The only recommended transmission fluid for the 2010 Nissan Maxima is Genuine Nissan CVT Fluid NS-2. Any other type of fluid could damage the CVT transmission. You should inspect transmission fluid level at least once a month if not more often. To check the fluid level, open the hood by pulling the hood release lever in the passenger compartment and then releasing the hood latch and lifting the hood up. The transmission dipstick is located on the driver's side of the engine. And You will need a flat blade screwdriver to remove it from the tube. Stick the screwdriver into the slot on the front side and pry up a little bit, now put the screwdriver under the bottom of the tab and lift. The fluid level should fall between the MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick.
