likeFilled The Good
A more comfortable suspension than other trucks in the same class, good V8 engine options with a high maximum towing capacity, and an easy-to-use infotainment system.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The standard V6 engine is very weak for a large truck, there’s less lockable storage space than many rivals, and the braking distance is farther than other full size trucks.

I love it. It is a very comfortable ride and very reliable in all weather.
I love the looks of it and how reliable it is. It came with many options and we were able to add more. It does use a lot of gas as expected but would be nice if it was more fuel efficient.

The extended bed in the truck is my favorite part.
I really love how the car runs. Is has little to no problems with the engine. The cosmetic part of it could be better because the door handles have both fallen off each side. I love having the back of the truck to take stuff around. Having the bed really helps out when I have to take stuff to the dump, donations to goodwill, or even helping friends move.

2012 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab.
It has a great build, has been easy to maintain, is very reliable, has plenty of space in the bed, and has just about all of the features you wouldn't want in a work truck. It does not have the fuel efficiency that newer trucks have but it is been great so far.

2012 Silverado 1500 first time truck owner review!
The only problems I have with my 2012 Silverado is they are prone to rusting in the box sides above the wheel wells. Besides that they are a great truck. They look sharp are comfortable and drive nice. They don't have much road noise and ride smooth. I couldn't ask for a better first truck unless I was going to spend the money for a 3/4 ton.

Reliable truck, with some headlight issues.
My truck has been my most reliable vehicle yet. I have had to change the tires once. It has been mechanically sound with regular oil changes and mileage check-ups. I changed out the back brakes at 5 years old and the front brakes at 8 years old. I have had a recent issue with the trailer brake lights. I have also had an issue with the front left headlight, it is been rewired twice, the fuses have been changed and it will go out for a while and then turn back on.

Piece of junk
This truck had many problems, but the worst was a constant cyclical vibration at highway speeds that started around 3,000 miles. The dealer replaced several parts, but liked to blame the tires even though their first test was to swap all tires and wheels with a set from a new truck, and that didn't stop the vibration. After 15,000 to 20,000 miles of vibration, the 4-wheel drive wouldn't engage even though the light indicator said it was in 4-wheel drive. The dealer eventually told me the vibration was "within their tolerance" and told me to go somewhere else to get it fixed. As bad as the problems were, the fact that everyone at Chevrolet decided to stick me with a $43,000 piece of junk is why I will never buy another GM vehicle.

Parts don't last very long, had to replace several parts in the past year. Cost me a lot of money. Had a new motor put in after only 4 years.

Interesting detail is the one it had some years ago it was perfect not single problem.
It just has trouble starting has lots of malfunctions after 4 years, it has been problem since 2018, I want to buy new one but I have to sell the old one fit to get some money but most prices I got were so low I might be giving up on it. One last try is to post it on offer I hope it is able to work.

Think twice about a 2011-2013 Silverado 1500
Torque converter is bad. The shocks have worn out to easily. The inside system for entertainment is way outdated. The truck requires a lot of maintenance, more so that the average truck in order to stay running well. I feel as if the truck was poorly designed and gas mileage isn't great.

Very reliable, the only complaint I have is my current job and having to use it. Other than that it a great truck. Leather seats would have been a great option. Also had to reinstall speakers because they were blown. Does have to service trans after 150,000 miles. Great decision.

Having the 4 doors helps because we have a large family.
My vehicle has been very reliable, it has low miles. I have started having some issues with the power windows not rolling up, but I think that is an electrical problem with the switch. I also enjoy the extra room of having the back seat and 4 doors.

It is a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lt with a 4.8l v8 engine in it.
It has a 4.8l v8 engine so it does not have enough power. I enjoy driving it but I just need something with more power to do the type of hauling and pulling I do. I have several boats I pull and also several trailers. Overall the truck is good if you are an elderly person needing something to get back and forth to work in.

What Problems Does the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Have?

The 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 series has fewer problems than some other full size trucks on the market from the same year. There are also less complaints from owners compared to the 2013 model.

Engine problems, including excessive oil consumption, are the most common issues. The consensus is the engines just consume more oil than some other trucks. Checking the oil regularly is a good idea to prevent damage to the engine.

A clunking noise from the transmission is another problem mentioned by owners. Replacing or reinforcing the torque converter clutch valve on the transmission solves the problem, costing about $160.

Dashboard cracks are another issue brought up by Silverado owners. As the dash expands and contracts in the heat cracks can develop. Replacing the entire dash costs about $1,000, or you can install a dash cover for around $70.

There are 4 recalls, which is better than other full size trucks from the same era. The recalls include the transfer pump, ignition lock actuator, and air bags. Most serious is the transfer pump since a failure causes the engine to stall.

What are the Prices, Models & Specs?

The 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 series is average-priced for a full size truck, with a range of $17,340 to $29,789, depending on the model and mileage. When new, the price range was $22,195 to $42,440. Texas edition Silverado crew cab is the Lone Star.
No problems. Well maintained and serviced. Change oil frequent. Balance tires. Check fluids frequent. Wash and clean interior to meet standards. Performance is responsive to demand. Reliability has been consistent other than changing out the battery. Comfort is Texas edition. Features are responsive in the Texas edition.

It makes odd noises but it is reliable.
I have nothing to really complain about it. I have had some issues with the brakes and I constantly have to change the oil but other than that I do not have anything negative to say about it. Besides this odd noise that it keeps making. Even though mechanics couldn't figure out what it was.

Ignition issue and wheel/axle issue.
The key ignition gets stuck and I have to jiggle the key many times in order for the ignition to start. Apparently this is a recall issue and I am waiting to hear back from the manufacturer. Also many of these pickups have a squeaking noise that comes from turning and it is common on the early 2010s models.

Drives smooth, especially over bumps and uneven roads. Rides comfortable well.
Does not work well when you have children that are in car seats and when having to get groceries or will have shopping bags in truck. There is not enough room for both child and shopping items inside of truck. Also, the doors and parking are an issue when trying to get child out or in truck and the way the doors open.

Super reliable truck to fit all of someone’s needs.
Absolutely love it. Had it for about a year now and haven't had a single problem with it. Over 110,000 miles but runs like it is under 50,000. Only problem I have noticed is with the Florida heat some of the stuck on panels are starting to pop off a little but that is a relatively easy fix. All around a highly reliable vehicle. Of course it is going to guzzle some gas but it is a truck it is to be expected. Out of the 4 vehicles I have owned this one is definitely my favorite. Highly recommend Chevy and specifically Silverados to anyone looking for a new vehicle, one that can take a beating and just keep trucking along. The flex fuel compatibility is a plus but I hardly ever use it. Basic maintenance is also really easy if you are one that prefers to do oil changes and brakes yourself.

It is a truck. To say I use it as a truck is a lie. I use it more as a car that gets really bad gas mileage, but I still do love it. The few times I used it as a truck, it did its jobs wonderfully. It has a good amount of room and makes me smile. If I could I wouldn't buy it again though.

Trucks are great to add customizations to and really personalize it.
My 2012 Silverado is amazing. I have had it for about 6 months now and have had no issues with it at all. It tows everything I have needed it to and actually does pretty well on gas mileage. One of my complaints with Silverados is the rusting that happens on the rear wheel quarter panels. That is something pricy to fix, but with the truck being 8 years old and it never being placed in a garage I would consider it to be handling well for the weathering it has seen.

My vehicle is great, I just love it. The major problem that I just do not understand is that the traction control and stabilitrak will not turn on. Plus, the oil pressure gets low when the oil life is under 10 percent. I believe it is a oil lifter valve.

Chevy truck was an awesome buy!
A comfort that would have made getting in a bit easier would be a handle to haul yourself up into the truck on the driver's side. There's one on every other door except the driver's, and crawling up into it can be a chore. The gas mileage is great, can go for a week or a week and a half without having to fill up.

I have not had any problems as of today and I have been pulling a 30 ft travel trailer with it for over a year and a half straight. It has been dependable and reliable. I bought it used with only one owner and only 14,000 miles. I am now at 30,000 miles with no anticipated problems. It can take the fuel as well. Gas mileage isn't bad, about 15mpg. 2012 Silverado z71. Highly recommend.
The truck has amazing power train. Like most gm vehicles the window regulators begin wearing out after around five years but are not very expensive to have replaces. The display on the radio and clock has also gotten occasionally blurry but tapping it clears it up. It is rated for 14 miles per gallon city and 21 miles per gallon highway I believe. After 90k miles I average 15.7 miles per gallon. The motor has plenty of power. The truck is plenty fast and does a great job hauling weight. With the tow haul mode engaged I had no trouble pulling 2 tons of pellets for my stove. The four wheel drive works great as well. Even on ice I can drive normally as long as I leave extra space for braking since four wheel drive does not help with stopping on slick surfaces. I plan to keep this truck until it just cannot go anymore and I fully expect that to be another ten years or more. If you take good care of it this truck will last a very long time. I work in an auto shop and I have seen many of these come through for basic maintenance. Typically they are all in good running order even well over 200 thousand miles. I also wrecked mine and it was considered totaled by the insurance but I bought it back. Significant wreck and the damage should have been much worse. But the truck also did a fantastic job of protecting me as I came out of it unscathed.

Chevy Silverado dependable, stylish and practical.
The Silverado is a reliable truck with a luxury feel to it. I get about 18 mpg with mostly highway travels. My truck is 6 years old and with regular oil changes I have not had any major issues. Take size into consideration, if you are not used to a large I would suggest try parking it on your test drive to see if it is for you. I have driven buses before and there are tight beach cities that can be a headache to park . I have also used my truck to move several friends and it has never let my down.

Great truck, but not as solid as the older models, and not as good in the snow. Very easy to drive for a big automobile, lots of room even in the extended cab edition. Would like to see less electronic options, particularly the windows, they always fail after about 5 years.

This truck is a strong, dependable vehicle with very little maintenance required. It has a spacious interior for an extended cab, easily accommodating six passengers, a fold-down center front console with tons of storage, and provides a smooth ride. The only drawback is that the seats do not offer a lot of low-back support so long road-trips are not the most comfortable.

Underpowered Performance Truck
Performance is lacking due to it being a 6 cylinder. Pretty much a luxury work truck. Reliability is good ride is rough but overall a good vehicle

Silverado 2012 paint and performance.
The paint is wearing off of the truck, but overall it runs great. I have had it for 8 years, and never had any performance problems. I am glad to say that I will be buying a Silverado again soon. Compared to ford, I feel like the truck runs smoother, and looks better. I cannot wait for the 2022 Silverado.

Love it but does have issues
Traction control stabilitrak light defect causes light to come on for no reason. Have had the hub assemblies replaced, the ABS module and wires replaced. No code stores in the ABS system to be able to scan it to get any codes for why it is on. Causes wheels to lock up

The a/c is phenomenal it works so good.
The vehicle is very exceptional, nice interior, very reliable but there is one problem. The transmission seems to go out on these types of vehicles very frequently, for instance mine is starting to slip after being the second owner since it was made. When shifting into third gear around 40 mph if pressing on the accelerator to hard the truck delays and slams.

The vehicle has given not problems and would buy again

It's very reliable. No trouble
I like the towing capacity. I like the power locks and windows. It has a gas saver.

It is great for any new driver and anyone who just appreciates trucks and Chevy.
I really like how it drives and feels on the road. The truck is smaller, but I didn't really need anything huge. The truck is decent on gas though, so cannot complain.
