Feb 18, 2023

The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado lasts around 250,000 miles with relatively minor brake wear and transmission noises. At $22,998 to $40,990, it’s a great value for a compact truck with a high towing capacity.

likeFilled The Good
The engines are more powerful than other small trucks, it’s easy to maneuver in large cities and the stereo system controls are simple.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The rear seats are a bit cramped, the lower bumper gives it a worse approach angle for off-roading and it doesn’t have the latest safety technology.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado a Good Used Truck?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2020 is a good year for the Chevy Colorado since it’s a reliable small truck capable of towing. Owner reviews praise the efficient engines, four-wheel drive system, along with the reasonable ownership costs as it ages.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 7/10 – Interior materials are durable yet basic, the seats are reasonably comfortable for a truck, two bed lengths are also offered.

  • Safety 7/10 – The 2020 Colorado is reasonably safe, earning 4 out of 5 stars in government crash tests. There’s a standard rearview camera, while parking sensors along with lane departure warning are both optional.

Some reasons to buy a Chevy Colorado.
I love my truck. The Colorado will go anywhere. The paint and coat is nice and sleek. The 4 doors allow more room for luggage and occupants. The truck has great towing capacity and raw power for everyday uses. I would recommend this truck to anyone that wants a good bang for their buck. I have recommended this truck to all of my friends and family members.

My Chevy Colorado is a great vehicle. I have used it for many different jobs around the house for materials and for jobs at work. It is an extended cab so it is great to drive around with friends and provides everyone with enough room to be comfortable! I highly recommend this vehicle for anyone looking for a small truck.

I really enjoy my new 2020 Chevy Colorado. We have recently started doing a lot of camping so the upgrade to a truck really helps with our long weekend camping trips. I upgrade from a camaro to this truck and the truck drives so much better for road trips.

The most interesting is the comfort gas mileage and room of the truck.
I love my new Colorado it is comfortable and gets great gas mileage I haven't had any issues with it as of now it is very smooth riding and the radio work great! It has all the basic features it has Bluetooth to connect to internet in your iPhone to play music and GPS. It also has a backup camera. The only complaint I have is I wish it came with a CD player. I had to get used to the ignition the breaks feel slightly different than my old truck. But as far as comfort and room and the way it rides it is a wonderful truck. It also has electric windows and locks and fuel injected. I wish it had leather seats but that can be upgraded.

Great truck that I am glad I purchased.
I have not experienced any problems with my vehicle. It is very comfortable with the leather seats. It sits up high off the ground for a mid-size truck. It has great Bose stereo system. It has been very dependable. It is stylish, as well. I really like this vehicle.

I recently bought my Chevy Colorado zr2 and absolutely love everything about it. I am a single girl with one dog so I didn't need a full sized pickup but needed the towing capabilities of a 4wd pickup and the Colorado couldn't have been anything more perfect. Comfortable seats and drives well.
Wish I would’ve gotten 4wd. The screen turns black and goes off and on at random times which can make it difficult when using CarPlay for google maps. The seats are very comfortable and it is a very nice driving truck. I wish that there were a/c controls for the backseat as well.

Truck does well on gas but not so much on experience.
Not enough storage or room, car is poor on gas. Not a lot of legroom in the back of the cab. It does drive smooth and has the rear camera feature which is nice. Does not have a lot of bells and whistles, does not include front storage as well. I would only buy if your a single person.

Smooth ride. Easy to steer. Easy to control. Lots of legroom.
I really like the design and the easy steering. I have arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome in my hands. This is a very easy vehicle to drive. It does not jerk or pull. It is very smooth and will turn on a dime. It is also gives a very comfortable ride for a passengers.

My vehicle is very fast and I love driving it plus it is very fast.
My car has a lot of speed but the engine really needs some working on right now I am trying to get it back to it is normal shape which is not hard and I am looking for buyers car goes for 2,000 24 p hr trying to get it off quick waste of space it is an amazing car though.

The title of the vehicle is interesting and the engine is an interesting deal.
The terrain is difficult and hard to use in the winter. The comfort is excellent quality and the problem with gas or the automotive. There might be something wrong with the engine. And the gas pump might broken. The automatic is slowing down and the engine light is on. Fuze outage or wires might be messed up. Transmission and the engine.

What Do Critics Say About the Chevy Colorado?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado is a great alternative to larger full-size trucks on the market with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Colorado at 3.7/5, enjoying the available diesel engine, but doesn’t like the lack of in-cabin storage.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Colorado a 4.3/5, praising the high towing capacity at up to 7,700 pounds, but owners don’t like the smaller interior.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado include premature brake wear, noise from the transmission, along with some chipping paint. Overall, these problems are similar to other small trucks on the market, leading to average ownership costs as it ages.

Premature brake wear is the most widespread complaint from 2020 Chevy Colorado owners in the first 5,000 miles. If you plan on using a Colorado to tow a lot, it would be a good idea to upgrade the brake pads since the stock ones wear out quickly. Replacing the brake pads costs around $200, while an upgraded set is around $250.

Noise from the transmission has also been reported by Colorado owners at around 20,000 miles. Usually the noise occurs while shifting from first to second gear. The first thing to do is change the fluid in the transmission and see if that solves the problem. If it doesn’t then you will want to investigate any issues with bearings.

Chipping paint is another issue on some Colorado models in the first 25,000 miles. Paint which is improperly cared for and left in direct sunlight will start to wear down and be more susceptible to chipping as it ages. If you get a lot of chips, the only way to fix the problem is by repainting the affected area, costing around $1,000 per panel.

There are no recalls on the 2020 Chevy Colorado, which is better than many other small trucks on the market. This just means that none of the issues with the Colorado have been widespread enough for Chevrolet to issue a full recall.

How Long Will the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Chevy Colorado can last around 250,000 miles, which is around 100,000 miles less than the long-lasting Toyota Tacoma. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other trucks according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $555 per year.

As a used 2020 Chevy Colorado reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the control arm bushings for $400, the radiator hose costing $500, along with the tie rods which cost around $150.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is very good for a truck with a standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Optional upgrades include a more powerful stereo system and a larger 8-inch touchscreen.

Safety technology is worse than some of the competition, only offering a standard rearview camera and teen driver mode which allows you to set limits on volume and speed. Optional driver assistance features are also lacking, with only rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning available.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Chevy Colorado is a good value since it offers a high towing capacity with improved reliability ratings from earlier years. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $22,998 to $40,990, making it similar to a Ford Ranger or GMC Canyon. The more expensive models are certified pre owned with a warranty. When new, the price range was $21,300 to $43,000. Depreciation is similar to other small trucks, losing around 3% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Chevy Colorado?

  • An available upgrade is the stronger 3.6L V6, which produces 308 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque at up to 20 MPG. This engine has an eight-speed automatic transmission. This pulls up to 7,000 pounds.
  • The most efficient motor is the 2.8L 4-cylinder diesel, which is good for 181 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque while getting 23 MPG. It also features the six-speed automatic transmission. It can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Chevy Colorado was introduced for the 2015 model year, and is going to be replaced by the third generation in 2023.

2015: Fully redesigned for the second generation after being removed from the lineup for three years.

2016: 4-cylinder diesel engine available, optional Apple CarPlay.

2017: Upgraded V6 engine, new 8-speed automatic transmission, ZR2 model with off-road suspension.

2018: New 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2019: Improved rearview camera, updated stereo system, more USB ports.

2020: Remote locking tailgate added.

2021: Entry-level model discontinued, new front bumper added.

How Does the Chevy Colorado Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado is a very good compact truck which is cheaper than some of the competition while still offering a great towing and hauling capacity for its size.

The Ford Ranger is another small truck which is available for around $2,000 more. Passenger room is a bit better in the Ford Ranger, while the Chevy Colorado offers more efficient engine choices. We recommend the Ford Ranger since you get more features for your money, although both are good trucks for 2020.

The Toyota Tacoma is a competitor available for roughly $5,000 more. Off-road performance is better in the Toyota Tacoma, while the Chevy Colorado has a higher towing capacity with its diesel engine. We recommend the Toyota Tacoma since it’s the longest-lasting compact truck on the market with the lowest ownership costs as it ages.

Uncomfortable on long drives and transmission shifts rough at start
I drove my 2020 chevy Colorado to Texas from Utah. The seat was very uncomfortable after about 500 miles. In the morning when starting off the transmission feels like it slips a little, but after that it had no problems. Now after only 14000 miles the battery goes dead after not driving two days. Hopefully its just a bad battery, will see. Had Ford previously it didn"t have any problems until 140000 miles and it was only a fuel pump. New owner loves the vehicle.

My thoughts on the 2020 Chevy Colorado.
This vehicle drives incredibly well and has an ample amount of cab space. The bed is also rhino lined which is so great because it does not scratch and or dent. Switching from 2wd to 4wd is so easy and the apple car play is incredibly useful.Overall, this truck is a powerhouse. And so much fun to drive!

My Chevy Colorado truck. I good truck for general use and short family trips.
No problems yet. Decent seating for 4. I need to add on a truck tool box to store tools and luggage for longer trips. I do like that the Chevy dealer has free oil changes on this vehicle. If one has a large family (5 or larger) than they would need to get a full sized truck or SUV.

Lots of bang in this little truck!
This truck has great suspension. It is slightly top heavy, especially when rounding corners. Just be mindful of that. The seats are very comfortable and firm. The screen is large and very easy to read and navigate. It is a very reliable vehicle. The tailgate will not open if the vehicle is not unlocked. It is an okay truck. Needs less hard plastic.
It is an ok vehicle. A lot of hard plastic makes it feel a little cheap. The engine already makes noises with low miles. The front seat does not have lumbar support. The transmission feels a little clunky in the morning. It does have some pep when accelerating.

The Colorado is a reliable truck. It drives like a car, which is quite nice as someone who bought it without being in any sort of construction business. This truck has the smoothest ride in its size category. It is also very quiet. It rides more like a midsize luxury car than a light truck. The bed holds two large kayaks easily and looks great while doing it. The gas mileage is quite good too. We generally get around 22 in the city.

2020 Chevrolet Colorado 4wd z71 infotainment system issues.
Overall the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado is really good. However, there are a couple of issues. I experienced several instances were the infotainment system has stopped working. The system is overall glitchy and often goes blank after startup. I have run into issues with apple CarPlay not working at all even after turning the vehicle off and back on. The back up camera is generally pretty good but sometimes glitches. The parking sensors are pretty much useless as they often indicate collision when the vehicle is nowhere near and obstacle.

The "Experts" failed to mention that the Honda isn't a true truck. So that leaves the Tacoma and my 2020 Colorado Crew Cab 4WD V6 to but heads. The Colorado meets all my expectations with the exception of the latest radio and it's USB data ports, seems they don't want to read flash drives. There is no problem with the vehicle performance. The Colorado is very reliable and good on gas. My Colorado has Wi-Fi, OnStar, the Colorado is not a very large truck but just large enough for me because I have no children's. The Colorado is very roomy. It can easily sit 5 passengers comfortably.

The truck of 2020. Incredible gas mileage, sleek exterior, comfortable interior.
It is an amazing drive. The stereo is incredible and great for big bass songs. Plenty of storage in the cab. Large bed makes for moving things or stargazing. The only thing I would wish to change is the brakes are a little slow similar to a worn down car. The perks of getting the car are great- free oil changes for the life of the car. Comfortable seats is even better when they can move to your exact specifications.

Great technology comfortable seating and heated seats and steering wheel.
Its brand new so there are no problems I have no complaints as the truck is only weeks old. I just bought it brand new. It is very reliable comfortable and beautiful. I have all the great technology in it with heated seats and steering wheel I absolutely love this vehicle.

Love my truck, a new but very familiar vehicle.
Love the vehicle. I had previously leased the same truck. I almost bought out the lease but it was better off financially to go with a new version of the same truck. Love the new truck - even though it is a different color and didn't come with heated seats.

Colorado 2020 - positive review for those looking for a comfortable truck.
The vehicle is extremely reliable. Has fast acceleration, is extremely save to drive, and very comfortable seating with enough room in the backseat for guests to stretch out their legs. The back up camera provides a safe view in order to move the large vehicle around. The vehicle has apple CarPlay where it connects to your phone and you are able to access your apps through your cars radio system.

Spacey nice ride with good size bed.
This is my first time having a truck and I absolutely love it. The inside is super spacey and allows enough room for the entire family. It is a smooth ride. The truck bed is a decent size and makes moving things easy. I wish it came with the bed covered though it already got a small dent and I couldn't afford to add the cover just yet.

Buy this great looking truck!
I am very happy with this truck. I have a special trim on a base truck that looks great. Mileage is good for a four wheel v6. It is comfortable and interior is laid out very nicely. I have excellent view of road. Engine has good power. Easy to engage 4wd with a knob turn. Plenty of interior storage very quiet interior. Like a nice car.

It has very comfortable seats and drives smoothly.
Very reliable never breaks down. Very sturdy and comfortable. Good looking car. Good price. Looks sporty. It has very good fuel economy do not have to fill up the gas that much. Nice windows and seats. Good tires and brakes. Does not have any problems I can think of. Nice color options when first buying the car.

Rides smooth! And the Bluetooth is great.
It is so small on the inside, but it rides smooth and has Bluetooth. I also like how the seats heat up and the mirrors inside are nice size. Just needs to be bigger it is deceiving. If you are single this truck is for you. If you have children then keep looking.

Great cheat truck. Perfect size, but bare options.
Loved the car but when they say basic model they mean basic. Backup camera is good quality and useful but there is no OnStar, remote start, no buttons to change the station or volume from the steering wheel. Very lacking in what I thought were bare minimum services.
