BMW x3 2018 review: the perfect in-between luxury vehicle.
Amazing vehicle. I like how the car looks bigger when sitting inside than how it looks from the outside. The panoramic roof really adds to the bigger look of the vehicle. My absolute favorite aspect of this vehicle is the technology. Any small or huge accommodation you might have, this car provides for you. Great gas consumption.

My car is super and I love this so much.
The main issues with the BMW x3 have caused recalls of the car, and show the safety issues prevalent in this type of car. The first recall affecting the BMW x3 is the loss of brake assist and the vacuum pump lubrication failing to work properly. I love my car.

The dash leather on the x3 m40i is surprisingly nice.
Problems are engine oil leaks (valve cover & gasket),sunroof rattle and leak and timing chain guide failure.BMW x3 features and specs at car and driver. Great, comfortable, classy, and sharp car!
This car is very spacious and comfortable. It is classy, makes a statement, but is definitely not over the top. I enjoy the features that it has, I like the color (mine is maroon), but what I like the most is that it is super easy to drive. I am not a very experienced driver and this car is very friendly and comfortable.

It is very expensive to fix and if you can afford it is a nice luxury to have.
I like my car and it's nicer than the newer models. The only thing I dislike is its not an electric car and would like to change it sometime soon. Gas is getting too expensive.

Smooth driving car with great features.
It drives very smoothly and is very comfortable to sit in even for long drives. The projection of your speed above the steering wheel is very helpful to stay within the speed limits. The car also does very well on gas and does not need to be refilled very often.

BMW does not compare to Audi .. The car was delivered with inside and outside scratches, not sure what is their quality control process. May expect that from a non-premium car not BMW

Don’t recommend diesel
I have a 2015 X3 d28 and I absolutely love how the car drives and handles. However, I am very disappointed with the reliability. I bought the car used in 2018 and have had the car for a year. The engine light has come on 3 times, for the particulate sensor (extended warranty), fuel injectors, and NOx sensor (not covered in Canada). I have spent thousands of dollars. ?

We'll be summarizing this article from the New York times,
BMW sedans have largely lost the dual-personality demeanor that made them both fun to drive and luxurious to own, but the x3 still captures most of the magic. The 2020 x3 delivers strong acceleration, agile handling, and premium interior finishes that make it one of car and driver's favorites in a dense field of compact luxury crossovers. X3 30i models with the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder strike a smart balance between power and fuel economy. Stepping up to the 382-hp m40i version turns the x3 into a seriously quick crossover.

Glitch in cruise control
Love the looks of the car and handling on city streets and highways. What I’m concerned about is the glitch in cruise control. There is a fix that they put out but you need to deactivate the distance sensor. Messages advising “reduced driver assistance” pop up about every 30-45 minutes and 2-4 notifications show up. This would be a problem if you wanted to sell or trade in the vehicle in the future.

Do your research before buying one.
I like the performance. The fuel economy is weak. The dealership was uncaring in retrospect.

Standard BMW - fun to drive.
I love the feel of a BMW and it corners beautifully. Like all BMWs, the upkeep is excessive and you have to constantly maintain the car. It does not have all the bells and whistles I am accustomed to, but I got a better price-point without those items and that is just personal preference. I would prefer the screen on the console was smart and touchable vs. Using the dial. That is my biggest complaint.

What Do Critics Say About the BMW X3?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2018 BMW X3 is one of the best driving compact SUVs on the market, with good owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the 2018 BMW X3 at 4.2/5, enjoying the powerful engine choices for a small SUV, but doesn’t like that it doesn’t have Android Auto.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the 2018 X3 a 4.4/5, praising the sport suspension on curvy roads, but owners don’t like the lower fuel economy than some competitors.

What Common Problems Does the 2018 BMW X3 Have?

Common problems found on the 2018 BMW X3 include premature brake wear, the engine shutting down while driving, along with excessive noise from the suspension. Overall, these problems are average for a small luxury SUV, although repairs are expensive due to the high parts and labor costs.

Premature brake wear is the most widespread complaint on the 2018 BMW X3, showing up at around 20,000 miles. The front brake pads in particular tend to wear down quickly, leading to metal-on-metal grinding. Changing out the brake pads costs around $450, depending on local labor rates, and a new set of rotors is around $900 if they are damaged.

The engine shutting down while driving also shows up on some 2018 X3 models at roughly 10,000 miles. Usually, the problem is caused by an issue with one of the engine sensors, which can cause the ECU to shut down the engine. Diagnosing the source of the problem costs around $200, while fixing any issues can cost $100 to $1,200, depending on the failed sensor.

Excessive noise from the suspension has also been mentioned by 2018 BMW X3 owners at around 40,000 miles. The shocks tend to wear out quickly, and make a lot of noise when driving over rough roads. Replacing the shocks fixes the problem, and costs around $800, depending on local labor rates.

There are nine recalls on the 2018 BMW X3, which is worse than some other compact luxury SUVs. The most serious recall is for insufficient coating on the rear brake caliper pistons, which can reduce braking performance. BMW will replace the coating on affected models for free. Other recalls cover the instrument panel, backup camera, along with the seats, which BMW will also fix for free.

How Long Will the 2018 BMW X3 Last?

A well-maintained 2018 BMW X3 can last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than some other small luxury SUVs like the Lexus NX. Regular annual maintenance costs are more expensive than the competition, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $1,018 per year.

As a used 2018 BMW X3 reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the trailing arm for $225, a blower motor costing $500, and the water pump which costs $950.

Yes very reliable with no problems. Never had a problem. Drive to school for 41/2 hours and never any problems with it

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is good, offering a standard 6.5-inch central display screen with BMW’s iDrive software. Optional upgrades include a larger 10.3-inch touchscreen along with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Standard safety technology is fairly basic for a luxury SUV, only offering a rearview camera and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Surround-view parking camera
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Front traffic alert
  • Lane keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Front cross traffic alert
  • Automatic high beams
  • Parallel park assist

Is the 2018 BMW X3 a Good Value?

Yes, the 2018 BMW X3 is a good value if you’re looking for a small luxury SUV with decent driving dynamics too. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $24,500 to $46,400, making it more than an Acura RDX or Lincoln MKC. When new, the price range was $42,650 to $54,500. Depreciation is similar to other luxury SUVs, losing about 12% of its current value per year.

The Audi Q5 is another small luxury SUV which is available in the same price range. The standard all-wheel drive system on the Audi Q5 is better in the snow, while the BMW X3 offers more responsive steering. We recommend the BMW X3, although both are worth test driving to see which you prefer.

The base BMW x3 features a 248-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The x3 m40i comes with a 382-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine. I really enjoy my vehicle. I have not had any problems since I started driving my x3. I love the space inside and the smooth feel when driving on any road. I love the difference between sports mode and normal and the speed is something I have not experienced when driving other vehicles. My experience with the x3.
Car drives well and is reliable. I feel like the longer I had the car (which is less than 3 years) it doesn't quite drive the same. I felt the car had awesome traction when I first got it and felt very heavy which was good. Now the car feels a little wobbly. Not sure if it's a tire issue but it drives differently now. Overall I would still recommend it as it is a reliable vehicle. A good entry level luxury car.

It needs to have its tires replaced pretty often. But it is performance is fantastic! I love the three modes you can choose between. It is super reliable unlike our van. It does require the expensive gas tho. It is super comfortable and the skylight is a hit with my family.

The interesting part of this vehicle is you could pick the sound of the engine.
This vehicle is very comfortable to sit in and has great technology features. The only problem is when you start the engine, it makes a big sound. I believe this vehicle will be ideal for young male adults to impress their partner. Lastly, it plays great music on the car.

Runs smoothly
I think that the car has a powerful engine and runs smoothly. 5 star

Luxury car feel, yet comfortable.
Car is very reliable. Have had no service issues. Love the “luxury” feel of it with many sensors, heating steering wheel and seats. Good navigation system-takes a little bit for the system to get used to your voice. The only thing I wish it had was remote control start.

BMW x3: luxury - small but mighty.
The BMW x3 is comfortable, sporty, big enough to feel roomy but small enough to feel swift and maneuverable. It has had no issues in the year and half I have had it, I have only had to go to the dealership for one tire fill up in the winter, one oil change and one recall related to the back up camera that was not something that was impacting me. I love the heated seats and steering wheel and the impact sensors. The only thing I do not like is having to put in premium gasoline but I do it because I want this car to run like a dream for years and years and years.

BMW x3. Best choice for anyone.
I do not notice any problem. The performance of my vehicle is quite awesome. I feel comfort to drive for all my vehicle's features. I know that if any problem in any vehicle of this series then service is provided by only 24 hours. For this reason I cannot see any negative reviews in this series of vehicles. In general purpose this is the best choice I think.

A capable car, the BMW x3 offers a good mix of luxury and sportiness.
I like that the car has a well-footed handling, quite roomy, authoritative powertrains, fuel-efficient engines but some of the cons are auto stop/start could be less jumpy. Also the car does not have an android auto, the interior is not as luxurious than its rivals.

X3 - drive it, you'll love it, I know I did!
Love the drive and accessibility features. Excellent handle, seamless integration, comfortable seats. Would love more trunk space, but it is adequate. CarPlay is nifty and convenient, as is keyless go features. Also pleasantly taken with the paint job, lovely color.

Gas efficient V4 Turbo BMW, but lack of BMW sporty used to have
It has enough power for v4 turbo. Gas mileage is ok. It is not as comfortable as bigger X5. It is sporty but not as good as BMW used to be

I like this. It was very nice.
Vehicle problem is a warning light shows, poor fuel economy, dead battery, flat tires, vehicle performance is very excellent. Vehicle performance is the study of the motion of a vehicle. The motion of any vehicle depends upon all the forces and moments that act upon it. Vehicle performance is BMW. Vehicle comfort and features is very nice & very strong.

It is a better one that I can really rely upon. I like it very much.
It has extended space, better fuel system, best reliability, and brand new standard design. But the problem is it cannot afford best internal accessibility. It can provide a lot of features as it can be washed in a simplified way, good at speed, good temperature provider, has awesome model and color that is satisfying to me. Problem arises only to have a good view internally.

2019 BMW x3 review. The SUV you need to own!
I enjoy driving this vehicle! It is performance is excellent and the handling is very responsive. The comfort level is very good, as I usually drive for 6+ hours in complete comfort during long road trips. The navigation could be better, but overall this car is a great experience to drive.

Do your research before buying one.
I like the performance. The fuel economy is weak. The dealership was uncaring in retrospect.

Tight handling, great service
I had a small issue with the AC but it is being fixed. The service department is amazing, the come and pick up my car and give me a loaner when I need service. The handling is tight. The brakes are sensitive. I feel safe in this car. It hugs the road even though it is a large SUV. I love all the features inside including apple carplay and touch screen display.

Reliability..
Love everything about my X3 except radio reception . Almost as if they forgot to connect the antenna with the radio .?????

It is very expensive to fix and if you can afford it is a nice luxury to have.
I like my car and it's nicer than the newer models. The only thing I dislike is its not an electric car and would like to change it sometime soon. Gas is getting too expensive.
