Mar 30, 2023

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lasts around 250,000 miles with some average check engine light and transmission issues reported. At $29,998 to $57,000, it’s a decent value for a large truck with great towing and hauling capabilities.

likeFilled The Good
There are very powerful V8 engine choices available, passenger room is fantastic and the off-road performance is good.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The suspension is rough at highway speeds, the large center stack in the dash takes up a lot of space and the buttons look outdated.

2020 Silverado custom trail boss.
Not a lot of inside storage space. But other than that it is a great pick up. Handles very nicely, the off-road tires are not loud. Gets about 17 mpg which is not great but could be worse. 4 wheel drive is still jerky on sharp turns so gm still cannot fix that. Overall a very good truck.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado lt 2.7l turbo.
I love the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado with the 2.7l turbo. Runs really well, has plenty of power and speed. I pulled a couple thousand pounds no problem for 9 hours. Really good on gas for being a full size truck. Interior is really nice and plenty of room in the back seat.

Chevy Silverado Trail boss 2020.
Comfortable, durable, powerful. Good in muddy and snowy conditions. Good to take in the mountains off roading and for camping. Big enough for my family of three and three large dogs. Enough space to haul materials and junk. Love the interior space and custom lift. Wish it had a better sound system, better suspension for trail use.

2020 diesel 1500 Chevrolet.
Check engine light came on after I bought it, might be a bad wire, power and performance is great though. Love the interior that Chevy offers even on their low end models, has spray in bed liner which is great. And sprayed underlined to keep the rust off. All around a great diesel truck.

The leather seats are really smooth and good looking and easy to clean.
The Silverado is one of the best trucks out there you can't get any better the truck is reliable and can take a load and handle it like a man. The interior is soft smooth leather and is optional between leather or cotton I chose leather because it looks amazing now y'all have a fine and dandy day.

My favorite vehicle that I drive everyday is my Chevrolet Silverado.
I love the capability having tow for my boat and the cab is roomy also great on fuel. I feel like I can drive this car for family trips as well as working. There is no job this truck cannot handle. I really like this truck and I have never owned a pickup truck.

Great fuel efficient truck!
I have had 3 Silverados and I am a fan of this version. Have read other reviews where people like the truck but do not like the exterior design. Well, I guess I am in the mini camp, because I love this new style. Lines look like a bit of a throwback to the 60’s and I find the front end elegantly aggressive. I like the interior that combines a basic practicality with high tech features. The 2020 feels a bit bigger and the fuel efficiency is improved. I have the 5.3l which is powerful and smooth. Lots of added storage inside and even features remote start, auto tailgate open, good exterior bed lighting and LEDs. I like all the American trucks and have been a Chevy Silverado fan for years. I like this 2020.

I love this truck, it has a smooth ride, quiet on the inside nice carpet type seats, I wish it would have came with steps to get into the truck but it has Bluetooth, and can connect your phone to the vehicle to see contacts and talk-text while driving.

Very disappointed with chevy. I bought a brand new truck so I could havea reliable vehicle. Barely one year old and my truck won't start. The steering wheel locked up and ignition won't turn. Passenger Bucket Seat
Brought home a loaded up $60,000 Trailboss LT. Wife got in and found out there isn't a power seat on the passenger side, only the driver side has one. Whats worse is the manual seat doesn't adjust up and down and is locked in a poor position. She is 5'-1", can't see the hood and feels like she is sitting in a hole. First vehicle I ever had with this problem, I am very disappointed in Chevy. I knew going in that the interior was below industry standards but I never assumed they would cheapen the passenger power seat right out of the truck. I got the bucket seat option, I got the leather option, I got the heated seat option, one would assume it is power also, d***y me. If Chevy doesn't come to the table and install a power seat, this obviously will be my last Chevy. If not then d***y Chevy.

I would not recommend a Chevy Silverado. I have a 2021, 10 hrs on it, and its in shop. They have to drop the fuel tank to fix a evap leak, from the factory really on a brand new truck they can keep it no quality control buy it then will fix it no way stay away from g.m

What Do Critics Say About the Chevy Silverado?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 series offers excellent power for a large truck with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the 2020 Silverado a 3.4/5, praising the excellent passenger room in the four-door model, but doesn’t like the rough suspension.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Silverado at 3.9/5, enjoying all the available engine choices, but owners don’t like the smaller touchscreen.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado include check engine lights, difficulty changing gears, along with some brake assist warning lights on the dash. Overall, these problems are similar to some other large trucks on the market, leading to average repair costs as the Silverado ages.

Check engine lights are the most widespread complaint from 2020 Silverado 1500 series owners in the first 20,000 miles. Usually, a check engine light will turn on when there is a problem with one of the sensors on the engine or exhaust. To diagnose the source of the problem you will need to use an OBD-II scan tool. Once you know the issue, you can replace the damaged parts, which can cost $20 to $400.

Difficulty changing gears is another issue found on the 2020 Silverado in the first 2,000 miles. The transmission control module learns how an individual drives to improve shifting performance over time. Usually the transmission just starts to change gears better as the truck gets more miles on it. In other cases you may need to have the control module reset, which costs around $150. There are also some very rare reports of transmission failures, which are usually covered under warranty.

Brake assist warning lights on the dash also show up on some Silverado models at around 2,500 miles. The problem is usually caused by a dirty or damaged front brake assist sensor. Cleaning off the sensor fixes the issue in some trucks, while others need a new sensor which costs about $700 if it’s not under warranty.

There are ten recalls on the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 series, which is more than some other trucks on the market. The most serious recall is on the alternator connectors, which may cause the alternator to overheat. Chevy will replace the connection on the alternator to fix the issue. Other recalls cover the brake calipers, seat belts, along with the tires.

How Long Will the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 series can last around 250,000 miles, which is around 50,000 miles less than the long-lasting Toyota Tundra. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other large trucks according to data provided by Repair Pal at $670 per year.

As a used 2020 Silverado reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the oil pan costing $650, muffler costing $755, along with the radiator fan motor which costs $1,000.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is very good with a standard 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Optional upgrades include a larger 8-inch touchscreen and a more powerful stereo system.

Standard safety technology is basic only, including a rearview camera and rear-seat reminder.

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Rearview mirror with integrated camera display
  • Lane departure warning with lane keep assist
  • Forward automatic emergency braking
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Safety alert seat which vibrates
  • Surround-view parking camera system
  • Blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert
  • Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Head-up display

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Series is a good value since it’s cheaper than many other full size trucks with great towing capabilities. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $29,998 to $57,000, making it less than a Ford F-150 or Toyota Tundra. When new, the price range was $28,500 to $57,100. Depreciation in current market conditions is nearly nonexistent, although in normal times we expect it to lose about 5% of its current value per year.

The higher trim levels, such as the LTZ and High Country, come with premium materials, including leather upholstery and heated and ventilated front seats, adding to overall comfort.

Furthermore, the Silverado provides a smooth and composed ride, thanks to its well-tuned suspension system. Its cabin is well-insulated, effectively minimizing road and wind noise. What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fourth generation of the Chevy Silverado 1500 series came out in 2019.

2015: New eight-speed automatic transmission on all models with the 6.2L V8.

2016: Improved touchscreen, minor exterior styling changes, along with LED lights added.

2017: Low-speed automatic emergency braking added, new active grille shutters.

2018: Standard rearview camera and 7-inch touchscreen across the entire lineup.

2019: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new styling, engines, and technology.

2020: 3.0L Turbodiesel engine offered, optional adaptive cruise control, new camera system.

2021: New tailgate offered, upgraded towing camera, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

How Does the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Chevy Silverado is a very nice truck since it offers strong engines, decent reliability ratings, along with technology improvements from earlier years.

The Ford F-150 is another full size truck which costs about $1,500 more. Reliability ratings are slightly better on the Ford F-150, while the Chevy Silverado has a nicer interior for the money with less cheap plastic. We recommend the Ford F-150, although both are good trucks worth test driving to see which brand you prefer.

The Toyota Tundra is a competitor available for around $2,500 more. Ownership costs are much lower on the Toyota Tundra compared to all other large trucks, while the Chevy Silverado does have more safety technology available. We recommend the Toyota Tundra since it’s one of the longest lasting full size trucks, but both are decent choices for 2020.

I only have 2,600 miles on my 2020Silverado, and the back up camera has jumped into a Fish Eye view that makes it useless. The dealer tries to tell me ''that's normal''. I made an appointment to get it fixed, and the advisor said ''we can fix that''. Then when I took it in, they had Fired the Advisor and told me ''there is nothing wrong with it''. Getting a warranty problem fixed at Chevrolet is nearly impossible.

I really enjoy with my vehicle.
The only thing I have noticed I have to replace headlights bulbs often they burn out quickly. When I replaced the bulbs it started sizzling as soon as I plugged it in. Outside of that I really happy with my car and how it handles on the road and daily tasks.

2020 truck review of Chevy Silverado.
The Silverado is a very comfortable, roomy truck that provides plenty of room for family to travel around. It is very durable and dependable as it pulled a 36 foot camper to the beach and back with no problems. We had no issues climbing hills and maneuvering around other vehicles as we traveled. Only problem with this 2020 custom truck is no auto starter on key chain.

2.7
In the mornings you have to start your engine for 3-5 minutes as the oil pressure is high, it has to come down. Once the oil pressure gets down to 20-25psi you will be able to smoothly take off. But yes, if you jump in your truck, start it up and take off it will be very jerky.

My 2020 Chevy is amazing. Blacked out trim against Cajun red!
I have owned my 2020 Chevy Silverado Trail boss for a little over a month now. It has excellent horsepower and has reasonably decent fuel mileage. The crew cab offers comfort and space for passengers. The storage under the back seats is a great feature. The electric tailgate works great but needs a little assist to open after I had my tonneau cover installed. I like the 12 volt plug in the bed. Handy for different situations. The overall look of the truck is rugged. The suspension on the truck makes for an excellent ride.

Very nice driving and looking truck.
Drives smoothly, always reliable in badlands or high places, very spacious, the truck turns off automatically at long stops which helps gas but delays drive off but it's a very luxurious looking truck, it's easy to clean and keep neat and the seats are very comfortable to sit in for long periods of time if you travel anywhere.

Over great ride! Update/fix miles to e notification.
Overall enjoyable ride, especially for a truck! My only complaint is the notification for needing fuel. Once it gets before 40 miles, it just says need fuel and does not say how many miles I need to empty. My vehicles in the past would show all the way how many miles to e. That is my only complaint though. Really love and enjoy the truck.

Hi is suffering for his back .
Very disappointed. Power steering affect my fiancé back trying to take control of the car.

Silverado is great overall.
Uses a lot of gas. The automatic shut off system is very annoying and there should be a way to turn it off completely. It would be nice if the foot pedals would adjust like in the older models. It is not very short people friendly but it is a good truck overall.

2020 Chevy Silverado custom 2.7 Turbo
Truck truck drives great I have about five thousand miles on it I have two recalls on my first oil change which they updated but now there's another concern taking off in the mornings I have a jerk in the transmission and sometimes it shatters when it shifts so we have an appointment next week you'll keep an eye on your trucks with these Transmissions when taking off in the morning that's the only negative thing

It is the perfect family sized truck. It feels luxury and spacious inside.
I love it! It is very roomy, it does not eat up the gas fast, it is beautiful.. The only downfall is the custom does not have a middle counsel. It has a seat but if you put the seat down, it is a middle where you can rest your arm and put items on top of it (not inside). Otherwise, I absolutely love my truck!

Absolutely love my truck!
Absolutely love this truck! It has lots of features that make driving easier and I feel so safe due to all the safety features. The mychevrolet app is very helpful with learning the technology of this truck! It is very roomy and has many storage areas. I would definitely recommend this truck to anyone!

Love the safety package!!
Love this vehicle. Rides nicely, spacious, wonderful entertainment qualities. The best part is the safety package. Rear view camera and sensor. Also has a front sensor. I also love that the back comes down with the key fab. Easy to install the garage door opener. I love that it has apple play.

Very roomy and reliable! Highly recommend.
The truck my family currently has is nothing but amazing. We love everything about the truck. It is very comfortable and most of all it is very reliable. Never had any issues with it. There is a lot of room so you do not feel like your elbow and elbow. I highly recommend this truck to anyone who may possibly be considering purchasing one in the near future.

Chevy Silverado 2020 with apple carplay review camera and lots more.
I love my truck it has apple carplay and is also suitable for android. I can use my navigation on my radio as well as my Spotify, I can control all of these things thru my radio. I also can use talk to text through the apple carplay and it also has hands free calling. It also has review camera. The ride is smooth and comfortable. It has an automatic tailgate that has a button on the key fob and inside the truck. The tailgate also locks when you lock the truck. The bed of the truck has lights in all four corners and a third eye light. You can engage the blinker for turning a corner or just slightly push it to switch lanes. The truck also came with OnStar and Sirius radio. It also came with a free 3 year anti theft system, after the 3 years you can pay $30 a month to keep. These are just some of the features this truck has.

Silverado custom trail boss: great price and great package.
My vehicle is great. The stereo sometimes cuts out and has latency when playing music. It has very good gas mileage. It drives very smoothly and the cruise control feature is extremely useful when driving long distances. If I could change one thing about my truck, it would be the interior features.

Only had it a couple weeks. Features are awesome. Love the blue color. Lights in the bed are great when unloading at night. Backup camera and sensors are Perfect. Blind spot mirrors are a lifesaver. Double cab has enough room for the kiddos. Apple play makes navigation a breeze.
