The cabin air filter in a 2012 Chevy Avalanche can be found behind the glove box in Your dash. To access it You will need to remove the glove box. The first thing to do is open the glove compartment and then remove the bump stops from the side of it that hold it in place when it is open. This will allow it to hang all the way down. After it is hanging You can remove the plastic panel behind it. This will give You access to the cabin air filter. You can slide that filter directly out and then replace it with a new one. You should check Your cabin air filter at least twice a year to make sure it is free from excessive dust buildup.

The 2012 Chevy avalanche air filter is under the hood inside a rectangular cold air collector box that's located up near the front of the engine compartment.
