If You're looking for the cabin air filter on Your Ford Explorer, then I have some good news for You. Your 2003 Ford Explorer actually does not come equipped with a replaceable cabin air filter. What Your vehicle actually has is a non serviceable plastic mesh that performs the same function as the air filter. So, instead of worrying about when to replace the cabin air filter, You already have one preinstalled that You don't need to spend money on. The purpose of Your cabin filter if You don't already know is to keep clean, fresh air flowing in Your cabin. Without out, pollutants will enter the cabin area.

In the 2003 ford explorer, the cabin filter is located behind the glovebox and it has a housing cover it.
