The 2020 Chevrolet Traverse lasts around 250,000 miles with minor brake noise and stereo system issues reported. At $25,999 to $46,350, it’s a great value for a large three-row SUV with enough room for a big family.

There’s a ton of passenger room, the stereo system has a lot of great features and it has a lot of modern safety technology available.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The suspension has a loose feeling, the steering is lighter than other SUVs and some dash materials feel cheap.

Large family car filled with safety features.
I love my new traverse. It has an amazing back up camera, it helps me stay in my lane, and it warns me when a car is in my blind spots. I have a heated steering wheel too which is nice in the winter. One of the best parts is the space in the back. My kids have so much leg room that they almost cannot touch the front seats with their feet. It is a great family care with a lot of safety features.

The color is amazing, black cherry metallic.
I love the way my vehicle performs on the road. It has certain qualities that allows me to connect my phone on the road wherever I go. It is a very quiet car so when I am inside of it I can hardly hear the outside noise. The cat is very comfortable for long roads. I have already taken it to multiple journeys along with my family.

For town or travel driving, cannot beat the Chevy traverse!
Love the 2020 Chevy traverse, plenty of room and really smooth ride! Has a lot of power for larger size SUV, and the dark maroon color is really sharp. Bigger tires look great and help with stability in steering. Only option I do not really like is ecoboost idle down when stopped.

Good size SUV. It gets decent gas mileage, and provides a very cushioned ride.
The Chevrolet traverse is a good midsize SUV. It has a capable v6 engine, gets decent gas mileage, and provides a cushioned ride, even over rough roads. Few SUVs in any class have as much cargo space, and the traverse can accommodate adults in all three rows. The infotainment tech is user-friendly as well.

Honest Chevy vehicle owner.
I love it so far had it 2 months, incredible driving and safety features. Very smooth ride. And I love the captain seats as the second row. Also love all the extra technology that actually does make life easier with full hands. Not exactly fuel efficient I am not sure it gets the 29 mpg.

The Chevrolet traverse has Bluetooth and can be managed from your phone.
This vehicle came with rear fold down seats. I also received free OnStar for a month, and free data for 2 weeks. The vehicle came with charcoal leather seats, and seats up to 7 people. You can adjust how high the tailgate opens with a knob on the drivers door. It comes with power seats and windows. It has sensors to locate vehicles in your blind spot and let’s you know by a warning signal in the mirror. For example if a vehicle comes on your left side a light in the left mirror will come on to warn you. The car has a feature to turn the vehicle off when stop to save gas. It has 18 in all weather tires. It comes with auto start and push to start while inside. You can push the button on the door to unlock and lock the vehicle as long as you have the keys. It has a great Chevrolet app that lets you control your vehicle. You can ensure your vehicle is lock or unlocked with your phone. You can also start and stop the vehicle with your phone. The app also lets you keep track of the status of the vehicle. You can check the tire pressure, maintenance that is due, and any faults on your vehicle from your phone. The vehicle is 2 wheel drive. The color is green with chrome rims. The vehicle has a touch screen in the console instead of knobs. It came with Bluetooth and has a CarPlay future which can display your phone and navigation it needed.

Love my traverse. Best purchase for 2020.
I love the space this vehicle has. It is a smooth ride and I feel very safe in it with my four children. We have already taken a road trip and it was nice and comfy! It is also great on gas! I highly recommend this vehicle for a large family! You get all you need for the price!

The vehicle has amazing comfort to style ratio.
I really like how the vehicle is able to move through the snow in the winter time and not have difficulties with the conditions. The car is sleek and looks amazing as it is perfect size with the length and width being just right. The vehicles inside looks just as good as the outside with plenty of charging places for your phones and heated seats for the winter time.

Reliability
Overall ok vehicle, good traveler its taken us all over the U.S. From the west coast, midwest, east and south it has performed well accept once it hit 50,000 miles I have had to use my 100,000 mile extended warranty through Gm extensively as I have had serious issues with the shifter which has had to be replaced three times and has also had several sensor issues. The warranty was accepted everywhere we have been. The shifter issue prevented me from shifting into park once I reached my destination. I guess as the saying goes don't buy the first year of a vehicle release. I have learned my lessen.

I love the features, but could use some technical help.
I love my car for the most part, but there are 2 problems that bother me. The garage door buttons only work when my car is facing the door. When I put my car into reverse it takes much longer than average to register it is in reverse and just keeps rolling for a bit.

Reliable. Nice body style. Pretty color. Very safe to drive.
I do not like the new android auto feature. I hate having to always have my phone plugged in. I do not like the LCD display screen. I feel like I have to take my eyes off of the road too often and for too long. I do like the heated steering wheel. I also like the dashboard display.

The safety is the best with all safe features.
It is a great car with a lot of room and the gas is the on my problem. I wish it would go father in less gas but besides that all the rest of the car is great. The safety is amazing. And the steering is awesome. The color is also great we got white with black interior.

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse is a practical alternative to other large SUVs like the Suburban, with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Traverse at 4.2/5, enjoying the features in the infotainment system, but doesn’t like the cheap plastic interior panels.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Traverse a 4.3/5, praising the comfortable seats in all three rows, but owners don’t like the lack of standard safety features.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse include excessive brake noise, the stereo system freezing, along with the transmission changing gears slowly. Overall, these problems are similar to other full size SUVs, leading to average repair costs as a Traverse ages.

Excessive brake noise is the most widespread complaint from 2020 Chevy Traverse owners in the first 15,000 miles. If you are using your traverse to tow or haul a lot of weight then the front brake pads will wear out quicker than normal. Replacing the brake pads costs about $80 per wheel, while rotors are an additional $150 per wheel.

The stereo system freezing is another issue reported by 2020 Traverse owners in the first 1,000 miles. There are software updates available for the system which improves its reliability. Most dealerships will install the latest software updates for free, while some charge around $50.

The transmission changing gears slowly also shows up on some Traverse models at around 3,000 miles. There are updates to the transmission control module as well, which improves responsiveness. Nearly all dealerships will install the transmission updates for free, while others charge roughly $100.

There are eight recalls on the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse, which is worse than many other SUVs from the same year. The most serious recall is for a transmission fluid leak which can cause damage to the transmission. Other recalls cover the tires, along with damage to the roof rails.

How Long Will the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Chevrolet Traverse can last around 250,000 miles, which is around 50,000 miles less than the long-lasting Toyota Sequoia. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other large SUVs, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $603 per year.

As a used 2020 Chevy Traverse reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the alternator for $600, a power steering pump costing $650, along with the steering knuckle which costs $400.

accountCircle Melissa R

I have had the traverse for one month have not had any issues. I purchased the vehicle because of its reliability ratings.

accountCircle Heather P

Yes very reliable. So far no issues. Remote starts in cold temps. Auto shut off works as it should. Love the heated steering and seats for the cold MN winters.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is very good for a large SUV with a standard 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Optional upgrades include a larger touchscreen along with a more powerful stereo system.

Standard safety technology is basic, only offering a rearview camera and teen driver mode.

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane keep assist
  • Rear camera mirror
  • Forward automatic emergency braking
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Surround-view parking camera system

What Colors Does the Chevy Traverse Come In?

The Chevy Traverse is a large SUV that offers a comfortable ride for both the driver and passengers with enough room for up to eight people. The cabin is spacious and roomy, with plenty of legroom and headroom in all three rows. The seats are well-cushioned and supportive, making long trips comfortable and enjoyable.

The Traverse also features a smooth and quiet ride, thanks to its well-tuned suspension system and sound insulation. The SUV’s interior is well-designed and features high-quality materials that give it a premium feel. What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Chevy Traverse was launched for the 2018 model year.

2015: Siri Eyes-Free added to all models.

2016: 4G LTE WiFi hotspot added, new base LS model introduced.

2017: Premier model introduced which replaces the LTZ model.

2018: Fully redesigned for the second generation with new styling, engines, and technology features.

How Does the Chevy Traverse Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Chevrolet Traverse is a very good large SUV offering better comfort than many of the truck-based competitors on the market while still having plenty of passenger room in all three-rows of seating.

The Ford Explorer is another large SUV which is available for about $2,000 more. Performance is slightly better in the Ford Explorer with its stronger engines, while the Chevy Traverse has more passenger room. We recommend the Chevy Traverse since it’s a little more practical for the money, although both are good choices for the 2020 model year.

The Chevy Tahoe is a competitor which costs around $10,000 more. Off-road performance and towing capacity are better in the Chevy Tahoe, while the Chevy Traverse is smoother on city streets. We recommend the Chevy Traverse since it’s so much cheaper, although both are very nice large SUVs.

Great family SUV without the price of a luxury SUV.
Performance is great but does lack basic features such as navigation. Very comfortable and plenty of space for a big family. Most of the features are through a paid subscription through OnStar which is not preferred. Does great on gas and is very reliable.

The 2020 Chevy traverse is a perfect family car!
I love my new Chevy traverse rs model. The interior is beautiful and I love all the technology upgrades. It's a perfect size for my family of 5 (my husband and I have 3 boys). The car drives so nicely and feels like a luxury vehicle. The extra safety add ons (I.E. Forward collision control, lane assistance, birds eye camera) make driving much safer.

Graphite Chevy traverse review.
I love the traverse! It is the best car I have owned. It is extremely spacious and comfortable. It is great for long trips which I have made and not bad with gas mileage. The third row folds down to offer more room for luggage or groceries. There are multiple USB ports for charging needs. The price is affordable and worth the purchase.

Great car for big families.
Not only is it a super nice looking car on the inside and outside, it is very functional. We have three kids in car seats, and tons of stuff to tote on a regular basis, this car gives us so much storage space. I love the double trunk feature and, all the space in the back seat. I enjoy all the safety features the car has and I love my double sunroofs (even though only one of them opens). The car also is pretty nice on gas, overall I have been super happy with this purchase.

This is a great car. It is very roomy, good fuel efficiency and looks great! I love the third row and then bench seat in the middle. This is my third traverse and this model is my favorite by far. I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone who is looking for a great SUV that has lots of room and great performance.

Highlights to the traverse.
Love the extra trunk space compared to my previous explorer. The traverse back up camera is its only downfall (I have found so far). I find it to be out of proportion and not the most accurate for backing up. One feature I love is if the car temperature gauge reads the outside temperature is less than 45 degrees it automatically turns on the heated steering wheel. Another bonus in this SUV is the storage space. There is a compartment in the trunk below the floor for things you want to keep regularly in the car for emergencies. I also found a great amount of space in the front end for the driver. In addition, the cup holders for the rear captains chairs are on the door which is nicer for access, and remembering to remove beverages from the car as you exit.

Traverse- best bang for your buck!
I absolutely love every single aspect of my traverse! As a mom of two, the extra space and durability makes this vehicle a “no brainer” for me. The extra space allows me to carry car seats, strollers, and luggage in the back with no issues. The sporty look of this vehicle takes the “mom car” out of it- and suddenly makes you the cool mom that everyone wants to ride with. Overall, I could not have picked a better vehicle if I tried. Not only is it extremely affordable in price, in comparison to the other competitors, it is also the vehicle that has more “bang for your buck.” I am so happy with my decision and I do not believe I will own any other vehicle besides a traverse in the future.

Beefy and strong truck, would recommend.
I don't have any. It's a new truck so it hasn't had any issues yet. The only thing that has bothered me is the smell at the start. It smelt terrible for the first week. It smells like something died. The other issue was the tires it came with. I had to get new tires because the traction wasn't good enough for what I needed to do.

Good starter large SUV just under a Tahoe.
Want a higher level trim. Cloth is not what I want now and want the option of cooled seats. Power lumber would be nice. Larger info system. Bigger engine. Tinted windows. The size of the vehicle is smaller than ideal. The newer traverse seems bigger but might want the Tahoe for additional size.

Great family car with lots of safety features.
We purchased a 2020 traverse rs. The multiple safety features are great for a family. It consists of multiple cameras around the vehicle. The cameras ensure you maintain your lane, maintain space from vehicle in front you, and help you park safely. The rear view mirror can also be changed to live camera or the standard mirror. It has plenty of legroom in the 2nd row. The bottom cargo area is large enough to hold multiple bags. With the 3rd row down you have more than ample storage for long car rides. Great overall vehicle!

Nice truck space and easy to put the seats down to bring the dogs along too! We have plenty of trunk room for groceries and luggage when we go on a trip! The heated steering wheel has been a great added bonus. It has a remote starter that is great in the cold months. I can start my car from the house and have everything warmed and ready to go. When I get in, the steering wheel is warm as well as my heated seat. It only takes a minute to heat my traverse right up! I have not had any problems with my traverse. I went from a Chevrolet Tahoe to the traverse. I wanted to stay with a 3rd row for a cheaper payment. I have the blackout package. I love the black rims and black logos. I was disappointed however that the trim around the windows does not come in black in the blackout package. It is in chrome which looks weird when everything else is in black. Overall, this is a great SUV with plenty of space for my whole family!

Sporty SUV perfect for families.
I love my traverse! The third row gives me the extra seating needed for our family (with plenty of legroom and easy access). There are USB ports for each seat. Wi-Fi is available so my kiddos can use their tablets in the car during trips. I have the ability to switch from 4 to 2wd to save on gas. I love the android auto option. Overall I'd totally recommend this vehicle to others!

I love it, it is truly perfect for our family!
It is truly so comfortable. I drive a ton and I love the way it handles, fits my 2 kids and all of their things. The extra storage is amazing and the 3rd row seats are so easy to move. The heated and cooled seats are perfect for the variable Wisconsin temps!!

Spacious and comfortable, but not pleased with android auto.
Overall, this car is wonderful. It is comfortable while driving on long trips. The trunk is larger than you'd expect and has so much storage space even without folding seats down. My only con with this car is android auto. There are so many issues trying to connect my phone to the car.

The amount of space is great. So much room and even hidden storage areas.
I have had my traverse for a year now and have zero complaints. We love the captains chairs for easy access of getting in and out from the back seat. There is plenty of room in the back even when the third row seats are up. It drives great and have really enjoyed everything about it.

Cannot believe how clear the backup camera comes in.
This has been a great vehicle and the safety features are top notch. The backup camera is so clear and very hd. I have enjoyed every moment in this vehicle and love it. I have nothing but excellent things to say about this vehicle and will likely be a traverse owner for life.

3 row seating. All family car.
My car is amazing. It has nice safety features, my favorite being the 'rear seat reminder'. Everytime you turn off your car it reminds you if you left the key inside. I also love the 3 row seating. Our family is growing and it absolutely comes in need. The best part of my experience is the connectivity.

It is great on gas. There’s a lot of space.
It rides super smooth. It is a great family trip vehicle. Super spacious. The lt trim just about has all the luxury you can ask for - heated seats, captain seats, third row seating. It has a powered lift gate which is just perfect. It has just about anything and everything you can think of.

Heated steering wheel is my favorite highlight.
I recently purchased the 2020 traverse and am very happy with my purchase. The seats are comfortable and spacious. I enjoy how much room there is in the vehicle especially with the three rows of seating. The technology has been updated which is another plus.

Perfect car Chevy traverse 2020.
I love this car. Perfect for my family of 4. I love how much room we have. The seats can go down providing extra trunk space and my kids have plenty of room for their feet in the back. The apple play is probably the best part of this car. You can just plug your phone in and it mirrors all of your apps.

There is a lot of great features and it is a smooth drive, truly an amazing car.
The car is very luxurious with heated seats, automatic trunk opener, plenty of space, media control tablet, and a backup cam. This is truly the car of the good life. The car has other features to prevent theft, and is a great car to safely travel anywhere.

Plenty of room Chevrolet traverse.
I love my Chevrolet traverse so much. It is a very reliable car that we got after we had our first son. We got it to have more room in our car since we now have a baby. This car provides plenty of space for all the things we need for our baby. The technology in the car is advanced as it provides apple carplay and a navigation system built in.

I love that it is safety features are 5s.
I have had my car for over a month now and I have no complaints. My edition does not have power opening for the back but really that is the only bummer. It is super roomy and the cloth seats are quality material. Having climate control in the middle and back seats is essential because my son runs hot and being in a confined car seat does not help. Knowing he can get lower temps with a high air flow is so important to me.

Excellent handling, great on gas, and very easygoing.
My Chevrolet traverse is an excellent car. I would recommend it to anyone. Perfect is you have a family. It is also great when it comes to gas economically. The handling is excellent, as well as the breaks. Very easygoing. The brakes are excellent. Very powerful.
