found a small button with a petrol pump logo on under middle of dash.
