The 2015 Subaru Forester uses SAE 5W-30 oil. Subaru recommends that You use synthetic oil whenever You need to change it. There are two main types of oil on the market these days, conventional and synthetic. Conventional is an older petroleum based option, and synthetic is newer and engineered to give You better wear performance and longer life. This means with synthetic You should only need to change Your oil every 7,500 miles compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. I recommend checking Your oil alt least once a month to make sure that it is full and free from debris or signs of burning that can degrade the quality.

The recommended engine oil for the 2015 Subaru Forester 2.0XT models is a 5W-30 viscosity and synthetic oil. The recommended engine oil for the 2.5i models is a 0W-20 viscosity and synthetic oil.

The Subaru Forester's owner's manual calls for the use of 0W-20 synthetic motor oil. Conventional 0W-20 is acceptable if synthetic is unavailable. If 0W-20 is unavailable, 5W-30 or 5W-40 may be used for replinishement, provided 0W-20 is used for the next oil change.
