Simply put, yes. A number of Ford Explorers, particularly between 2014 and 2015 have been recalled because of an inherent flaw in the vehicles design. This is because there was a splitting between the door panel and the interior of the vehicle. Over time, this would lead to the door panel warping, becoming unstable and damaging the structural integrity of the vehicle. Furthermore, the Explorer was known to have faulty door trim as well, further compounding the problem. For these reasons, Ford decided to recall a large amount of Explorers, as it was deemed unsafe for public and general use.

I had my dr door panel replaced on my 2014 Explorer 3 years ago due to it splitting at the seam on the armrest. It was covered by my warranty at that time. Now this door panel is doing the exact same thing in the same place. No longer under warranty so I am responsible for the repair.

I took my ca to the dealership today to have my rear suspension toe link recall that I got a letter for in November done. I asked about the door panels and was told the recall expired 5 years or 100,000 miles whichever came first so my 2014 Explorer is no longer under that recall and they quoted me nearly $1800 to get it repaired. Forget that c**p! If it’s a known issue and they aren’t willing to fix the problem I’m certainly not paying that! Despicable way to run a business! (Yes I bought my car used...it obviously wasn’t happening when I bought it)

The 2014 and 2015 ford explorer is the vehicle in the recall notice is intended to correct splitting of the door panel and armrest and the faulty front door trim paneling. The recall is listed under customer satisfaction program 17n04.

My wife's is having the same issue. The recall expires with your warranty. Idiotic yes, as a recall exists because there is a known defect that does not just go away on a specified date. Sad because this makes me rethink owning Fords.... I have never owned anything else.

Friver's side door fixed poorly, now, it's the pass.side door panel. Sad! Recall should continue until ford alleviate this flaw!

My 2014 is doing the same. It started splitting right before the handle to grab to shut the door. Sad setup for the interior.

Help. My front door panels came unglued at the same time a year ago on my 2014 explorer! The dealers send me to a recording to leave recall info on all 6 recalls and they will call me back! Liars!

My 2015 just started on the driver’s window side. Didn’t reach out to Ford yet but the basis from what I’ve read, they aren’t much help if your warranty expired. Does anyone know how to fix it?

I have the same issue with my door. Months before my warranty ran out my dealership told me about the recall and told me they would call me when the parts were in. 3 months later when I was in the shop to have my tire pressure checked I asked about the pa January 12, 2021
Not happy with the lack of communication on this. It had only happened 2 weeks prior to them noticing it at my oil change appt. I will now look up a recall every time I have any issues

There was a recall 2-3 years ago because I got mine replaced. It was only the piece on the door that is closest to the window. The rubber on my driver side arm rest was already separating at that time and they told me that was not part of the recall.

There is a recall 17n04 but from my understanding it expired, which makes no sense.

My driver and then passenger door on my 2015 are having the same issue. Someone suggested I check for a recall and bam. It’s been like that for quite a while. Now I’m right over the 100,000k at 106,000. So I guess I’m out of luck on them honoring this.

My 2015 front Ford explorer XLT front door panels warping. I'm the 2nd owner. I had no knowledge of the recall. I call in to get help from Ford customer service. They said that I was out of the warranty date and the repairs were on me. I buy your product and loyal to your brand and you can't help me. Very sad 😔

I recently bought a 2015 Ford Explorer Sport. It has 48300 miles on it. I noticed on the passenger side window some had gotten into the door panel. For what reason I do not know . Now the top of the panel next to the window inside is all puckered up and wavy and the corner of the panel is not titting well. I asked Carmax to look at it and they say it's a normal thing to happen to Fords door panels. Such a nuisance to look at. I paid a lot of $$ for this vehicle why should it look like that. Anyone else have this issue ?

My door panels haven't had any problems yet on my 2014 Explorer limited, but the middle console material (whatever it is made out of) just started few months ago, cracking & spider webbing, looks like c**p ugh

My 2017 Explorer sport has both of the front door panels and tow hitch cover flew off randomly while on highway. Ford told me my estimate would be 1,850 US dollars. Thanks, ford! So I just drive around with all of them off.

I am having the same issue with my 2014 Ford Explorer. When my car was under warranty I asked about getting the stitching fixed and was told it would not be covered under warranty. It sounds like there was a recall at one point. Very frustrating and disappointing from a quality perspective.

Take some FLEX Glue Epoxy, tape off the area and use that on the front windshield, I did it on mine. Then the inside door panel warped, I assume due to heat... Been like that several years, got a heat gun and try to reform the panel where it will not pucker up. Good luck.. Some times you just have to do it yourself.. The FLEX GLUE ON THE WINDSHIELD IS STILL HOLDING. IT IS FLEXIBLE, BUT IT HARDENS ENOUGH TO BE A GOOD FIX...AND IT LOOKS GOOD...USE MASKING TAPE AROUND THE AREA SO THE LINES ARE STRAIGHT..

I got the recall after my driver's door started pulling away. Got it fixed per the recall. About a year later the passenger side door did the same thing but it is NOT covered by the recall. That is BS. They knew it was an issue. They should have fixed all of them.
