SLE as it relates to a GMC Terrain stands for "Special Luxury Edition", which You might recognize as a bit of empty marketing speak, given this tends to actually be the standard package. The other package that is offered on the Terrain is the SLT, which actually is a little bit more special... As You'd hope, given it's $3k more, at $32k vs the $29k of the SLE trim. Features of the SLT missing in the SLE include hands-free power liftgate, LED fog lamps, an 8-inch infotainment center (an inch bigger than the SLE's), roof side rails, remote start, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel. Now, granted, You can add all but the LED fog lamps, hands-free power lift-gate and heated steering wheel as features to the SLE, but then, You might as well just get the SLT at that point. The other huge difference here, though, is the SLT allows an upgrade from the 1.5L Turbo 4Cylinder that comes standard to a 2.0L turbo; that's not available at all on the SLE.

The "sle" for a gmc terrain means "special luxury edition". This is a higher trim level that will have more features over the base model.
