Toyota is a brand known for producing long lasting trucks and SUVS, the Highlander is no exception here. Many owners of this vehicle have been able to get up to and passed the 300,000 mile mark without needing major repairs such as the engine or transmission rebuilt. In order to get Your vehicle to this mark You will need to be on top of the required maintenance intervals. If You have an older modELRunning on conventional oil it will need to be changed out every 3,000 to 5,000 miles while newer models running on synthetic or synthetic blend will only need to be changed out every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. You should be takeng Your vehicle in for a tune up once every 12 to 18 months.

I have a 2003 Toyota Highlander. I bought it 3 years ago for $4000 or $5000. Think it had about 210,000 miles. Now it has 265,000. Still the best purchase I ever made. It’s had minor issues this past summer. I replaced the AC. It had issues When I bought the car and the dealership fixed it. Finally needed to be replaced when it crapped out the beginning of this summer. I can’t live with out AC in western Ma lol. Other then that I’ve had regular wear and tear. IE- breaks, rotors, oil changes and tranny flushed every 50,000 or so miles and of course tires. Also replaced so belts. January of this year (2020) I lost function of the back windows from the drivers seat. They’ll do down but not up unless I use the buttons in the back. Nothing to serious though. I’ll drive this beast to the ground. I plan on buying another one but a lot newer. This was my first SUV purchase. I’ll never go back to a car/sedan. Ever! Lol I’m hoping I’ll get at least 300,000 miles on it. That’s why I came to this page actually, to see how long others had lasted. I see my suv everywhere, same year I mean. So that’s always a hint that you have a trustworthy vehicle.

I have a 2003 highlander that I purchased brand new in 2002 and now it has almost 186,000 miles. No issues at all. Just routine services, oil changes every 5k miles, tires, brakes and rotors, transmission, coolant, power steering, and brake fluid at 90k miles intervals. Replaced timing belt, drive belts, thermostat, water pump, spark plugs 2x every 90,000 miles. Car runs great, its like new again.

We still have our 2002 Highlander which we purchased in 2007. 175,000 miles. We have it serviced regularly but have not had any major issues. It is starting to chew up oil on long trips. I suppose that's to be expected.

First generation highlander is unbelievable! Some burn oil but I know a fix. It's the rear valve cover! Once and awhile there's a generation of models that just run great and never need major repairs...the corolla for example, now it's the highlander. I have an 02 that will hit the 400k mark soon, I think its 388 000 now, but seriously a great car all around, and I abuse my work cars! I would buy another one for sure....

My father has a 2005 2wd 4 cylinder that just turned 300,000 miles and still runs & looks great. Never had any problems, just normal routine maintenance. He claims that he has never had a transmission service (I know that's crazy). Yeah,he just told me that a few weeks ago.

We have a 2005 Toyota Highlander with 309,000+ miles on it. Looks and runs GREAT. Nothing has ever gone wrong with it, only routine maintenance, and radiator replacement late last year. Am hoping for her to last a couple more years, before I get a new one of the same model and make. Hands down the BEST car ever.

2008 Highlander Hybrid Limited, purchased with 150K, has 289K on it now. Smooth sailing with regular maintenance (fluids, filters, tires, pads/rotors, tires). Most expensive repairs were some exhaust and struts replacement. Debating whether to replace it with an EV or keep on driving.

I have a 2004 V6 Toyota Highlander, Ibkught it used in 2015 with 223,000 miles n it recently reached 400,000 miles! I love my Highlander! I recently changed the A/c n have the common issue of the back passenger window getting stuck going up. I drive it daily in rural Texas with no issues! Getting ready to change the timing belt as part of preventative maintenance. I have never changed it as car runs great!

Based on reported use experiences, the toyota highlander is one of the few vehicles where almost 20% of original owners are still driving it after 15 years. It's reported that the vehicle can last well beyond 300,000 miles will routine maintenance.

I’ve heard people put 500K miles on that car. According to Toyota forums on google, the lifespan of Highlander is around 350K miles with parts replacement in time and proper vehicle maintenances.

I have a 2003 Toyota Highlander that I purchased brand new in 2003 and now has almost 200k miles. This vehicle runs great - no issues at all. Just routine service maintenance: oil changes every 3k miles; coolant flush and transmission fluid drain, flush and replace every 15k miles; brake fluid, power steering fluid flush and replace every 30k miles; replaced timing belt, water pump, spark plugs and drive belts at 95k miles intervals; always replace brake pads when they're 1/4 left so the rotors didn't have to be resurfaced.
