There is sometimes confusion between resetting the battery on Your Ford F-150 and having it relearn. To reset the Battery Management System (BMS) (which basically tries to detect if there's a drain on it and temporarily disable whatever electrical systems might be causing that) You have to do ... Nothing. That's right. Nothing. Or, specifically, 8 hours of it. After You've replaced the battery in the F-150, the system requires eight hours of vehicle "sleep" time, in which Your vehicle is fully locked and the ignition is switched off. So, basically, just park it, and let it sit overnight. Now, for a battery relearn, switch the ignition on, with the engine off. Pull and release the high beaM5 times. Press and release the brake pedal 3 times. If You've done this correctly, the battery light will flasH3 times within 15 seconds of completion.
I changed my battery in my 2013 ford f150. I turned my ignition on, with my engine off. I pulled and released the high beam 5 times then pressed and released the brake pedal 3 times. Instead of the battery light coming on and blinking 3 times within 15 seconds The engine light came on and blinked 3 times. Is that a problem ?

Disconnect the negative battery cable and turn on the headlight switch for about 30 seconds, turn off headlight switch and reconnect the battery cable, this put the ecm back to factory default settings.

I've done the high beam and brake pedal thing and my engine light flashes3 times not my battery light
Need to change our battery in 2013 ford f150 with BMS system. The comment about disconnecting negative battery cable and turn headlight switch on for 30 seconds, is that after you've replaced the battery and let sit for 8 hours or more?

This is such a dumb problem to have. Why has there never been a clear answer to fixing the issue of a ford not starting after just replacing the battery in it? Let it sit for 8 hours is a ridiculous answer. There's no way it should take 8 freaking hours for the truck to relearn a new battery....

Disconnecting the negative cable and turning on the headlights for 30 seconds and reconnecting the negative cable accomplished the reset.

21 f150 will go into deep sleep mode if it has been serviced and someone disconnects the battery. If they don't let it sit for 8 hrs you will soon have issues with ford pass. I've had to do this everytime I've gotten my vehicle back from Ford for a unrelated issue. Both times they un hooked the battery while working on the apim. About one to two weeks after I would leave my truck sit for like three hours and it would go into deep sleep mode. This is the only fix I've found. Disconnect the battery reconnect and let sit for 8hrs locked untouched. Smh what a pain
There is no ignition to turn on or off on my 2015 F-150 Platinum. There is a key in the key fob but that only opens the door. There is no key hole in the vehicle. All of the reset procedures I have seen refer to turning the ignition switch on, flashing lights, pressing brakes, then turning the ignition switch off. How would I turn the ignition switch on/off?

The BMS reset procedure is accomplished by letting the vehicle sit with doors locked for at least 8 hours. The relearn procedure is warming up the engine to normal operating temperature, letting it idle for at least 1 minute, and then driving the vehicle for at least 10 miles under different speed conditions.

I know this sounds crazy but if your 2015-2022 has that little number pad next to the steering wheel, you can do the same to bypass the 8 hour timer. With no key in ignition, open driver door. Now insert 1234##2 into the pad. Close the door, and start your truck. You're welcome. My buddy works at Ford and he just saved me with this little trick after replacing my battery myself.

On my 2019 5.0l super crew all I did was 1 change the battery 2 pull and release the high beams five times 3 push and release the brakes 3 times The battery light will flash on and off within 15 secs.
