The Lexus RX350's park assist is a great and useful feature, right up until the time that it isn't. Each time a manufacturer introduces a new piece of technology, it introduces another vector for failure. And fail it will, Your parking assist. More than likely, You'll experience some problems; most drivers online report that they have. The most common failure in the park assist is, by far, the sensors. Since these are exposed to the elements, they're often the first thing to go. Luckily, they're also pretty easy to swap; the job will take You an hour or two to complete, and You can find aftermarket parts on Amazon for less than $40. If You want to stay OEM, the sensor will cost You about $250 or more from the dealer, and installed can run You up to $700.

If the Lexus RX 350 IS having issues with the parking sensor then it will not be able to detect nearby objects and IS not safe to rely on.

Yes. I bought my RX from Price LeBlanc in Baton Rouge, LA and brought it back within a week because the sensors were not working properly, The test they ran said they were working. The same day I hadThe an appt with the technology tech to set up my phone and explain the tech aspects. I had her stand in front of my car to prove I could have run over her and the auto brake did not ingage. No one would listen at the dealer and I was told to contact LEXUS and I did. A week later I hit a 32" stack of pavers (left fender) no sensor sounded. Lexus sent a consultant from an engineering firm to my home to reenact the accident. He asked to back my car out of my garage and he damaged the right side of my 6 week old RX350. And Yes, the sensors again did not sound. The appoinment that day was to bring to the nearest Toyota dealer (Pensacola FL) and have them check the problem. The report came back that everything was working. The test showed this because they took the recorder that records accidents at only a certain speed (15MPH) and it showed nothing because the accidents occured at a much slower pace! Lexus had nothing but opened case after case with no help whatsoever. I was left to negotiate with this engineering company to get my car repaired which took months. I have finally had my car repaired and when the body shop hired the calibration expert ...the front sensors will not calibrate. I have spoken to the calibration tech for this company and he has shed some light into the problem that I asked my dealer from the get go. The original problem was that YES the sensors work...and everytime the test will be done they will pass! The real issue is the angles that the dealer and the engineering company did not measure and that is why I could run over small objects and the consultant can almost knock the side of my garage down! Now I have called Price LeBlanc back to tell them and thought it should be warranty and they say it isn't due to body work. I will never deal with Price LeBlanc again nor willI buy another Lexus. I have been a customer of Lexus for almost 35 years and have driven almost every model they offer through these years. Evidently Price LeBlanc through these years has changed management also. No customer service like it used to be...now they are just like any other dealer. I have a granddaughter 12 years old whom I took once to have my car repaired and we were treated so nice that she told me that when she got a car she was getting a Lexus! Things have surely changed.
