The BMW 5 Series is known for a smooth and luxurious ride, largely due to the air suspension with which it is equipped. The air suspension, on the other hand, is also the cause of headache for many BMW enthusiasts; with great power comes great responsibility. In this case, the responsibility is a number of repairs and maintenance items that You wouldn't otherwise have. For example, the self-leveling suspension air compressor is known to fail, and will set You back upwards of $225 for a replacement -- closer to $450 if You want it installed. The self-leveling suspension air springs are another point of failure, and those will cost You $120 for a pair. Even the air supply valve has failure issues, and while $75 pales in comparison to some of the other suspension components, it's still not a cheap and easy fix for something the size of a golf ball. Overall, Your 5 Series will give You a lot of joy, but the air suspension will also give You a lot of issues.

If your bmw 5 series sags in the rear you most commonly have a leak in your air suspension.
