Good First Car
Good for road trips and long expeditions. Has a good amount of room for lugging around equipment (scuba, ski, golf, etc). So far its been very reliable, I've only had one hiccup as of yet. Considering it's 11 years old, its still a beautiful car. Its also quite quick all things considered. 8 out of 10 would highly recommend.

Transfer Case is Worst Case
This 2009 BMW X3 is the second X3 we have owned. It has the ///M Sport Package. Basically it has a sports car ride and suspension, the motor performance is the same; 3.0 liter i6 with 260 hp, but surprisingly torquey because of the final differential geared at 3.73:1. It rides like a sports car, feeling every pebble in the road. Speed bumps in parking lots become a nuisance. It shines on mountain canyon roads though. If you enjoy scenic country drives in the comfort of a solid SUV that can handle like an M3, look no further. We took this vehicle on a driving vacation from California to the Columbia River Gorge to Banff Canada to Canton Ohio to Quebec Canada and Prince Edward Island to Nashville Tennessee to North Platt Nebraska to Yellowstone Wyoming to Lake Tahoe and back to San Jose California. A full 7 weeks of driving - I had to buy a set of tires while in Nebraska, but the X3 performed flawlessly. The GPS is a true satellite GPS, so in areas where we had zero cell phone reception, the X3’s GPS always had us pinpointed with full maps and never got us lost. We drove with full confidence no matter where we were. The trip was a memory of a lifetime. The only real problem with my particular vehicle is the transfer case. I’ve replaced the servo motor (or repaired the cheap nylon gear), replaced the fluid ($60 for a quart) even had the whole transfer case replaced with a new genuine BMW assembly (just shy of $4000) and it went bad after just 9k miles. The story that I keep hearing is when BMW wanted to open a factory in South Carolina, the catch was they MUST include American parts in the deal. So General Motors does the transmission and transfer case. Piece of c**p GM parts keep failing. I don’t drive the this X3 very hard, in fact, I usually set the cruise control around the speed limit and let everyone pass me. Oil changes are often using genuine BMW 5W30 oil if available or premium full synthetic otherwise. New filter every time. Meaning: for as well as I care for my cars, the transfer case is a clear design flaw. BMW should have solve the problems (via GM) and offer a full recall. Yeah, it’s THAT BAD.

Great utility vehicle: Very reliable, nice driving performance SUV .
Nice driving, fairly roomy vehicle. At about 125,000 miles the water pump broke which was a somewhat costly repair, at 130,000 miles I replaced the shocks. Car continues to operate very well and am happy with the overall performance and utility of the vehicle.

I really like the heated seats and heated steering wheel.
I love driving the car, but it has had many problems and has cost us a lot of money in repairs. Some things that are wrong with the car the service people cannot even figure out what is wrong. Comfort is just ok. There is always something going wrong with it and it is not reliable.

Best car for cruising and driving around!!
The car is great. The stereo is perfect and the seats are clean. There are some wear and tear on the tires but I would still confidently give it a 8.5/10... Nothing too serious. The steering is a little heavier than most cars and it does not do too well with gas. It takes 91 and I am usually filling up to $65 every 11 days depending on how much I drive. It is on average a 16 miles per gallon trip.

The small and mighty BMW X3 SUV
I love the power and pick up of the SUV. Also the size... Not too large not too small. It's easy to handle, good turning radius and is comfortable. I love the little extras such as the iPod plug in, heated front and rear seats, and heated steering wheel.
