The PCV valve in Your Chevy Sonic vehicle is responsible for controlling crankcase gases and is often found at the valve cover, between the crankcase air outlet and the intake manifold. Essentially, a PCV valve controls emissions ” it takes the gases produced by the crankcase and routes them back into Your engine's combustion chambers to be safely burned without harming Your vehicle or the environment. This prevents the crankcase from developing engine-damaging oil sludge. If You need to drive a couple miles to get the parts needed then plug the vacuum side of PCV line and it may be okay to drive a short distance since running longer than this may cause the pressure to build up in the crankcase and cause oil leaks and engine will run lean or rich without a properly functioning PCV system.
