The 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, like many other GM vehicles, uses a fuel filter that's integrated with the fuel pump inside of the gas tank. That means that it's not considered a "user serviceable" part, and it's not really even meant to be swapped by a professional mechanic. In fact, the process for replacement is quite complex, and includes dropping the gas tank and disconnecting several fuel lines. The only time that You'll meaningfully need to replace the fuel filter is when You swap out the fuel pump, if needed. Since it's integrated, the equipment is closely related and will come out together. However, service of the fuel filter itself is not required or even recommended at certain mileages.

Mine is in the tank with the pump. If you follow the fuel lines and don't see one on the frame then it is in the tank. If it were an in line it would be very easy to spot.
I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado and I can't find it either. I called three auto part stores and they all told me that the filter is not service able. This means that it is in the tank and I will need to replace the fuel pump with the filter.
