The system check message on Your Ford Focus is a reminder to let a mechanic or dealership inspect the ECU and install any updates that have been released for it. If You have done that and they did not turn off the light it is pretty easy to do that. All You will need to do is first turn the vehicle on without the engine running. Once You have done that press the gas and brake pedals all the way down at the same time. You will need to hold them there for about 20 seconds. When they have been held down long enough the light on the dash will flash and turn off indicating that the system has been reset.

To reset the system check message on a ford focus place the vehicle in on and then hold down the gas and brake for 20 seconds and it will reset the indicator on the dash.

I’ve done the “hold gas and brake for 20 seconds while in accessory position” thing, and the LCD display showed the “oil reset in progress” message(and indicated it was complete), but now that little display only shows the System Check information screen and I cant seem to navigate out of there (back to the screen showing MPG, trip counter, etc) with the “OK” or arrow controls. How do I get out of that??

You will need to take the car to the dealer as you will need a tool to interface with the car.
