The P0011 code on the Chevy Malibu usually indicates a problem with the variable camshaft timing device. In most cases the car will run without trouble. A camshaft is a rotating object” usually made of metal” that contains pointed cams, which converts rotational motion to reciprocal motion. Camshafts are used in internal combustion engines (to operate the intake and exhaust valves), mechanically controlled ignition systems and early electric motor speed controllers. The camshaft is critical to the basic function of an engine. Comprised of two distinct parts, the cams and the shaft, the camshaft is the element that enables valves to open. As the shaft rotates, the egg-shaped cams (or "lobes") push the valves open in sync with the crankshaft gear.

The p0011 code indicates your Chevy Malibu is experiencing wiring problems in the intake control valve solenoid system and you should seek diagnosis from a reliable auto repair shop.
