It is large enough for my needs but small enough to park easily. The back up camera is helpful. It drives well and is comfortable for driver and passengers. It is visually appealing. It has generally run well without any catastrophic issues. I enjoy the electronics that are available in this vehicle including seat heaters, automatic windows, push button start, electric seat adjustments, etc.
BMWs are classically expensive to repair: parts and labor can be expensive. They are also known to be expensive to maintain requiring more expensive fuel and oil. I have had a few issues with the electronics, which is not completely surprising given the age of my vehicle and the fact that I bought it used. The wheels are also an unusual size limiting my tire options and making purchasing tires more expensive. It is an all-wheel-drive vehicle which is a pro for driving, especially in weather. However it is a con when you have to replace a tire due to puncture, as you have to replace all four.
The 2012 BMW X3 has an average owner rating of 4.50 out of 5 which ranks it #3 of 8 other Luxury Compact SUVs.
