If the trunk on Your Honda Civic opens by itself then there is usually a problem with the latch. When the latch is loose then vibrations and bumps in the road can cause the trunk to pop open. If You have had Your trunk open while driving the first thing to do is check the latch assembly. IAlso recommend trying the lock. Press the lock button on Your fob while the trunk is closed and see if that helps it. If it does then locking Your car while driving can be a good temporary solution to the problem. If You do need to replace the latch assembly it is fairly easy to do and not too expensive.

I have a 2020 Honda Civic that I just bought and I also am dealing with the trunk opening and causing the alarm to go off at random times! Has anyone had luck yet figuring out what is causing this!! Thanks!!

The trunk on the honda civic will open on its own when the spare key fob is being stored too closely to the trunk

Numerous complaints on this issue for which Honda will not accept responsibility so far This inaction on Honda’s part to recall a lousy Fob design will preclude me from buying Honda again

The cause was the wiring harness at the trunk release on driver side door. The conductors going into the harness had corroded a bit and the un-insulated part of the wires were touching through vibrations. I isolated the wires from each other and put an anti-oxidative paste on them. It's been good since! A quick check for this issue would be to tap or bump the driver door panel and listen for the trunk release. Good luck! Hope this helps someone out there!

8 times at the dealership for this problem, 2 times they kept my car for 4-5 days and it didn't happen, of course! But 18 months later I still have the same problem and I'm not the only one. I own a 2020 Civic ... No corrosion at all !

Low key fob battery. I’ve had this problem, the trunk kept randomly opening and the alarm kept going off and as soon as I changed the battery it was fine

I fixed my issue...it was the button on the outside of the trunk. The one to open it without the fob. It was damp inside and slightly corroded. I replaced it. Super easy to replace and fairly cheap. I'm good to go now!!

Check the trunk button on the door .. May need cleaning and may be sticking and triggering the trunk to open. Careful not to spill liquids near this button.
