2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Review: Full Size Truck With Good Long-Term Reliability Ratings

Alex Showalter
Dec 29, 2022

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lasts around 250,000 miles with only some minor transmission and brake system software issues. At $33,082 to $58,474, it’s expensive, but worth the money for a nice truck with a comfortable cabin.

VehicleHistory Image
likeFilled The Good
There’s a lot of passenger room throughout the cabin, the touchscreen stereo system works well and there are powerful V8 engines.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The suspension is loose on rough roads, it’s harder to climb into than other trucks and the center controls take up a lot of room.

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a Good Used Truck?

  • Gas Mileage 8/10 – Fuel economy is good at up to 21 MPG, giving 504 miles of range from the 24 gallon tank. Gas costs are $38 cheaper than average at $235 per month.

Awesome for putting a little mud on the tires.
Amazing truck especially if you ever find yourself off the beaten bath in the gravel or mud. Very sturdy. Super powerful and sounds awesome. Aggressive look. Also, the paint job is a metallic chocolate brown which you wouldn't guess unless the sunlight hits it just right. Otherwise, it looks black.

Best vehicle I have ever bought in my life.
Just one problem with the acceleration, it jumps if not properly warmed up, but other than that I love everything about my Silverado. Especially the seat warmers, when it is winter they keep you so warm and comfortable while driving to work in the cold.

Cali customs Chevy Silverado.
I have a Cali customs lifted truck and I love it. Feel like I own the road at all times. People always stop and watch when I drive by. 2 times today I have had compliments. I would recommend this truck to anyone that is interested in controlling the road.

2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 custom led (black).
This truck is phenomenal, perfect amount of room, gas mileage is great, touch screen radio is amazing. Came in handy moving as well. Has an automatic hill start to keep you from rolling downhill and stop signs and red lights. I love it. I would recommend this truck to anyone looking to buy a Chevy. It is perfect.

No doubt, Chevrolet for the win.
Never had a vehicle so smooth. Especially being a work truck trim. Has a great GPS. Hooks up to your phone with apple carplay or android. And had a large screen. This truck also gets great gas mileage I have been averaging 20 mph going to work everyday. I couldn't ask for anything more out of a midsize truck.

The interior is very comfy and I love the layout of everything in it.
I have had my truck for about a year now and I have grown to love it. There are some minor problems with it like the transmission not working correctly but overall it is a very good truck to own. I use my truck for literally everything to hauling trailers to going on road trips. I get fairly decent gas mileage (18 mpg) which is decent due to being truck. I also like the new design for my truck. 2019 was the year Chevy decided to upgrade the entire truck.

Family & I love it so much!
No problems at all. Have had it since October 2019 and honestly it has truly been a dream to have this vehicle! My family and I have enjoyed it very much. It has plenty of room, awesome navigation settings.. Internet. It is truly one of the best decisions we have ever taken!

Great truck to get DIY projects.
The truck is really great for our lifestyle. We do a lot of DIY projects and the bed of the truck is very handy to holding large pieces of wood, several bags of mulch and tools. We also like how nice the interior feels. The dashboard controls are easy to follow and large. My favorite thing about the car is the remote start. This is great for hot days so that the car is already cooling down by time we get in.

2019 Chevy Silverado. 6000 miles on it. Shifting real hard. Truck is in the garage dead wound start. Lemon no more Chevy for me. To top it off the closest thedealer would take 2 weeks before they could work on the truck. Since the next dealer ship was further I had to pay the difference out of my pocket. Reliable Chevrolet’s refused to pay for it.. I have a 1998 Toyota 4 runner 250,000 miles still runs great. Taking this lemon back and buy a Toyota

Worst vehicle purchase I’ve ever made
My Trailboss is a great looking PU Truck on the outside but internally it’s the worst vehicle I’ve ever purchased. I bought this truck in August 2019 and it’s been in and out of my local Chevy dealer more than I’d like to say. Here’s my list of issues: 2019 LT Trail boss 33k miles I’m on my third transmission hard shift hard braking it’s just terrible. The radio display stops working when it wants to. My tires are getting worn ( alignment is fine I’ve had it checked three times) on the inside of the every other notch GM refuses to cover it even though the vehicle is under warranty. Remote start the vehicle I won’t go into gear and when it does it’s a hard bang from the transmission. Beware of this truck it’s not worth the hassle to have a pretty lawn ornament that cost $40k+

Should have gotten a ford.
Mirrors are awkward.. Not big enough. I do not like the size of the bench seats. I would not recommend to get a dark blue it shows too much dirt. And I have to wash it too often. I like the old model better because I believe it had better features on gas mileage.

Why I will not ever own another Chevy.
Engine has lost power in just over a year, does not drive as smooth as when first bought. The car itself looks nice but just does not drive the same when we first got it off the lot. Interior is not what I ever really wanted. It has the nice touch screen and digital dash but just does not satisfy what I am looking for.

Chevy Silverado is an ok vehicle.
A lot of recalls and electrical problems. Everything else is good very smooth ride no road noise not many extras with this trim but a good price. V8 would be better for more power and towing capabilities. Very sporty aggressive look to it trail boss is more aggressive.

The highlight of my vehicle is definitely the smoothness or the gas mileage.
I love my Chevrolet truck. It rides smooth and gets good gas mileage. The only problem I have with it is it is not a crew cab. I recently had a baby and the double cab I have is not enough room for my baby and people. My truck will for sure be something that with more space in the back seat area.

Solid little truck that'll get the job done.
Not a bad vehicle really, just comes with cheap tires that wear out soon. Like the gas mileage on long trips! More a city truck though than a real work truck. Tow's some hay wagons pretty well but, ultimately gets pushed around by bigger/heavier loads of hay.

Good drive but no parts for repair
My Silverado is officially a lemon based on lemon laws. It looks great and runs great, if you can get parts for it. A bearing went out in one of my belt pullys, and it took almost ten weeks to get a replacement part. Since the duration officially made it a lemon, I was provided multiple loaners and two months of payments were made. However it leaves concerns that why does a car maker not have replacement parts??

What Do Critics Say About the Chevy Silverado 1500?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 series offers great payload and towing capacities with decent owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Silverado at 3.3/5, praising the strong V8 engines, but doesn’t like the cheap base interior materials.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the 2019 Silverado a 4.4/5, enjoying the high towing capacity, but owners don’t like the lack of advanced driver assistance features.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado include the transmission slamming between gears, brake system issues, as well as the door locks unlocking randomly. Overall, these problems are similar to other large trucks from 2019, with similar repair costs, too.

The transmission slamming between gears is the most widespread complaint from Silverado owners at around 20,000 miles. Commonly shifting between first and second gear will be more severe than other gears. There are software updates available for the transmission which improves its performance. Most dealerships will install the updates for free, while some may charge around $100.

Brake system issues, primarily with the electronic brake control module, have also shown up in the first 1,000 miles. The brake booster is electronic in the Silverado and it is a known issue on some models. There’s a recall on the unit and Chevrolet will update the software for free to fix the problem.

The door locks unlocking randomly happen on some Silverado models as well at around 10,000 miles. The body control module has some software issues which result in both the locks and stereo system being buggy. There are software updates which improve the reliability of both the locks and stereo. Nearly all dealerships install the updates for free, while some charge around $50 for this update.

There are 10 recalls on the 2019 Chevy Silverado, which is more than some other trucks on the market. The most serious recalls cover the brake software, as well as the alternator connection. Chevrolet will fix the problems for free on affected models. Other recalls cover the air bags, as well as some spare tire issues.

How Long Will the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 series can last around 250,000 miles, which is slightly less than the long-lasting Toyota Tundra. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other large trucks, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $580 per year.

As a used 2019 Chevy Silverado reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the knock sensor for $200, air pump costing $580, as well as the purge valve which cost $250.

accountCircle Serena C

I have not had any problems with it so far. It tells me when I need any service done like oil, breaks, or any other thing.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is great in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado since it comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Optional upgrades include a larger 8-inch touchscreen with a more powerful stereo system.

Safety technology is good with a standard rearview camera, teen driver mode, as well as rear-seat reminder. Optional advanced safety features include front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, safety alert seat, surround-view parking camera system, along with a head-up display.

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a Good Value?

Yes, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 series is a good value since it offers a lot of technology and a high towing capacity. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $33,082 to $58,474, making it more than a Ram 1500 or a Nissan Titan. When new, the price range was $32,200 to $56,600. Depreciation in current market conditions doesn’t really exist on full size trucks, although in the future it should lose about 7% of its current value per year.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fourth generation of the Chevy Silverado 1500 series was launched in 2019.

2015: Eight-speed automatic transmission offered on models with 6.2L V8.

2016: LED lighting added, improved touchscreen, minor exterior styling changes.

2017: Low-speed automatic emergency braking added, new active grille shutters.

2018: Standard rearview camera and a 7-inch touchscreen on all models.

2019: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new engines, styling, and technology.

2020: Optional adaptive cruise control, 3.0L turbodiesel engine, and camera system.

2021: New tailgate options, improved towing camera, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

How Does the Chevy Silverado 1500 Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a very good truck since it offers a lot of comfort, good technology, and high reliability ratings as it ages

The Ram 1500 is another full size competitor, which is available for around $6,000 less. Interior materials are a bit nicer in the Ram 1500 series, while the Chevy Silverado 1500 has lower ownership costs as it ages. We recommend the Chevy Silverado 1500 series, although both are very good trucks which are worth trying out.

The Ford F-150 is another large truck which can be found for about $1,000 more. The towing capacity is better in the Ford F-150, while the base Chevy Silverado models have a nicer interior. We recommend the Ford F-150 since it’s more affordable to own, yet both trucks are worth taking for a test drive to see which you prefer.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ld review.
The Chevrolet Silverado ld 1500 custom is a very well build and sound truck. There are however a few things I do not like about this truck. The main thing is the speed governor does not allow you to go over 99 mph, you do not need to go over 99 very often but when you need or want to you are disappointed by the trucks motor cutting out. Another thing I do not like about the truck is the interior of the car didn't match color wise, there were grey seats and everything else is black. Other than those two small things this truck is in beatable, it has a lot of power, it is not overly large, there’s a lot of space in the back, and it is very comfortable to ride in and smooth to drive.

2019 Silverado, amazingly quiet ride on a great performing truck.
My 2019 Chevy Silverado is one of the best tricks I have ever had. The ride is incredibly smooth and the cab is very spacious and quiet. Even the custom trim level has a touch screen, back up can, and phone Bluetooth sync. Only downside is the 4.3l v6 is a little light on payload. Other than that, this truck is an amazing value for the price.

I have had my car for a year and a couple months now and I haven't had any problem with it. It is super reliable in any weather conditions as I live in Minnesota with harsh winters I can drive safely with this truck. Very comfortable going on bumps and potholes when I do not see them. Does waste quite a bit of gas that is the only downside I’d say other than that it is the best car I have owned to this day.

Truck is extremely reliable. Driver information display gives the driver many details about vehicles current mechanical status. Truck is extremely comfortable. The most important feature of my truck is its dependability.
My truck has never had any problems in over 10,000 miles. The handling is great, the seats are very comfortable. It has a well lit screen for navigation and communications in the center of the dash, OnStar is available as well as support for iPhone and android devices. I use google maps for navigation because I drive other vehicles for a living, therefore I can take routes I have used previously so connecting my phone to my truck is very important to me. My truck is a 4 cylinder pickup. It gets an average of 22 mph my best mpg was 29. I was hesitant on getting the 4 cylinder but it has really nice get up and go and does a nice job towing our 23 ft boat. I have the crew cab and it is nice and roomy and the nice part is the back seat folds up which is a nice feature when I take my dogs places.

Smooth riding pickup with some small detail oriented nitpicks.
Overall a great truck. I bought the Chevy as it is pretty much the smoothest ride in a 1500 series. Unfortunately low rebound on the soft springs also makes it a bit mushy and bouncy over curb entry bumps etc. Another gripe is the inability to turn off 'auto stop' permanently. It has to be done every time you start the truck. Annoying to me in a big way. Other manufacturers may be the same though. It should be an option to disable this. One other nitpick is on the main cluster, there is a gear indicator (p, r, n, d) and two inches away it is duplicated. Would be nice to be able to replace the one gear indication with something (anything) else. Outside temp, clock etc. Otherwise it has been pretty good in the quality department. 33,000 miles and only the standard (acceptable amount these days) of recalls.

Driving my 4wd Chevy Silverado.
Comfortable sits my 6'5' body. Has more room than most SUVs and sedans. Offers the bonus of having a truck bed when necessary to help with life's chores. V8 power and long wheelbase enhances personal comfort during longer trips. Mileage is very acceptable with close to 20 mpg on freeway driving and 18 mpg on back road journey. The v8 power plant is quite powerful and 4 wheel drive chain is certainly a plus during snowy days. The probability of getting stuck is almost non-existent.

The Chevy Silverado is a good full-size pickup truck. It boasts a best-in-class tow rating of 13,400 pounds, and it offers a tempting lineup of five different powertrains. A new turbo diesel engine delivers a huge boost in torque, helping the Silverado return the best fuel economy numbers in the segment. You can choose among three large bed sizes that provide plenty of space for hauling cargo, and a spacious second row in crew cab models offers ample legroom. The infotainment system is very user-friendly. One knock against the Silverado is that its interior quality does not stack up against well-appointed rivals.

Fantastic truck. Wish I would've bought one years ago.
Great truck! Love it. No problem whatsoever. Great in the snow. The 4x4 and clearance of the truck make it a breeze to get through the most difficult snow storms. Customer service is great with Chevy. Looking to buy another Chevy within the next year because we love the Silverado so much.

Bright red Chevy Silverado Trail boss.
It had been 15 years since we had a new truck- our old truck was a Chevy Silverado as well. This truck has all the technology, great radio, backup camera, interior comfort and get up and go- I feel very safe in it-we even have the smaller back seat for our dogs.

Cali customs Chevy Silverado.
I have a Cali customs lifted truck and I love it. Feel like I own the road at all times. People always stop and watch when I drive by. 2 times today I have had compliments. I would recommend this truck to anyone that is interested in controlling the road.

Good gas mileage for a truck!
Well I believe it is great for towing has a lot of legroom. Has good gas mileage for being a truck. Seats are very comfortable. The ride is smooth, the paint job is beautiful. Large back seats, great for car seats. Very impressed by this vehicle. Just enough tech features for me.

I do love that I lowered it.
Needs new tires and rims. Needs new sound system. Has many good things lots of safety stuff on it and is worthwhile I did lower it making it look like a old school struck. I do like the color it originally had but I am going to get new paint job on it.

Excellent truck, rides smoothly and hauls heavy loads with ease.
My Silverado 1500 is great. It is very comfortable to ride in, easy to drive, tows heavy loads with ease, has terrific payload capacity, has ample room in the crew cab back seat for adults to sit comfortably or to carry supplies. The fold up back seat revealing a flat floor is great for carrying gear that you do not want to put in the bed. Gas mileage is decent for a full sized truck. I haven't had a single complaint about this truck since the day I bought it.

Chevrolet trucks are nice.
It is eroding the back bed and it really should have a custom bed liner. It is brakes go easy and the tires are expensive. The electrical system is going and shuts down. The windows and door locks act up and do not work sometimes. The undercarriage should have been painted and sealed to prevent the rust and salt from the roads to eat away the paint and cab. The undercarriage is rusted and has some smaller holes were the same thing happened. The window wipers do not work well on the timer for the lower setting. It is beautiful color. The performance is good and gets speed to excel.

Climbs anything and hauls on dirt with exceptional control
The truck is superior off-road and has proven itself at high speeds on back country dirt and snow covered roads. Also, I can clean it up, and take my wife out in comfort and style. Without going into details, I originally had a transmission issue but after much delayed parts were available and countless diagnostics completed, I haven't had a problem with the transmission. My only complaint is that if you have any open liquids in the cab while driving the suspension can whip your a*s into another cab cleaning event.

Heated mirrors for the winter. Comfortable for outdoor adventures.
So far I have had no problems with my vehicle. It is been very reliable and comfortable. I enjoy being able to fit my growing family of 5. Amazing for out outdoor adventures. I have really enjoyed the heated mirrors in the winter. It warms up very quickly.

Chevy Silverado is a great family vehicle for those who do not want a van.
This car has been great since I purchased it new. The interior is condo and spacious, though the cloth interior is a little scratchy. The vehicle feels very safe, though occasional on wavy or bumpy roads, the ride can bounce a little. My two child car seats fit with plenty of room to spare, and the size of the bed has been helpful with family needs. I have only had routine maintenance done, so the vehicle seems to be holding up. I would definitely recommend this truck.

It's a great vehicle to own. The auto stop can be annoying but it's great overall.
I like it alot the only problem I've had with it is that the 8 speed transmission is a little clunky it likes to shift into second hard. Dealership did a update but didn't really fix the issue. Other than that it's a great truck. It's good on fuel mileage for a v8 and doesn't feel cheap the ride is superb.

Perfect all around truck for anyone.
This vehicle is very spacious and comfortably fits a family. The camera quality is outstanding and easy to use and understand. The truck handles well in winter if you are in snowy states, and does well on rough roads. Whether you are looking for a work truck, family truck, or leisure truck this falls into each of those categories.

My Chevrolet experience in a nutshell.
The Chevrolet is a great truck, it drives well. Smooth handling and nice features. The only issues I have had is oil changes are a pain due to the cost of the synthetic oil and specific filter and the stock tires that came on it didn’t last long either. The more luxurious features are a god send. I love the seat warmers and the Bluetooth link options.

Shocked by Chevy's new trucks.
Since buying my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado I can't say one bad thing about it. Its comfortable, reliable, convenient, and looks great. Drives smooth and suspension is very well balanced. The stereo is loud and clear and the dash has a very cool spaceship look and feel to it. Climate control is top notch and vision is not hindered or blocked by any or the rest of the truck. Overall I am beyond satisfied with Chevy and the performance of the 2019 Chevy Silverado lt crew cab.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado new design.
Most comfortable four wheel drive vehicle I have ever owned. Extremely quiet ride, great fuel mileage. The OnStar feature on the Chevrolet vehicle is valuable asset as well. The cab is extra roomy for the crew cab. The design of the 2019 Silverado is very pleasing also.

My view of my Silverado 2019.
The only problem I have with my truck is my rear view camera. It twitches and they do not have a recall for it. Besides the camera, it runs smooth and very spacious. The storage area can be a little bigger. The performance is amazing. I have 1500 miles and still runs smoothly. Wouldn't change it for nothing.

Silverado problems. Should have stayed with 2005 suburban.
Vehicle has a vibration problem that seven trips to two different dealers cannot figure out. They tell me that it is normal? The first blame was on the transmission and then the (dfm)- dynamic fuel management system. Will not let me talk to a factory representative. Other than that, it drives nice and tows well. I do miss a CD player that is not offered.

This truck is a great family car.
Great family car! We really needed enough room for two car seats and another person and there is more than enough room in the backseat! This is definitely a car to drive until it falls apart. Decent gas mileage, smooth on highways, overall fantastic truck!
accountCircle Heather D on January 20, 2021
I love the fact that the truck has great gas mileage.
As a mom, I need a vehicle with lots of space and given that this is a truck I couldn't believe the amount of space that was in the truck. My favorite feature though has to be the push start button on the key fob. I live in Florida and in the summer it gets unbearably hot and humid. It is great knowing that I can start the truck and have the air running while I am walking to it. I do not have to worry about being hit with a cloud of heat when I open the door to put my child in. I was quite disappointed though in all the recalls that have been associated with the truck. It seemed like it was one after another as soon as we drove it off the lot including having a completely brand new transmission put in it.

Features you never knew you always needed!
Love everything about my pickup including the spacious cab with lots of room for up to 6 people. The bed has additional hooks that make strapping down anything you need to haul super convenient. The bed also has automatic lights so you can load and unload in the dark. Also the step to get into the bed is great for those of us with short legs. The lightweight tailgate is really nice as well.

2019 Chevy Silverado, so far so good.
Like the truck overall. I have had some problems like a leak from the rear window that allows water to get into the cab. The interior is nice but the drivers seer is not very comfortable due to sensors in the seat that you can feel all the time. The truck drives great but the engine does not sound great. The engine seems to have a lot of rattle and other unpleasant noises. The truck has plenty of power but fuel economy is less than expected. I have only had the truck for 7000 miles so reliability is yet to be an issue.

2019 Silverado leader of the pack.
I purchased a 2019 Silverado brand new off the lot. It is a great vehicle with everything I was looking for from apple car play to space for my dogs to sit in the back. One thing that I noticed right away with the truck though is the infotainment screen likes to freeze and your volume knob would not work anymore. To fix this issue you had to shut off your truck for 5 minutes which became really annoying. Another issue was at around 2000 miles the transmission started slipping and shifting aggressively. Other than that the truck is great and I would purchase again.
accountCircle Kirsten P on January 11, 2021
Unimpressed with the quality of my truck.
There are issues with the vehicles transmission. The pulling capabilities leave much to be desired in comparison to my old ford f150. I have noticed that the windshield wiper fluid goes very quickly due to the amount that is used from the sprayers. The power to start from a stopped position is not there due to the v4 switch that happens when vehicle is in a lower gear. The truck also is not great in the snow and ice compared to other 4x4 vehicles I have owned.
accountCircle Brittany S on January 9, 2021
Vehicle is well rounded. Has plenty of space within the cab as well as the bed.
This is a great vehicle. Many safety features including the sensors. The truck pulls a trailer well and has not had any problems. The only thing there has been any trouble with is that every now and then there are issues connecting to Bluetooth, however, this is very rare and understandable.

I love the center console/cup holder piece. It adds a luxury feel to my truck.
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 rst is a great truck. It is very comfortable, and drives really well. In the 8 thousand miles I have driven it, nothing has gone wrong, so hopefully it stays as reliable as it has been so far but I bet it will. Overall great vehicle.
