P1299 isn't a great code to see on the Ford Escape. Then again -- is any fault code good That's why they're called fault codes! But what You're looking at is caused by a cylinder head temperature sensor detecting an engine overheating condition. This can be caused by a number of different factors, but the most common are a defective thermostat, low engine coolant, or a faulty radiator fan. You may also be looking at a defective cylinder head temperature sensor, or one that is open or shorted. If the electrical connection to the sensor is poor, You can also get this code in error. Keep a close eye on Your engine temperature under normal operating conditions, and proceed with the diagnostics and fixes that You feel are necessary.
