Alex Showalter
May 23, 2023

The 2017 Buick Enclave lasts around 250,000 miles with some average brake and steering issues reported. At $17,725 to $29,590, it’s a great value for a three-row midsize SUV with some nice interior materials.

The suspension is very smooth on rough roads, there’s plenty of passenger room and the cargo space is large.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Fuel economy is worse than other SUVs, the engine is not very powerful and the stereo system is frustrating to use.

Is the 2017 Buick Enclave a Good Used SUV?

It is a very comfortable ride. Not too bad on gas.
Buick?s are luxurious. It is smooth to ride in and easy to drive. I love the little added features that it has.
accountCircle Jennifer M
It needs to be taken care of, regular oil changes.
I love that my vehicle has the same room as a minivan but the sleek look of an SUV. I also like that I can pop open the trunk with the push of a button. This car gets good gas mileage and drives smoothly.

Why I love my Buick enclave.
I haven't had any problems. The car is a smooth ride. The only problem I have experienced is the Bluetooth not working properly. It goes in and out occasionally. Otherwise, the car looks good and handles the road really well. I would recommend this car to anyone.

It is a well made vehicle!
This is my second enclave. I liked it before. . . I like it even better now. They worked out any kinks there were. . . And I upgraded a few features.

The Buick Enclave has so much space! The seats in the 3rd row fold up easily. Gas mileage is also not as bad as I was expecting!
I love the space in my car. I love the seat set up (2-2-3 set up). The only thing I don't like about my car is the fact it has no navigation without having to pay for On Star, which I don't do.
accountCircle Jessie S
My dream car and it has everything I wanted in a car and I love it.
My car is a light gold color with running board, so it is easy to get in for me, it has four bucket seats and are very comfortable, and a bench seat, so it sets 7 easy. It has leather seats with heat and cooling, a chocolate color interior, the back door lifts with a push of a button. Has a DVD player, two sunroofs, and the mirror tells you if someone is in your blind spot, also tells you when you are out of your lane. It is my dream car and I love it.

Technology, navigation and safety features like is an extra bonus feature.
No problems. This the second enclave we have purchased. It is reliable, comfortable and a great road car. It has excellent resale value and great on gas. We also purchase car care, so all oil changes and ever five thousand miles tire rotation is covered.

And interesting detail is when you use OnStar they help you within minutes.
This car has a lot of features including seat warmers, on star, it is very good on gas, has not broke down once, you can call through the dash, the seats are leather and it has lots of space, this Buick is very affordable, and reliable. It is gets me everywhere I want to go.

2017 black Buick enclave- premium.
Overall the SUV is nice. I wish it was a little bigger. There is a very irritating glare that goes across the front windshield when the sun catches, I assume, the dome lighting on the inside, but I am not sure. Also there is a bad reflection that comes off the top part of the wood steering wheel. Also wish there was a way to open the trunk from the inside of the car, you have to use the keyless remote to open the trunk. I would also like a way to open the middle area moonroof, even the ability to tilt it would be nice. I would also really like to have a key fob so when I walked up to the car it would recognize me, unlock and start the car- I wouldn't have to dig around to find my key. Overall, it is a solid car to purchase.

Smaller SUV option great and roomy. Nice interior feels very luxurious.
For me I went from. Yukon XL to the Enclave. It is a very nice vehicle however I miss my bigger vehicle that is the only issue I really have. Overall I like it for someone who is looking for a smaller SUV with a third row this is a nice vehicle and would be perfect.

It's fun to be in while I am driving.
Pretty dang good. I like it a lot. Affordable. Good gas mileage. Fun to drive. Many seats for friends and family. AUX cord and several different entertainment features.

Comfort, elegance with a few small annoyances.
The enclave is very comfortable to drive. I like the seat memory and heated steering wheel features. There is a ton of room and the second row captains chairs slide back and forth giving more space to the third row if needed. The tires do not hold air pressure well and need filled every few weeks. I don't like the need for OnStar to use GPS through the vehicle.

What Do Critics Say About the Buick Enclave?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2017 Buick Enclave offers a nice interior, while also getting decent owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Enclave at 4.1/5, praising the smooth suspension, but doesn’t like the out-of-date entertainment technology.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Enclave a 4.4/5, enjoying the adult-friendly third row, but owners don’t like the lack of safety technology.

What Common Problems Does the 2017 Buick Enclave Have?

Common problems found on the 2017 Buick Enclave include spongy brake feel, steering issues, along with squeaking from the door hinges. Overall, these problems are similar to other midsize SUVs on the market, leading to average repair bills as the Enclave ages.

Spongy brake feel is the most widespread complaint from 2017 Enclave owners, showing up in the first 10,000 miles. Usually, the problem is caused by low brake fluid levels which leads to lower brake pressure. Checking the fluid levels and topping it off solves the problem, usually, costing around $30.

Steering issues have also been reported by some owners at around 2,500 miles. Owners mentioned the steering feeling very loose. There is an encoder ring which is exposed to the elements, which gets metallic debris stuck to it, and gives steering error messages. Cleaning off the encoder ring costs around $50, depending on local labor rates.

Squeaking from the door hinges also shows up on some Enclave models in the first 1,000 miles. Usually, the problem is caused simply by poor alignment with the door and hinges. Usually simply re-aligning the door and lubricating the hinges fixes the problem and costs around $200.

There are three recalls on the 2017 Buick Enclave, which is similar to many other midsize SUVs from the same year. All three of the recalls cover air bag inflators, which may explode. This is a common recall across all makes and models, and is not a concern once the inflators have been replaced for free by your dealership.

How Long Will the 2017 Buick Enclave Last?

A well-maintained 2017 Buick Enclave can last around 250,000 miles, which is shorter than some other midsize SUVs including the Toyota Highlander. Regular annual maintenance costs are slightly higher than some competitors, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $648 per year.

As a used 2017 Buick Enclave reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the serpentine belt for $150, ignition coil costing $265, along with the coolant reservoir which costs around $500.

accountCircle Jami H

I have had minor issues with the Buick enclave but the dealership has resolved these issues. Each item has been covered under the manufacturer warranty.

accountCircle Keith M

I have never had an issue with my car, it is pretty new but it runs good and always gets me where I need to go

accountCircle Tammie S

The only problem I have had was at 23,000 miles my check engine light came on and my air conditioning stopped working. I was able to get my car to the dealership in a timely manner, was given a loaner and the problem was fixed.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is very good with a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen display with OnStar telematics. Optional upgrades include a more powerful 10-speaker Bose stereo system.

Standard safety technology is basic, offering a rearview camera.

Optional advanced driver safety equipment includes:

  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Forward collision warning

Is the 2017 Buick Enclave a Good Value?

Yes, the 2017 Buick Enclave is a good value since it’s cheaper than many other SUVs with no serious problems reported. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $17,725 to $29,590, making it less than a Subaru Outback or Jeep Grand Cherokee. When new, the price range was $39,065 to $49,625. Depreciation is worse than other SUVs, losing about 15% of its current value per year.

The cabin is designed to accommodate up to seven passengers across its three rows of seating, and it offers ample headroom and legroom for both adults and children.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The first generation of the Buick Enclave was introduced for the 2008 model year, and was replaced by the second generation in 2018.

2015: No major changes from earlier years.

2016: Newest version of OnStar added with 4G LTE Connectivity, Tuscan Edition launched with bronze grille and larger wheels.

2017: No changes.

2018: Fully redesigned for the second generation with new styling, engines, and technology.

How Does the Buick Enclave Compare to the Competition?

The 2017 Buick Enclave is a decent midsize SUV offering an upscale interior paired with decent reliability ratings as it ages, although it’s not the most exciting choice on the market.

The GMC Acadia is a competitor which is available in the same price range. Both the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave are built on the same base platform, while the Buick Enclave has a nicer interior for the price. We recommend the Buick Enclave since you get some more features for your money.

The Ford Explorer is another SUV which costs around $5,500 more. Passenger room is better in the Ford Explorer, while the Buick Enclave offers more luxurious features. We recommend the Ford Explorer since it’s more practical, although both are decent SUVs with similar reliability ratings.

Ok vehicle
Pros: comfortable, quiet from inside, heated & cooling seats, heated steering wheel Cons: only 17 mpg, rough transition when gears switch, had mirror stop working in first year as well as car dying at stop light. (Fuel line issue & new gas cap installed) Also, check engine light went on at 77,000 miles. (Canister purge valve stuck on-installed a new one)

You won't get there fast but you'll be comfy on your way.
This car is comfortable and I love all of the luxury features. The most disappointing feature of the car is the engine. It is quite slow and has poor acceleration. The range on the key fob isn't as good as my prior Buick which was three years older. Overall I like the car.

I love my crossover. It is good on gas mileage and very dependable. A smooth ride. It is very comfortable. Wow the leg room for the children is incredible. I just do not like the fact that it does not have a third row seat. I am looking into another Buick with a third row seat.

Buick Enclave for growing families
This car is truly a family car. We upgraded from our GMC Acadia to the Buick Enclave and I'm so glad we did. The leather interior allows for easy cleanups with the kiddies and our dog. There's plenty of space with the 3rd row and trunk. We are so happy we got our Buick

Lots of space and awesome backup camera!
I just recently purchased my 2017 Buick enclave in march... And because of co-vid haven't gotten a chance to drive it as much as I usually would but I definitely love it! It is super comfortable and quiet inside. I have 3 kids (2 car seats and a 15 year old) and there’s plenty of room for everybody. We can take entire family of 5 grocery shopping and still have room for all passengers plus a lot of groceries (because we are 5 people)! We haven't had any problems so far and I am really loving the backup camera.

We've only had it for a few months, but it is been great for us. We have had an issue with the air conditioning that seems to be electrical in nature and we're working to get that resolved. It has an exceptionally comfortable ride which includes the interior and seat quality.

No vehicle performance problems. The car rides very nice and smooth and the road noise is not that bad. The car is very comfortable and is a smooth ride and the interior design and color is very nice and stylish. The back seats all break down so you can have the back all flat in the back for carrying long distance. We use this car for traveling for the great space in the trunk for all the suitcases. The review mirrors come in so pulling out of a narrow garage is nice won't scratch your car.

Luxurious fun to drive Buick Enclave with little to no issues. Great value.
The vehicle is very comfortable and seats up to seven passengers. Only issue I have had with the vehicle was a clicking noise whenever I turned the steering wheel to the right. This issue occurred early on and was fixed right away as the vehicle was and still is under warranty. One thing I do not like about the vehicle is it is not easy to use the buttons that detail the oil life left on the car, trip optimizer etc. I also do not like that I have to manually adjust the time for daylight savings. I believe with all of the modern technology that these vehicles are equipped with that this should be done automatically by the vehicle. I also have a panoramic sunroof that I wish could be opened in the rear of the vehicle and not just the front. Overall though this is a very nice, luxurious vehicle that I love to drive!

Buick is okay but no caddy.
Overall the 2017 Buick enclave premium has been an okay vehicle. Nowhere near the luxury that Buick and gm claim. However it is still a really nice ride. No major problems after driving 49000 miles. Other than brakes and tire wear due to the all time AWD system gm uses which is trash at 100k miles usually so plan to trade before then.

Perfect family car! Lots of room without having to give up the luxury and perfect for parents needing the space but are not ready for the "van life". Captain seats make it easy to have extra passengers in 3rd row seat. Convenient stow away 3rd row makes it easy to fold for extra bike and toy space, or baby gear. The Buick enclave is indeed a 'luxury' vehicle by feel and ride.
This is my 2nd enclave- although I do not require the 7 seats any longer I still love it, the room is amazing and the driver is very comfortable- it is a large vehicle, but does not feel large to drive. It has the largest stow area for any 7 passenger vehicle that we have looked into. We loved it so much- we leased another. No problems with either of them. Routine maintenance required.

Blue Buick enclave. Tan leather interior with dark brown dashes.
My vehicle is really good in my opinion. I love the seat heating feature the most, especially on cold days. The sunroof comes a second because I am a big fan of that. Something I do not like are the windshield wipers. They are kind of weak and when it rains really hard it gets scary to drive. Also, the tires seem to stall out when the road is wet, more than my other cars. It seems that my oil runs out relatively fast. Another feature I like is the little light on the rear view mirrors that let you know if a car is next to you. I still look back to check, but it is very useful and saved me on multiple occasions. Also, the acceleration is really fast. Overall good car.

It is a good family car. It is great for short trips.
So far we've only had to replace the battery twice. It is got good miles to the gallon on gas. It has heated front seats. Overall it is a nice little car. There were a couple of scratches on it when we got it because it is a used car. With some paint repair it was easy to fix. Sometimes it has trouble going up steep hills, but that is expected from a small car. Buick overall is a good car company. They make good cars. Not the best car for a 9 hour road trip. The seats are comfortable though. Tire quality has been good.

Love the captain seats without it being a minivan love the interior lightning.
There is minimal trunk space when the third row is in use. This model is not available in leather seating. The cloth seats are comfortable though. This car has really neat interior lighting around the perimeter that lights up automatically when it is dark out. The captain seats make it easy to get my kids in and out of the vehicle. The look on the. Exterior is really nice. The car drives very smoothly. XM radio is available but no navigation is in the car. There is a touch screen for radio and controls. On star is a good feature. Automatic seat only on the driver's seat. Cup holders throughout the car and rear air vents. No push start in this car. Automatic trunk control.

The enclave is extremely comfortable.
The enclave is roomy and allows me to carpool my children and their friends when needed. It is comfortable to sit in and drive. The enclave has a nice design and style. The only dislike is that there are no guards to keep items from falling into the tracks under the middle row seats.

The Buick enclave is a very safe and reliable car, with plenty of room.
The Buick enclave is a very sound vehicle, with plenty of room for a family of 6. The ride is extremely quiet and the car holds up exceptionally well in an accident. I would not trust my family's safety in any other vehicle and would most definitely purchase another brick in the future.

Great performance and does not waste too much of gasoline.
I like my vehicle because it is very reliable and does not use too much of gasoline while it is on a road. Also, it is very fancy inside with great electronic features that helps me while I operate my vehicle, it is very good in a winter time during snowy season because it has 4wd features.

Well, the car actually has premium Bose speakers which are amazing for music.
Well, the GPS sometimes just takes us driving in circles mostly, that does not happen. We pretty much fixed it, but... The performance is good, quality is amazing, comfort is amazing, and most features are good. The car is not a bad price, and I recommend it.

This car is everything we need!!
I love my enclave. The seats all lay down so we can carry things if needed. It drives smoothly and quietly. It gets good enough gas mileage. The air conditioner is cold and works great. Our car has Bluetooth and we use it often. We also have heated seats and this is a great feature in the winter!!

Our enclave has been a delight to own.
Our enclave has never been serviced for breakdowns. We take it in every 3 months for maintenance, oil change, and tire rotation. It is dependable and we feel safe driving it long distances. If we trade it in this fall, we will get another enclave. The end.

Buick enclave detailed review 2020.
It's a Buick enclave. I have leather interior. Theres Bose speakers. I have GPS built in. I bought it with only 5000 miles. I had to have the brakes replaced, the rotors and oil changed. Other than that the car has been perfect. I don't have any regrets other than paying a little too much.

Honest review from a new Buick buyer.
The car rides great and is very quiet. However, I bought brand new and there was a crack in the steering wheel and the car makes a funny sound. I have taken it in and mechanics cannot find the cause. Other than those complaints I love it. The bucket seats in the back is a must.

That it's not only a gorgeous car, but it's very reliable.
I love my vehicle. This is the second Enclave I've purchased. It's luxurious and very comfortable. The vehicle looks great!

Buy an enclave-best SUV for families.
My Buick is amazing. I love the smooth ride it provides. I also feel like it is extremely safe. There are so many comfort features including many seat adjustment options, heated front seats and steering wheel and comfortable seats. One of the reasons I chose my car over others is the extended back. There is a decent amount of space between 3rd row and hatch door in back.
