Alex Showalter
Nov 7, 2021

The 2011 Chevrolet Impala is a large sedan available from $7,183 to $10,585. Serious problems with higher mileage examples make this a car buyers should avoid.

VehicleHistory Image
likeFilled The Good
  • A roomy cabin with seating for up to 6 people.
  • Fuel economy is good for a full size sedan.
  • More cargo space than other sedans on the market.
dislikeFilled The Bad
  • The interior materials are very cheap for its class.
  • Mechanical problems including transmission failures are common.
  • Handling is poor and it feels floaty to drive.

2011 Chevrolet Impala: Quick Overview

  • No major changes for the 2011 Impala, with a complete redesign for the 2014 model year.
  • Reliability is below average for a large sedan.
  • Two engines are available. Both are V6, but the one found in the LTZ model is more powerful.
  • The Impala ranks 2nd out of 9 large sedans in fuel economy, with a combined rating of up to 23 miles per gallon.
  • Safety is average for its class, earning a 4-star rating in government crash tests.
  • The 2011 Impala is a comfortable large sedan, but poor reliability and a lack of technology make this a car that shoppers should avoid. There are better, longer lasting full size sedans on the market.

Cruise control and stereo controls on the steering g wheel makes driving easy. I am in love with this car, the smooth driving is amazing!

Great car. Runs really well.
Seats are really comfortable, the car has been really reliable, has not broken down yet, tires are so easy to find. I love the way it handles and how cool the air conditioning is. I love how gently it takes bumps and how easy it is to change the lights..

One interesting detail would be the seat warmer.
It drives wonderful, it has great gas mileage and a great sound system. We drove from phoenix to mesa and back and still had a full tank of gas. I recommend any Chevy lover to get this car whether its a 2011 or newer. Please get this vehicle if you really like driving long distances.

It has great gas mileage and no safety issues.
I always buy Chevy. My car is great on gas and low maintenance. It is very comfortable to drive and it drives very smoothly.

Great cars I do not have any complaints to say about them.
None I love Chevy cars in general. I had it 3 yrs and just bought another Chevy as well different model and different color. Comfortable and reliable leather sunroof in one. The other it is a lt and it do not have leather or sun run, they both are good on gas no issues there and they use e75 so it is cheaper.

I am sure all who ride in a Chevy impala will fall in love with it.
It is been a great car. It has comfortable seats and lots of legroom. Has a smooth ride. It has several airbags for safety. It has a very roomy trunk which is great for holding all of your shopping items. It gets very good gas mileage which is a plus in my books. My car has an am/FM radio/CD player/auxiliary port for all of your musical needs.
accountCircle Shannon G
It is a great all around car which can handle itself in snow and rain and has a large enough trunk to handle large shopping trips or camping trips.
I love that it is a large car with tons of space in the trunk. It handles awesome while driving in the country, city and highway. Has a V6 engine so it has tons of power but isn't hard on your gas mileage. It does pretty good in the snow for a car and way better than my old cars. The only thing i don't like is that it started to rust as soon as the diamond coat was no longer guaranteed (bottom of the doors mostly) which i know if from road salt but it is annoying because it is not that old and only has 50k miles.
accountCircle Brittany P
Amazing gas mileage. We only have to fill up our car every two weeks.
My Chevy Impala has great gas mileage. It is a smooth ride. There is plenty of room. It has a really big trunk. It is easy to clean up after the mess a two year old makes. It did amazing even when we went on a 2,000 Mile road trip.

It has a safety backup cam.
Have had nothing but problems with this car. Nothing I like about it. Will be getting a new car soon. Will not be another Chevy.

Had to replace the transmission twice
I had to replace the transmission twice. Once after 5 years and 7 months with only 128,050 kms and again 4 years later with only 78,250 kms. On the rebuilt GM transmission. Also have had to replace the front wheel bearings at least twice and each side.

Hate the look of the car but love how it drives.
I just do not like it is a car but I am graceful it has never gave me any problems. I just want a car up to date. I heard impala wasn't the best cars but I have not had any problems out of my car. I do love the leather seats and it can go fast it also drive very smooth I wouldn't mind getting a up to date impala.

Garbage
My car has had multiple problems since buying it used with 34,000 back in 2012. I’ve had the wheel bearings replaced twice, the inner and outer tie rods replaced, gaskets replaced for engine leak, heater core replaced, rack and pinion replaced, throttle body replaced, now needs accelerator replaced, have had to replace battery 3 times since buying, rear defroster does not work, brakes replaced twice, brackets on sway bar replaced, left front wheel speed sensor wiring harness replaced, right speed sensor wiring harness needs replacement, passenger side vent actuator replaced, thermostat replaced, AC compressor replaced. Should have bought a Ford

Chevrolet impala LTZ sedan. It is navy blue.
Had issues with the coolant fans and alternator. My windows do not go down, my door handle broke. My rack and pinion is not working. Prior to those issues, it was a great car. I could not stop driving it. I honestly love impalas but my car is breaking down. I will probably go with another Chevy

Chevy impala- the things you should know.
Annoying ac tick, a lot of issues with the power steering system. A lot one of the most lower valued Chevy impala are lts. So pick any other model than an lts. You'll find having to change the brakes a lot. Headlights are ok could be better. It is ok on gas and has a decent engine.

Kinda. The transmission completely locked up after we had it 1 week. The alternator, starter have also been replaced since I've had it. Also it had an ignition switch problem that was also fixed my recall.

Impalas are the real deal!
I love my impala! I got this car in 2016 with low mileage and it has been good to me since. There is a clicking noise (which I found out most do with time) but the parts are cheap and I replaced them myself. It is great on mileage, drives smooth, and has never given me reason to doubt it. The only issue I have now is ball bearings. With time those things are normal though. Other than that, my car is fine.

Pros and cons of the Chevrolet impala.
Traction control goes out after a couple years. There are some type of sensors that go bad really often and have to be changed because the car continuously clicks really loud. The car drives easy and very comfortable. I will say if your not a tall person then backing up can be difficult because there’s 3 head rests in the back seat and there kind of a pain to see over.

Decent car, has served her purpose.
Car is running well after all this time. General wear and tear of paint and interior. Actuator is bad, but it is an easy fix. Trunk space is massive. My only complaint is that there is not quite enough room for my family of 5, which includes 2 five point harness booster seats.

Clicking ac unit. Chevy ac units always are the first to fail. The spark plugs tend to burn out quickly as well. The car is overall great for city driving. Very spacious has great trunk space and will ride for years at a time if you keep up with it. It's a must grab.

2011 Chevrolet impala runs great, a very dependable vehicle. It has minor damage to the exterior, but does not affect the driver of the car. It has aftermarket rims and tires that the really dress up the car which is gold in color. Ihas approximately 175,000 miles on the car but the car has really gotten the TLC needed to keep in running right now and in the future. It has 2 brand new tires on it and needs 2 more tires to have new ones all the way around.

Chevy impala, good or bad?
It is a good sturdy car to get you around town. I personally cannot take it on the highway, there has been many problems with it but also it is 10 years old so that is what you can expect. Recently I have had to realign, and also fix my power steering. These are things that happen because it is so old and high mileage, I have only had it a couple years but I enjoy using it to get me one place to another.

Sometimes the transmission goes out and it is hard to steer it take a lot of steering fluid for it to go back to normal and also the tires sometimes go out of air and it sometimes has a bad smell coming out of the air conditioner I really have been trying to get a hold of a new car because the one I have now is giving me too much trouble.

My only problem is a heated seat went out in about 2015, best thing is astro start and heated seats. Its comfortable, reliable, always starts, never gotten stuck, good gas mileage and is aging well. I am the 2nd owner of the vehicle and got it in 2014. It has about 160,000 miles and has made many cross country trips, at least one a year. I love the Bluetooth feature so that I can talk while driving and I love the reminders of oil change and fuel levels and I love that it automatically puts my headlights on for me.

Wonderful, trustworthy car.
I have had no problems with the vehicle to date. It is very comfortable to drive, even for long trips. I do not get a lot of outside noise while driving. Its performance has been wonderful. It has had nothing major go wrong with it since owning, to date.
